  1. Today is my 2 month mark. I lost a total of 59 lbs. 21 pre-surgery and 38 post-surgery. I am still having trouble eating some foods and find I can't get more than 4 or 5 bites of anything in. I feel I am losing at a steady rate even though most times it feels slow.

    How is everyone doing?

Awesome. Keep up the good work. I had my surgery July 11th and have lost 36 pounds and a total of 85 since February. I never thought I could get down to the size I am now. I was able to eat anything I wanted two weeks after surgery but I have been craving soft drinks which I need to quit, I would do better at losing weight if I did. Good luck.

  2. Hello' date=' my name is Melissa. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on July 31, 2013. I started out at 425.. my current weight is 365. I have been able to incorporate different foods. I have no appetite and have to remind myself to eat. I worry if I am doing it. I would like to find a buddy or mentor because a lot of times I am ny myself on this journey.[/quote']

Good job on the weight loss.

  3. Hello' date=' y'all! I am slated for the sleeve on Oct. 9th. I am nervous. Any advice?[/quote']

I had the surgery on July 11th. I am doing great and can eat what ever I want now just not as much. I have lost 33 pounds since the surgery and would have been more if I would eat the right thing. I am very happy with the surgery, weight loss and everything. I went on my pre diet in the middle of February and have lost 82 pounds since February. Please diet some before the surgery and it will help out a great deal during surgery. There was a women who did not go on the diet before surgery that was operated that morning before me and it caused complications and it put my operation back for 5 hours. I went home the next day and have been taken off all my meds except one, I was on 13 different meds in February. Good luck.

  4. Dear Debbie - my surgery was on July 25. And YES I'm having horrible time eating anything! Burning pain I chest/ throat most of time! I've even thrown up blood because of intolerance to food!!! Made emergency call to doctor and they didn't seem worried- just said to stick with "soft" diet !! I know your frustration- if you like we can email each other for help... I will pray that all will be better soon! :)

Hello, I had my surgery on July 11th, I was eating anything I wanted after two weeks of surgery but I have a stomach of Iron. But I found out the hard way is that you may be eating a little to fast because I went through the same thing and eating a little more than you can handle. Your stomach can hold 30-40 ounces before surgery and 3-4 ounces after surgery. It will get better with time and the weight loss is amazing. I have lost 28 pounds since surgery but could of lost more if I had stuck with the system.

  5. Hi guys. I am a newbie from Charlitte but going to Dr. Heider in mooresville. I am hoping to have surgery within the next 6 months.

Good luck with the surgery, I had mine July 11th and have lost 28 pounds since the surgery. 77 pounds since February since I started the diet. Lose as much weight before surgery it will be easier on you, especially when they have to move the Liver.

  6. I am preop with dr. Kim too moody!

I had my surgery July 11th and last weekend we went to Bush Gardens Williamsburg which is great but I rode most of the rides except one which I had to get off because I was to big. Yes this was very embarrassing especially since I had lost 77 pounds since February. I can not wait to go again after more weight loss and ride what ever I want.

  7. Hey there July! I'm new to this site and think it is GREAT!! It's good to relate and have helpful hearts available.

I am wondering if there is anyone out there that is structured like me... I am a 6' tall lady and at the start of this journey I weighed 367. I was sleeved on July 30. I have lost' date=' as of 8/26, 50 pounds. I don't know if that is fast or slow? I know everyone is different, but haven't seen anyone "my size" to ask...[/quote']

I am not a lady but you are doing great. I had my surgery on July 11th and have only lost 28 pounds so far but I hit a stall and I am finally starting to lose again. I started out pre surgery in Feb. on a diet and lost from 389 to 340 lbs. the day of surgery and as of this morning 312 lbs., you are not losing to fast just getting rid of a lot of Water weight is what the Drs told me. The first 5 lbs a person loses is liver fat then Water, then fat. Keep up the good work.

  8. I'm feeling ok but weight loss is slow Ive lost 32 since surgery and 21 before surgery but everything has slowed a lot. I haven't been able to exercise for a month cause of kidney stones. I finally can now

Did they say what caused them, I have one now and had to go to the ER Sunday morning and they tell me I will pass it, hurts like the dickens. I think I will name it.

  9. I worry about kidney stones with all the Protein intake and the inability to get Water in..... I'm always worried cause my urine is extremely concentrated' date=' I'm constantly thirsty, I freeze Water bottles and take them on the go[/quote']

I had my surgery on July 11th and have a kidney stone now that I am trying to pass, and its not good. Drink plenty of fluids if you can and eat every three hours they tell me but I farm for a living and I don't know what I will be doing in three hours. Good luck.

