    july 2013 sleevers

Finally broke my stall!! Lost 2 lbs over the weekend. So now I'm down 22 lbs since surgery. I wonder if it was because I slightly changed up my diet this weekend and ate foods that weren't exactly pureed. Also, put on a pair of sandals I bought right before surgery, and they are too big now! If it weren't for the ankle strap I would've walked right out of em. Wish that would happen with my jeans already! lol

I was freaking out because I sort of am in the same boat. I've only lost 4lbs in 2 weeks.. I thought I was doing something wrong then I found out you have about a 3 or so week stall in the beginning due to your body needing to adjust, starvation mode (your body is trying to hold onto that fat), and just the shock of surgery in general. Once that stall is over, and you're doing exactly what you should, from what I understand that weight loss starts to speed up like it was in the beginning. While my scale is showing a slow loss, my inches are actually going down and my clothes are getting bigger and bigger each day. Try not to weight yourself constantly. I'm backing off of the scale for the rest of the week because it just distracts me from the reality of the situation.

I'm having that issue too. As we speak I'm eating tiny bites of refried beans and with every swallow, a gas bubble forms. My doc says it's very very normal for the first few months to experience this. It's very annoying.

I'm right there with you... Waking up in the morning is sooo hard lately! I'm sluggish most of the day then oddly enough I get this short lived bursts of energy in the evening. I will admit, though. I'm supposed to be taking my multivitamin 3 times a day and I take it only 1-2.. I'm sure I'm partially to blame for this.

Had my first soft scrambled egg with a bit of cheese today. It was so yummy. It's amazing how full I am off of one egg! One egg would've just been my first forkful of breakfast a few weeks ago! lol.

That stuff is so rank! I bought it once before and it tastes SO gross. I highly recommend Unjury unflavored protein powder. It virtually has no taste and it can be mixed into anything. I mix it right into my cream soups and barely taste a difference. I also heard Sam's Club makes a fairly good protein shake called Premier Shakes. I haven't tried them but they have gotten good reviews on this site. My surgeons office sells this product called Healthwise. They are fruit flavored protein beverage mixers. They also make hot chocolate and soups. They are SO good and pretty in expensive. You can either mix them with water, or even milk for added protein. I even make mine into smoothies on occasion.

Why did you choose sleeve over bypass?

I was reading that is takes 30 days for the hunger hormone to be out of your system or lose effect, rather... Who knows.. All's I do know is that I'm 2 weeks post-op and the physical hunger feeling is coming back.. I'm dealing with head hunger but I know it's physical as well. I'm hoping that goes away soon.

Why did you choose sleeve over bypass?

I chose the sleeve mainly because I did not want to deal with having my intestines messed with and the malabsorption problems that come along with bypass. And not to say anything negative about bypass, but the few people that I know that had bypass all have issues and look generally unhealthy, tired, one girl had yellowing of the skin.. It sorta put me off of Bypass. Also my surgeon pointed out, I'm fairly young and if I do end up having complications from the bypass I have LONG life of problems ahead of me. The sleeve just has so much less risk and the success rate is nearly just as high as Bypass. I originally was going to go with the Band but after doing my research I decided it wasn't a good option for me.

I was sleeved on the 22nd but also didn't have the complications that you've had. Glad you came out of that okay, how scary! I haven't really had any problems. I was feeling great about a week after surgery. My Doc couldn't believe how well I looked and was shocked I wasn't in any pain. I've had little issues, really. I cant get in all 80 grams of protein a day in and I'm still battling getting 48 oz of liquids without feeling too full. Regurgitation is probably my biggest complaint. I seem to really struggle getting in even 1/4 cup of pureed foods in. The slider foods are the easiest to digest but they really will stall a loss and are nothing but carbs. I'm down over 30 lbs since my I started my liquid pre-op diet and am super excited for next weeks weigh in with the doc. I personally haven't noticed a change really but whenever I bump into someone who hasn't seen me in a few weeks I've been told the loss is really obvious. I can physically feel the difference but my head hasn't caught up with the change yet so I'm not seeing it as everyone else is. I'm sure over time the more I lose that will change. Glad you're doing well! It may crappy that you have to be on 5 more weeks of fluids, but believe me.. Pureed foods have not been easy to get in. I'm over 2 weeks out and still mostly doing fluids for protein.

Well I thought I was getting off easy by not being nauseated by anything I've eaten so far but I spoke too soon! lol. Apparently mashed potoatoes are a no go for me. I just had a 1/4 of a cup with a bit of shredded cheese and well.. Yeah, it didn't want to stay in my sleeve. Ugh. There goes one of my favorite comfort foods. Blessing in disguise maybe?

    july 2013 sleevers

It's been a few weeks since I've been on here. Just wondering how the rest of the July 22nd sleevers are doing? For me personally, I can't complain. I was completely up and at it less than a week after surgery, recovery went amazingly well. I've had little problem getting in fluids and pureed foods. The first few days home was difficult, but now I'm getting at least 48 oz of fluids in with no problem at all and pureed I'm doing pretty well with. Certain things I've tried like Cream of Crab soup and bananas did not sit well but most things have been fine. I'm down over 30 lbs already which is amazing to me! I'm still not at my protein goal (80 grams a day) but I'm getting there. I'm averaging probably a bit more than half of that. I wanted to recommend HealthWise products. They have been a life saver as I don't like thick shakes.. These are fruit flavored beverage mixes and taste great! So much better than that nasty Isopure stuff and half the price. I also tried their hot chocolate variety pack and all the flavors are awesome, especially the Amaretto Chocolate. You can make great smoothies out of these. They also make a tomato bouillon soup that tastes more like clam chowder broth. It's really yummy. I also just wanted to throw a little bit of advice.. I'd stay away from "Slider foods" such as easily digestible foods like crackers.. These are way too easy to eat.. They are empty calories, full of carbs and WILL stall your weight loss. I was nibbling on these for about 2 or 3 days because they broke up the monotony, tasted great and digested far too easily.. Well, my weight loss came to a completely hault so I stopped and the weight loss resumed about a day after. So just beware! Now I know why my surgeon was adamant about me staying away from these things. Live and learn. Hope everyone is doing well!! And sorry to the people have a difficult time. I'm sure it will get better.

    Started Pre-op Diet

Every surgeon is different.. But mine has me on 8 servings of Optifast a day.. I get a choice of 2 bars per day and 1 Soup. As I said in my original post I could not stand the bars and I exchanged them for more shakes. I'll be honest about the servings too, I can't get all 8 in a day.. I have an average of 5-6 a day and I replaced the bars with a few solids a day. Like I'll have a few pieces of low fat cheese and turkey rolled up. I keep that extremely limited though so I'm mostly doing liquid. I also added in a few cups of seasoned low-sodium chicken broth in to break up the sweetness of the shakes. I am losing weight super fast too. I'm down 11 lbs already and today is only my 6th day! Good luck to you!! If you need anyone to talk to since we're going through this at the same time I'm here for ya!
