My VSG procedure was at 9:00 am, on July 22nd. the IV quickly makes you drowsy and like they say when you wake up you wonder " when are we going to start". The anesthesia made me super drowsy. (It's like motion sickness times ten) I heard them say It was taking me about 30ish minutes to wake up from the anesthesia. As soon as I was coherent enough I started immediately applying lip balm and asking for shaved ice. I was only allowed to have 1 spoon of shaved ice every 15 mins, mainly to wet my mouth. Then starting at 4 pm they introduced Water and propel and crystal light (water). I attached a picture of the small "lids" they gave us to drink out of. Looks like a first communion amount of liquid!! They want me to take 15 minutes to drink that, it can be continuous if you need but the key is to drink slowwwww. Then at 4:45 pm I walked around our section of the hospital twice. At 5:00 pm they brought Jello and broth but with those i am taking it very slow to consume because I want to be precautions. I tried to pee after the procedure but nothing was coming out. Around 4 pm I was finally able to pee and I thought it was a lot of pee which made me happy but it also took me sitting in the bathroom for about 10 whole minutes and I had to push. The only bad part so far was the nausea which for me slowly came off in my opinion bc I was having ice chips and pushing the medicine button every 15 min. I've only walked once going to walk again in an hour around 10:30pm and pee again doing very well in my opinion. Everyone has a different experience, so far mine has been good/ great now at midnight I have been peeing a lot I will most likely be discharged tomorrow the day after my surgery !! One day at a time

Hi! I'm a teacher in Texas. My job is very interesting!! Previously I taught 3rd grade math and science but now at a new school district. So, I teach 6-8 students social studies. All of these students have failed a grade in the past. I also teach a high school online program. This program is for students who are behind on credits and need to graduate. Then, I have DAEP!! This is your behavioral program for those who have been through other programs and this is their last resort for discipline within the district. Needless to say, everyday I see something new! It keeps me on my toes for sure!!!

If you're taking in too much air when drinking, I highly recommend a Camelbak bottle. I've always used them at school and my NUT is a big fan. Even though it has a straw she said the design actually prevents you from taking in too much air. I also like them because its easy to track how much I've had to drink.

Hello Everyone! I had my surgery on the 17th! Everything went well. I was active since they put my in my room. My first walk was 2 am the next morning. I have been walking ever since. Not in any terrible pain. Just a little soreness from where the incision was where the pulled my stomach. And oh my the gas!!!!! I think the gas is worse than the soreness....lol! I've had my moments of trying to get my liquids down....the gas makes that a little difficult. But for now, things are good.

Anybody feel like they are nesting (like before you have a kid)?
Yesterday I woke up early, washed bedding, washed & folded 5 loads of laundry, vacuumed, laid new carpet, moved furniture, assembled a new bed, went shopping, cleaned 2 bathrooms...today I'm emptying out all kitchen cabinets, wiping out & reorganizing them. We remodeled are kitchen last winter, and for some odd reason, I decided now was a good time to move everything to where I want it. 2 days til surgery. It would be nice if I had this much energy after.

I am July 31st and i have already bought my sippy cups and kids utensils (tip from my hospital), i have everything I need for my hospital bag and am considering packing now. I am ordering these Protein Fruit Drinks from my NUT in the hospital after sirgery that we tried on PAT day. I am gonna ask her to bring me samples again after surgery to see if my taste for them changed. I just have to clean my house still with a good once over and go pay for the scrips they called over. 11 days to go!

Got my pantry and fridge stocked up, and did most of the cleaning yesterday. I'll finish cleaning today and pack my bag.
Tomorrow I will be with my Corvette club at an event so that will occupy my mind and chill me out.

I had my one week post-op appt today. I was on Clear Liquids only for the week after discharge. My recovery has gone well, except for a bad cough for 2 days (cold or allergies - was able to take robitussin). I am happy so far! Not having trouble getting my liquids in. Had one Protein Shake, 4 oz at a time, no prob. No prob with milk. I am slightly worried that stuff goes down pretty easy. Wish I felt the restriction a little more. Daily, I am trying to face just how much of this is really up to me. Reading the comments on this forum helps me face that.
And I am released to return to Water aerobics next week!

Thanks for passing on the sippy cup tip. I hadn't read that before but the smell of the Protein Powder I have tried is definitely the biggest turn off. Maybe I will get a travel coffee cup to use for it. But thereare plenty of sippy cups around the house to use in the meantime!

Just tell people that you have been eating healthy and exercising a lot! I'm not telling people at work about the surgery. So that's what I'm going to say.

I was sleeved yesterday! And I'm doing really good. I was so nervous, but it is not as bad as I expected. Once I got over the gas pains I don't feel any pain at all. It is more like just soreness.