  10. I am five weeks out and having a really hard time eating enough. On most days I eat a yogurt' date=' maybe some unsweetened applesauce and a little cheese. I am just not hungry. I have had horrible nausea which is finally getting a bit better and my sense of smell is intense. Neither of those things help with my appetite. I have tried all of the Protein drinks and powders and just cannot stomach them yet. I am hopeful this will change as more time passes. I am sure I am not getting enough Protein and probably not enough fluids. This is a tough adjustment for sure!![/quote']

It has been five weeks since my surgery and by the second week I was eating what ever I wanted to like before surgery but just not as much. The Nutritionist told me that by not eating every three hours and sipping on fluids that this has caused me to stall with my weight loss. I have lost 25 pounds but gained 5 pounds back and have stalled, if I had kept up with the weight loss like I was I could have lost 40+ pounds. Now I have a Kidney stone because they said I was not drinking enough fluids. I know that some people talk about only eating three times a day but you need to eat every three hours to get your protein in. Good luck.

  11. Mee!!! I'm in a 2 and a half week stall now. I hate it. It makes me feel like I went thru this whole ordeal for nothing. Although I did step on the scale this morning and it had went down a lb. fingers crossed it keeps heading south!! :)

I know how you feel, I have lost 25 pounds since my surgery on July 11th and I have been eating eating what ever I want since the second week and I have actually put on 5 pounds. This really sucks I can eat what ever I want but very small amounts not happy now because I have a Kidney stone I am trying to pass.

  12. I to was sleeved on July 24 and lately I have really been tired. I also get light headed when I walk. I read in the manual given to me by my doctor and found out that I could be having Protein fatigue. So I am going to bulk up on the Protein and hopefully it will go away. I was feeling so energized but now that I am on 4 to 6 weeks of mushy foods at 1/4 cup each I just don't think I am getting enough food. But the rules are the rules. The bad think is my nut and nurse are both going out on maternity leave. That doesn't give me a very good support staff. Frankly I'm a little concerned.

Try Mir a lax, it works well. No problems

  13. In the limited time I have been hanging around this forum' date=' I have noticed something very disturbing. Yes, there is a lot of support and well wishes, light hearted jokes, and wonderful advice.

But, there is something more. Something dark, oppressive, in a word....judgemental. Perhaps more judgemental than I have ever experienced. Surprising, coming from a group of people who have historically been harshly judged, ridiculed, discriminated against, our spirits crushed because of our weight. Now it seems, some victims have become perpetrators of harsh judgement. Do they know? Do they realize it? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe they don't care. Maybe they believe in their perceived self appointed cause. Maybe its because they think they are an "expert".

What makes an expert? Nobody can agree. Are you an expert because you were or are fat? Because you had wls? Is it because your surgery was 10 yrs ago or are you an expert after 10 hours? Do you really know more at 5 years vs 3 years? Do you know more than a medical professional trained in wls or obesity? Does that not count if they were never fat or had wls?

Some of us are strong and do not care about your harsh opinions. Maybe some of us even think you are stupid for saying something so harsh or judgmental. But there are plenty who are soft on the inside, who make be more affected by being judged like that. Even though this is just a forum, people can be very hurt or confused by a nasty post. And the information some self appointed experts advise so strongly may be in error or cause injury.

If anyone should know how it feels to be judged it should be all of us here. So why are some doing it to others? There are better ways to get your "opinion" across than coming across as a self appointed expert.[/quote']

Amen, preach it. You sure hit it on the nail head. Maybe the way some were being treated was not the way they looked but because they have a bad personallity.

  14. Hi sleeved 23 July. First night was terrible' date=' could not stop vomitting, ony started drinking after 2 days and no problem scince. Ive lost almost 30kg. I struggle to drink enough and if I take more than about 3 easpoons of food I get a mild pain, I have ome to realise that if I eat only half that amount and feel more comfortable.[/quote']

Hang in there it will get better. Good luck.

  15. Guess Ill see a little more of a difference after I lose more weight!

I have lost a total of 75 pounds since February and that includes after surgery on July 11. Yes since the weight loss I can finally see it without a mirror and yes it has gotten bigger and there is a big difference with stamina I fill like the Energiser Bunny now. I fill like I am 17 again but I am 49 and the wife loves it. Hang in there it will come in time.

  16. Uh...yeah. Venison chili is the best.

My wife takes deer meat and soaked it in milk over night which takes the wild taste out of any wild meat which a lot of people use vinegar. But what she does is in a Wok like the Chinese uses she cuts it up in small pieces and cooks it real quick adding pepper then she makes a milk gravy and when it is done she puts it on yellow rice and it is awesome.

