    Dr Quinones issues

Who controls those numbers anyway? Where do they come from? Any doctor I have asked (in the U.S or Mexico, it matters not) seems to just give an arbitrary answer. I never see studies, formal and verified results, etc.

    Dr. Aceves, Mexicali, and Me!

Didn't you have some medical care on your way back home? How was that covered?

    Dr Cirangle CA Self Pay

Your comment about insurance and complications are not relevant to the country the surgery was performed. In neither case would it be covered. Also your comment about after care is irrelevant for those who come from out of state. Mexico, California, Florida....it matters not.....aftercare is a problem. And with you saying your safety is your main concern yet you felt ok not having a stay in the hospital after surgery!?!?! Don't get that at all.....

    Dr Cirangle CA Self Pay

I don't think that is true about the 5 year post op care. I had a consult with him and he never mentioned that. I am quoting here what Dr Cirangle said about not doing a leak test: "I have never had a leak, and as such do not see a need for them. It also increases bleeding". I am not comfortable with that at all. As an out of stater, I want to make sure my sleeve is good. I don't care if he has never had one (may not be true anyway), I could be the first one. There were some other concerns I had about him, though I have to admit: he is probably a very good surgeonw ith excellent skills. He was just not right for me.

    Dr Cirangle CA Self Pay

Just remember Dr Cirangle does not believe in post op leak tests. It was for this (and a few other reasons) I decided to go elsewhere.

    Dr. Aceves, Mexicali, and Me!

Did you take out any sort of insurance in case you had complications? Or how were you going to deal with complications financially had you had any?

    Dr. Aceves, Mexicali, and Me!

I think I would just as soon not have a BM soon after surgery though.

    Dr. Aceves, Mexicali, and Me!

Why do I feel weird about eating the night before surgery? Where does that food go? I doubt it will pass in time for the surgery. And the thought of having to go to the bathroom soon after surgery makes me cringe with pain.

Dr Alvarez....the good and the bad.

It will be hard to find anything negative about him, from what I have found.

    Introduction

A BMI of 30 is still obese. She can stand to lose 70 pounds. I think it is easy for heavier people to judge those who have a lower BMI (just like someone with a 60 BMI might judge someone with a 40). I think everyone knows their own journey and tolerance. I have actually read MANY studies that suggest the BEST time to get surgery is at as low of a BMI as you can get. The risks are lower, surgery is easier on you, and results are long term.

You are allowed to have all that so soon after surgery?

    Introduction

I think at a BMI of 30 now is the perfect time to do it. Less risky than waiting until you weigh more. At 5'5" you can stand to lose more than 30 pounds, so I think you will do well (you could lose 70 pounds and still be just in the normal weight range....just tone and body build if you think you look too skinny). Good luck! There is a girl with your exact stats who was sleeved by Dr Garcia. Look up rollargirl from Australia.

    Not doing the liquid diet

My doctor lets his patients have a 'last meal' the night before surgery. Anything you want and 2 margaritas tops (though he does require a 1 or 2 week pre op diet depending on your BMI). I have no clue where all the variations of pre-op diets come from. Maybe part of it is the experience of the individual surgeon and how capable/comfortable he is with the gastric sleeve, BMI of the patient, co morbidities, etc.

Dr Acevez, Dr Ortiz or Dr Alvarez?

I emailed Nina and asked her if anyone else was having surgery on the same date as I. She said yes, and I gave permission to Nina to give my email to that person. She has since emailed me.
