    October Sleevers - Men's Room

Major loser That does not sound like fun!!! Is the issue that it is hard to get down or if you go to fast you spit it up?

What is your current diet? How much water are you drinking per day?

    When can i eat salad?

I was told I was healed at 5-6 weeks. It takes 5-6 weeks for you to grow new bone when you break an arm, 10 days for your skin to heal when cut, 4 months for your skin to heal when if us your stomach. Doesn't sound right, but I'm no Dr.

    10 weeks post-op. Down 70lb.

that is awesome. I am 4 days post op.
  5. One horror story that freaked me out is people saying they can only drink 2oz of Water every 15 min. I was afraid I would not be able to drink water and that freaked me out. I timed myself drinking 16oz of water at a leisurely rate. I was not rushing or trying to see how fast I could drink it. 14min (watching TV, carrying on a conversation...) That is hardly the 2 oz every 15 min.
  6. I was sleeved Friday at 9:30 and went to my sons football game Saturday at 11:30. Only stayed for 1/2 of it. I have no issue drinking anything, but the sweet shakes are driving me crazy. I do not like sweet stuff so I am going nuts. I just ordered unjury chicken Soup and unflavored to give me other options. I went to my PCP because I have been sick with a cold for a month and now it is bad and he could not believe I had surgery 3 days ago. Friday and Friday night was rough, but I walked every 2 hours. Today I have my chest infection, unrelated to the surgery, and liquid in liquid out, but no pain at all.

    October Sleevers - Men's Room

I had surgery last Friday (10/18/2013) and the last time I ate a real meal was Wednesday Night, however I did have an egg sandwich on Thursday morning. Since Saturday, I have not had anything except protein shakes, a couple pop cycles, and a couple Jello pudding snack. You can not put your head around not being hungry pre-op, but post-op, you are never hungry, not even the smallest bit. I drink the shakes because I am supposed to, not because I am hungry or thirsty. Compare that to the 24hours fast I did pre-op where I was starving. Currently my biggest issue is I do not like sweet stuff and all the protein drinks are sweet. I am sick of it so I ordered Unjury Chicken Soup and Unjury no flavor that I can add to soup. I am SICK of SWEET CRAP. I had surgery Friday at 9am, went to 1/2 my sons football game on Sat @ 11:30. I have only told a couple people about the surgery and at the game on Saturday, people could tell I was not all there so when they asked what was wrong with me I told them I was hung over. :-). Sunday I went grocery shopping with my wife and everyone we know was there and no one thought anything was wrong with me. Why would they, I had no pain, I was walking around, I was fine. Today I went to my PCP because I have a chest infection, unrelated to the surgery, and he could not believe I had surgery last Friday. He thought I was saying this coming Friday and when he understood I had already had it he asked me to lift my shirt for proof. He could not believe it. That is my experience. Here is how I see the difference between pre-op and post-op dieting. Pre-op, you try not to eat and it is difficult and it sux a lot. Post-op, I am never hungry and force myself to push back another protein shake. I am 2 days out and I am sick of sweet stuff. Oh, and I have to remember I can not gulp like before. It hurts a little when you do. If I did not have this chest infection I would feel perfect. Now I feel the same way as I did pre-op when I got a chest infection.
  8. I'm 2 days Post-Op. I have no problem getting my fluids down. I have had Water, Protein shakes, chicken broth, cream of celery Soup (strained) chocolate pudding, pop cycles... I have never been one to eat sweets and all the liquid diet food is sugary tasting. It is getting really old. Does anyone have any ideas?

I felt the same way. I second guessed everything until they gave me the go to sleep shot. I am 2days post-op and I'm great. The stress is normal.

    Am i losing my mind?

I had mine Last Friday and was freaking out. When they started wheeling down the hall I panicked. The first night was a little rough. I did get up and walk every 2-3 hours for 10-15 min. I could not keep Water down so I got nausea medicine and started drinking fine. Now I am 2 days out and I feel kinda normal. Pain is minimal, I can drink water and shakes with no issue. My only issue is I do not line sweats and all the Protein drinks are fruity or sweet. Kinda tired of that. It is normal to freak out. You know what is right in your heart so just do it. I hope your recovery is like mine 'cause I feel great.

I bet. I watched my family eat last night and wanted to nibble. I'm not hungry, I just wanted something other than liquid.
  13. I did it. Yesterday I was sleeved. It was a tough day/night, but I made it. Around 5:30 I took some anti nausea meds and started feeling so much better. I left the hospital and went to watch a little of my sons football game then went home and took a nap. I am currently running a low grade feaver. It may be from the flu shot they gave me in the hospital, at least that is what I am hoping.

Do protein shakes made with water count as your daily water intake?
  15. I went to the lake this weekend and could not put on a "XX" Life Jacket oops. No huge deal, I am used to it and it is normal. I check the rides at universal studios to make certain I can fit in the seats then makeup an excuse not to ride it, if there is a chance it will be tight... My BMI is 41 and I am decent health, but I can feel myself getting older and my health is starting to not be as good as it was 2 years ago. I have 3 levels in my home and get tired walking up the stairs . My last SUPER SERIOUS weight loss was 26 lbs last year, but it is all back... I am certain you understand.... My wife is starting to put pressure on me about my weight and she is right. Also, I want to be able to do things I used to do. However, I am SO SCARED of this process. I am scared of the liquid diet... How can you eat liquid for a month. No wonder you loose weight you are on a liquid diet. If I only ate liquid for a month now I would feel like I was gonna die and loose a lot of weight. I love to eat a steak dinner and have wine with my wife, will I give that up forever? I like to sit on the front porch and drink a beer and talk to my wife, will that be gone forever? My insurance will cover it, but I honestly am scared... If I ever reach my "Ideal Weight" how do you eat 2,000 cals a day to build/keep muscle when you stomach is gone... This is a difficult thought process for me and it feels like the weak way out. If I do it, I don't want to tell anyone except my wife and father (they will take care of me out of the hospital). Anyone have any thoughts?

They did a leak test during surgery and did not do another one. I'm not just going home. I'm on my way to my sons football game. I have drank 30 oz of water and two pop cycles today. I feel good. Definitely do not feel like I got my stomach removed.
  17. I'm done. Yesterday, Surgery day, was rough, but I made it through it. The hardest part was trying to drink Water and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't keep it down turns out it was nausea, but I didn't feel like I was going to throw up. This morning around 6 AM I asked for nausea medicine and have been a successful drinker since then, 1/2oz at a time. I drank 20 oz in 2.5 hrs. The gas pains are intense and my fat stomach looks bloated. I told my wife she could rub it and it would bring her good luck. She would not. Dr sent a piece of my liver to get a biopsy. He told my wife I had fatty liver disease. I don't know what that is, but when he comes to release me today I will ask.

  19. It has been a week of serious contemplation. I'm going to the hospital. I'm nervous and second guessing everything, but I'm going.

  21. I can't comment on what to eat, but you have had a very rough road and should NEVER feel like a failure. You have conquered everyone's worst fear and are on the road to recovery. I am certain you will see the results you are looking for. This process is about getting healthy and it sounds like you are doing that. Weight loss is part of the process so I am certain you will see those results soon.