  17. I am pre-op' date=' just wondering if anyone is from the Charlotte or surrounding area.[/quote']

I live close to Siler City where Aunt B from the Andy Griffith show lived. I had my Surgery done at Rex Hospital in Raleigh done by Dr. Tyler at Bariatric Specialist of Ni.C. And he was super the best staff who are on top of thing and will bend over backwards to help in any way. Rex Hospital was outstanding in there care from the time you walk in till you leave and they sent a get well card a few days later wanting to know what else they could do for me. I hope things go well with everything. I had lost 50 pounds before surgery and they told me this helped with the surgery. There was a women who was in surgery who did not loose and weight and there was a lot of problems which put my surgery behind for 5 hours. Good luck and God Bless.

  18. Second follow up today and I found out I also had a hernia repair which explains that one spot that still aches from time to time. I was put on soft foods' date=' which is awesome, had salmon tonight and it was so awesome to eat food that looked like it is meant to look.

I do not weigh myself daily so I found out I have lost 38lbs since I was sleeved on the 17th of July,

So shocked and so glad I started this journey.[/quote']

Congratulations on the awesome weight loss. I had my surgery on the 11th of July and have only lost 25 pounds, I have hit a plateau and have not lost any for a little bit. The PA told me that you need to eat every 3 hours no matter what but as a farmer it is hard to eat like that, I eat when I can but I can eat anything I want. I was eating solid food by the second week. Sorry to ramble on but keep up the great work.

  19. I went to GNC and talked to the lady working there and she's a big fitness buff!! I bought some Quest bars (the white chocolate raspberry is Devine) these are only for a meal replacement at breakfast for me. I also purchased some RTD Protein shakes that she the recommended they are higher in Protein and lower in carbs and calories than the muscle milk' date=' They are called total Lean, Lean shake.

I sure hope my weight starts dropping again soon!!! I know I shouldn't complain but this was a major surgery and I had it for one reason and that was to loose weigh and to lose it quicker than normal... Cause that's what I was told will happen![/quote']

I had my surgery July 11th and have lost 25 pounds so far but I have hit plateau twice now and can not loose any more. My Dr.s PA told me yesterday that if you are not eating every three hours you will not loose like you should. I went on a diet in the middle of Feb. and lost 50 pounds before surgery for a total now of 75 pounds in six months. I lost real quick after surgery all my weight then nothing. Well I hope it starts up again soon or it's back to all liquid diet, maybe that the secret all liquid diet then you won't have to have surgery. Knock you out hit you in the stomach a few times put some band aids on you and tell you liquids only. Oh we'll.

  20. Oh my goodness! My head was screaming Leak! while I was reading this. I'm sooo glad that it's "just" a kidney stone. Horrible' date=' miserable experience to be sure, but at least it was quickly and easily resolved! I hope that you don't have any more trouble with them and I hope that your intestine resolves itself! Don't be hard on yourself for reacting to the pain as you did. I've heard kidney stones can be horribly painful and you know the ER docs and nurses probably see it all the time and totally understand!

    Best of luck to you![/quote']

I had Kidney stones once and passed 4 of them, I was ready to name them they hurt so bad. They say when a man passes them it is closest to a women giving birth.

  21. I work out 5 days a week' date=' and follow.a.strict diet...I have increased and decreased calories...I have pretty much tried everything...my doctor can't figure it out either...considering banding my sleeve...ever heard of it??? And yes I.meant 2012 :-)[/quote']

Hello, I went to the Center for Weight loss a few years ago and was doing good then I could not lose any weight then they checked my Testosterone level which were low they put me on the hell cream and I lost weight quick. Now you being a women it may be the same with the Horemones, not sure but ask the Dr. . Also have your Vitamin D levels checked because after the Testosterone a few months later I hit a mother plateau and my Vitamin D levels was real low and after taking 2000 mg. a day I started losing again. I ope this works or you find out why. Good luck.

  22. You were not in the wrong! Your daughter was! She received all of that for your birthday and STILL went behind your back asking for MORE? I know we all have times in our lives where our kids are less than stellar. You should sit her down and let her know how disappointed you are that she could be this selfish' date=' AND to leave you out as a punishment it seems for your not wanting to do the dinner after everything else? Do what mom's do best and make her feel so guilty she never tries THAT maneuver again! Lol sorry this happened. I could see my fam not inviting me while I am on liquids. But right now I suffer the opposite. My bf cooks dinner in front of me eats in front of me and leaves it out like he is wanting me to have some. Tempting me with no regards for how I feel.[/quote']

Sorry to butt in but as a parent, you have to be a parent first and a friend second. I have heard this to many times lately that I want to be a friend first. Well I am old school everything in life is earned and if your daughter has lost your respect then tell her about it and tell her that you are not going to except this behavior and that she will have to earn your respect back and the first thing she can do is return everything and apologize to everyone, starting with you. Good luck
