  1. Not only are you brave, you pull off the bikini perfectly! Wow!
  2. salad (greens) fills me up way too fast. That leaves me feeling unsatisfied . The "Protein first" mandate is a must for me. My body is keenly aware if I skip out on my proper nutrition. I do much better if I slice a cucumber or tomato and then add a lettuce leaf, cheese or chicken to that. I have yet to find anything that I can not tolerate . There are several things that I do not crave anymore, like bread, Pasta and fancy mixed salads. I will indulge in them from time to time but one or 2 bites and I'm done.

What to drink at a cocktail party?

Water with a lemon, or lime or cucumber slice makes a nice refreshing drink and looks good , too.

  8. She made it easier for you with her last sentence" friendships shouldn't be a negative thing so I will end ours" . Sorry but it's time to ask yourself if this opinionated chick is worth the effort? Probably not- she sounds like a fair weather friend who needs others to bolster her own esteem. Like the others have said, this is about her and her feelings and certainly has nothing to do with you. Head up, chin high! You have so much to look forward to, I promise. It's not easy but it's worth it.

    Spring cleaning wakeup call

Before shots are painful to me , also. They are a necessary evil when coming to terms with our new reality.

  13. I love the banana pancake also ( 1/2 banana and one egg) . I add other fruit or Protein powders or flavorings depending on my mood. Easy and yummy. Have fun with it. chicken apple sausage is my favorite on-the-go food. I cook the pack of 4 on Sunday and nuke one through out the week for breakfast or a snack.
  14. I looked at your pics and said wow! My hubby leaned to see what I was talking about . After seeing your photos , his comment was DAYUM! ( huge compliment in hubby -speak) . Amazing !

When will my FUPA go away?

I asked my surgeon when or if my FUPA will improve. He had never heard the term before , so I had to explain it to him. He cracked up , and tried to use correct medical terminology ( panus/ apron) for his answer. On my last visit , he told me he can't say the word panus any longer without thinking FUPA in his brain. Guess I taught the doc a lesson! BTW, The answer to my question was the FUPA can decrease but no amount exercise or weight loss will eradicate mine due to my age and past C-sections . He will help me get a pani covered by insurance after 12 months and goal maintenance.

Losing weight at an older age

I am 52 and I have find that I lost my weight at an average pace. Not fast or slow, just average and I am fine with that. I wish I had done this sooner because my quality of life has improved dramatically since my VSG. The biggest challenge for us older sleevers is the that our skin does not bounce back as easily as the younger ones. As everyone knows, as we age gravity is longer our friend, and our weight kind of accelerates the process. I would not change a thing. I have earned my wrinkles and my new wardrobe!
  20. I am 7 months out and eat b/w 700 -900 cals a day. I eat mostly Protein foods, and very little carbs and approx 4-5 ozs per meal. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it is more than enough for me. If I want a cocktail, I have one; the same goes for dessert or Snacks. I do not deprive myself but I find that a bite satisfies me as much as a plateful. I seem to crave chicken daily and after I have it, I am good to go for a while. Quest bars are a "go to" food for me, I always have one stashed nearby. the weight loss is definitely slowing down, but it is still at 1 lb a week.
  21. Sometimes when some have asked how much, I answer " a 5th grader " . I must admit that I watch them trying to do that math! I am going lift your "more than I should have had to" . Perfect answer for a nosy question.
  22. Here's a few pics of my sleeve journey so far. The first collage is pre-op and 1 month post-op. The next is months 5-6-7. To date, I've lost 73 lbs, dropped from size 20-22 down to an easy size 10 . The weight loss has slowed down to about 1 lb a week, and I really need to get exercising more regularly to tone and tighten what I can. After 7 months I find that I need to keep diligent about my eating habits ; my sleeve feels good restriction but the brain wants "more". Got to work on that!
  23. Comfy Blue, I get sooo uncomfortable when people ask " how many lbs have you lost?" My stats are are almost identical to yours ( size 20-22 down to szv10, 73 lbs lost. ) In the beginning , it was nice when people noticed I had lost some weight. Somewhere after 50 lbs , the " how much" question started to make me quite squeamish. Part of it has to do with me facing the reality of how far I had let myself go. I am going to admit it, I look at my 'before' pictures and I am still so disappointed and yes ashamed, of myself . Last weekend , I saw people I generally see 1-2 times a year. I was cornered by 6 women who wanted to know my " secret" to successful weight loss. 2 of them knew the truth from my husband ( the chatterbox!) so being coy or vague was out of the question. I answered that I had worked with a surgeon. But that wasn't enough for this crew- they wanted to know how much ? I did not want to answer , so I said "a bit" . They kept at it and when I evaded the question , they started to GUESS !! Can you believe the nerve of these people? The consensus was I had lost 110 lbs already ( nope - 70 , but still not going to tell them) . My weight was none of their business before or after my sleeve. This ruined my night . I am quite open that I had WLS , but my husband , sisters, mother or closest friends never, ever ask " how many lbs? " what makes casually acquaintances think they can? That's ignorance on their part fueled by shame/ embarrassment on my part. I am thrilled with my physical results so far , but I have to work on myself. I have to make peace with my past so I can fully enjoy my future. Until then, this question will cause me to squirm , and will be perceived as an invasion of my privacy. I am so grateful for this forum. People here understand each other's struggles and honesty .
