3 month surgery aniversary.
the-Russ replied to Shoota's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
congrats on the progress. I have not had WLS yet, but from what I have seen in my reading is that people lose weight (100 lbs in a year or less) at 1# a week people would never reach that. After 3 months, how is your quality of life? Do you feel normal? I am nervous to do this because I am fearful that I may never be the same again. Obviously that is the point, but I am fearful I will do something that is irreversible with regret. -
I Got My Head Shrunk
the-Russ commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Yes that shirt makes your head look big. I did the 30 min talk, the test, and left. It was the 500 question questionnaire and it dealt with eating food, taking meds, religion, and self-esteem. there was no feedback, no explanation to why I was there, or no discussion if he would recommend me to have surgery... When does the feedback happen? -
Its amazing how different everyone looks and how the clothing style changes. Before - Something comfortable After - Something stylish

Not doing the liquid diet
the-Russ replied to Ashlee K's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would do what your Dr. says and not what anyone else's Dr. says. I am far from my preop diet, but I asked my Dr. about it. He said he gives different instructions to each patient depending on their condition. When I am struggling to succeed (it will happen), I hope people will tell me, "This moment in time is not forever. Exercise a little self-control and just do it without making excuses and/or looking for people to support you in your failure." -
(We have a unique relationship) Your relationship is NOT unique, 50+% of marriages are setup to fail. How can you be secure if he is looking at other people and lusting. No one, woman or man, wants their spouse to think they are not hot OR kinda hot. You should look at your husband and think he is hot and want no other and your husband should think the same toward you. Sorry you fell victim to silly crap on TV that even the actors don't adhere to. I hope you can put your life on a path for success.

Awesome!!! I LOVE to dive and was curios if there were any complications. I am looking forward to not having to dive with a ton of weight and getting new gear :-) I have never dove in NC, but I would like to go look for those Fossil Teeth. I like to go to the country of Bonaire and I usually dive 30+ times in a week. I have a friend who dove 50x times one week while I was there. -

Co-workers are starting to notice weight loss!
the-Russ replied to greygirl903's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could be completely wrong, I have not had my VSG and I am thinking about all these things. Have you heard anyone that has been successful not telling anyone? If it eventually gets out and everyone knows, maybe I should just tell everyone. -
Co-workers are starting to notice weight loss!
the-Russ replied to greygirl903's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a difficult topic. Even though WLS has been around for 20+ years it is still not socially accepted as a normal form of treatment. Therefore, people are going to criticize us. I am new to this so I may be wrong, but these are my thoughts, fears, and insecurities as I struggle to work through this. Earlier, someone said the reason people are criticizing is because the co-workers were "Jealous". Unless their co-workers are overweight, I doubt they are jealous. I believe skinny people think we are weak, undisciplined, unsuccessful, and don't deserve respect. As well, they may not want us to succeed. As we lose weight we become "Achievers" but if they find out we had surgery, in their minds it only confirms to them that we are weak... Therefore they will talk about us to make themselves feel better. I am NOT planning on telling anyone except those VERY close to me, spouse & parent, because I think they will judge me. I have thought about if I should tell the overweight person and it is a tough situation. If I don't know them I think I would tell them to do what I do and if it is difficult you should talk to a Weight Doctor that specializes in Bariatric. If I know them I would have to trust them a LOT to tell them. as you can see I am not comfortable and a little scared to tell people. There is no "EASY WAY" out of obesity, and VSG is not going to be easy, but I hope it is the tool that helps me stay consistent. -

LOVE IT!!! Maybe I should become a BeachBody Trainer before my sleeve so I can sell them shakes and capitalize on their desire to be thin. -
Should it Stay or Should it Go! (My Fat)

FP9107 - What you described is exactly what I need to do. I hope it doesn't take me 6 months. I am pushing to get it done prior to the holidays in enough time to be healed for Christmas. -

I have a 90 day waiting period. Do you have to wait till the end of your 90days to get approval. -

I too have Aetna. I don't know why my Dr's Insurance coordinator said I needed a letter from my PCP, but she did. Should I make an appointment to see him or just call his office and ask them to send a letter to my surgeon. Tomorrow is my 1st NUT appointment. Since this is the case, does that mean I can submit for approval 8/3 (91 days?) After that what is the process? Allow 14 days for approval and then schedule the surgery? That would mean I could possibly be around the 1st of NOV? I would love to do it sooner, but need advice how, if it is possible. My main concern is I am healthy and able to enjoy my Christmas. -
No, sorry if I wasn't clear. I will be traveling to Mexico for business during the 90 day evaluation process. I was referencing the comment by UCCMART "You will have lots of things to do to fill up you 90 days" I know there are a lot of items I need to get done so I am a little stressed how I will get them all done while traveling.

ALEXCO, did you start P90X? How are you progressing with the program and your WL?
-
I don't know everything I need to do, I guess I'll find out on Friday. I do know, however, I will be traveling back and forth to Mexico for 6 weeks.
