    Glad i changed my mind!

I have had friends that have done all three kinds of surgeries. I have 2 friends that have/had the lap band. One has had her band for over 4 or 5 years and is doing great with it and no problems at all. The other had to have hers removed because it was defective somehow. She ended up getting the bypass, and is not entirely happy with her choice. Although, she is losing slowly and consistently and is looking great, she does have a major issue with lack of energy and they can't quite figure out why. Another person I know had the bypass and was the" one in a million" statistic that ends up having major complications - he almost died and is still really sick! Another friend had the bypass 3 years ago, lost 90 lbs and has kept it off and looks great. Unfortunately, my friends that have had the sleeve are only 1 month and 6 months out, so I don't have a lot of history yet. The gal that is 6 months out is doing really well. I actually considered the lap-band 4 years ago and chickened out before I got a surgery date. Glad I waited, because now I am sure that the sleeve is the right choice for me! I'm one week from my surgery and I couldn't be more excited!

    July 8 Roll Call

I'm on the 8th as well! I've been on liquids for 6 days with little to no problems. I prepped myself for a few weeks before hand and started doing shakes in the morning 2 weeks before, then 1 week before shakes for Breakfast and lunch, so i was only eating "real food" at dinner-time. Had a great week that last week before liquids tho - told my hubby we were eating out every night that week and we hit all my favorite spots so I could have my last meals, so to speak. I still have to figure out who is going to come stay with my kids the day of surgery and the day after, as I am probably going to spend the night. My husband leaves for work at the ungodly hour of 4:45 AM, so I have to find someone to spend the night. I'm hoping my mom can come spend the night and stay a few days after as well. I have my ipad and my nook ready and loaded with plenty of movies/games/books, so I should be okay there. I'm very excited!!

    Upcoming Surgery

My surgery date is the 8th as well! I have been on liquids for 6 days. I am using Pro7ein Synthesis (?) from Nutrishops, because my order from Bariatric Advantage hasn't arrived yet. I think it is a pretty good tasting shake - I only have the vanilla one. The nurse in the office did tell me that I could add a tablespoon of sugar-free pudding mix or sugar-free jello to my shakes to add a bit of flavor and variety. There are all all sorts of flavors of sugar free pudding, but I think my favorite adds so far are the lemon and banana creme. I mix my shakes with 4 oz of 2% milk, 6 oz of water, ice, protein powder and pudding in a shaker cup and it makes a good shakes. Plus one scoop of protein is 34g of protein! I also have a cup of broth around dinner time each night, which gives me a break from the "sweet" shakes. Hope that helps! Good luck on the 8th!
  4. I see that your doctor was Dr. Bravermann - loved their program but wasn't able to go to them because of the f-ing insurance! I'm *** with the smallest network of doctors available to me ever!! But, I am having my sleeve done on July 8th with Dr. Johnsrud at St. Joe's - heard good things about them, but not as impressive as the NEW program. I have a question for you. Our family has booked a cabin-camping trip the weekend after my surgery up in the Mammoth area. that is only a few days after my surgery. Do you think I'll be able to handle a 6 hour car ride just a few days out from surgery? I was hoping to be able to go, but I told my husband to be prepared to go without me....

    Any july 8 sleevers?

I'm on the 8th! Just got my final insurance clearance last Monday and wanted to get it done ASAP! I'm in South Orange County, CA.....any one close by?
  6. I am on day 6 of my two week pre-op liquid diet and I have had a cup of chicken broth everyday at "dinner time" to give me something savory in order to take a break from the shakes. I did doctor the broth a little. I sauteed some carrots, celery and onions in a saucepan with the tiniest bit of butter until they browned slightly, then added in several cans of Swanson's low sodium broth and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes. Then drain the solids out. I kept it in a pitcher for a couple of days and when I needed something savory, I would have a cup of this. So far I am down 7 lbs in 6 days! I'm very excited for my surgery which will be on the 8th!
  7. I am pre-op, surgery is scheduled for July 8th. I have told a handful of people and am not going to keep it a secret. I had a friend who had the lap-band about 3 years ago and didn't tell anyone. Just said she was watching what she was eating and working out. But she was losing so fast that you could tell something was up. The only reason she ever told me was because I told her I was considering getting a procedure done. Then I felt like she had misrepresented herself by not being honest up front. I figure I'm going to tell people, so then if someone is considering it, they know they can come talk to me about it and maybe it will help someone else make a decision.
