really hungry... anyone else?
DestinClair1983 replied to eyoung's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you sure it's real hunger or could it be cravings? Maybe it could be the acid in the stomach causing you to feel that way. Are you taking a proton pump inhibitor like Protonix or Prilosec, etc. If you're on full liquids, maybe some broth, sugar free popsicles, fat free milk, yogurt, low cal juices, or protein drinks, decaf tea is what comes to mind. -
Can I take a bath?
DestinClair1983 replied to Steph W-O's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, like what was said above, I think 12 days post-op is too soon to take a bath, if even a tiny bit of your incision is open, there's a risk for infection, so that's why you should wait until they're all 100 percent healed, but I agree that you should call your surgeon's office to get an exact answer. -
The gas pain was pretty bad for me post op, but it pretty much got better after several weeks. Just hang in there, it will get better!

Nasty orange chewable vitamins
DestinClair1983 replied to *Glitter*In*The*Air*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my gosh 8 a day? I bought this huge bottle of chewable multivitamins from bariatric advantage, and post-op I threw up after taking it. I tried crushing the pills and mixing it in liquid, but to no avail, still got very nauseous. Maybe you can try crushing them and putting it in maybe a protein shake or something that has thicker consistency like yogurt. About a month or two after surgery, I tried it again to see if I'd be okay with it, because I hated those pills to go to waste because they weren't cheap. Unfortunately, I got severely nauseous after trying it again, so I think my body will never be able to tolerate it unfortunately. I had to switch to the multivitamin tablet that's not chewable, even though it's not complete, it's the only thing I can get down! -
My doctor prescribed clear liquids while in the hospital, then full liquids for 2 weeks after discharge, then 2 weeks of pureed, 2 weeks of soft foods, then regular diet 6 weeks post-op.

Robotic assisted VSG
DestinClair1983 replied to want2besleeved87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had robotic assisted laparoscopic vsg, and I had some pain post-op but nothing out of this world that wouldn't be expected after major surgery. I've had no complications whatsoever from the surgery, just some increasing pain about a month after surgery, but the CT scan was negative for anything, so they figured it was just muscular pain. -
Congratulations! Wish you the best on your journey!

Will I ever drink water normally again?
DestinClair1983 replied to alocklea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3.5 months out, and I'm now able to comfortably chug down about a third of a 16.9 oz water bottle. I'm so glad that it doesn't hurt anymore to drink water, that was terrible the first few weeks where I could only take a few sips when I felt like chugging down the whole thing! -

How do we know if insurance covers surgery
DestinClair1983 replied to StawberryBlond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The CPT code for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is 43775. That's the code I gave to my insurance company to ask if they covered the sleeve gastrectomy. -
Frequency of Plateaus/Weight Stalls
DestinClair1983 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I have a quick question. I know that plateaus are a normal part of the weight loss process, but is it possible to plateau too often? For example, being about 3 1/2 months out, is it normal to have stalled three times already? Thanks for any responses! -
I am wanting to "recreational" eat all of a sudden.
DestinClair1983 replied to catered1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That has happened to me. I think that it starts small...maybe a little bit of something here...why not a little bit of that there, hey while I'm at it, I'll have this the next day. It's very hard mentally. I just reflected on the reasons why I had the surgery in the first place: to get healthier, to be happier, to be able to do the things I want to do that I currently can't because of my weight. I say to myself, after everything that I've been through to get this surgery, am I really going to sabotage myself and not reach my goals because of what I want to eat right now? It has helped me stay on track. -
Frequency of Plateaus/Weight Stalls
DestinClair1983 replied to DestinClair1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, technically age does have a role in weight loss. The older we get, the slower our metabolism gets, so the weight loss might be slower, but of course there are tons of people who, at an older age, have been very successful with their weight loss efforts. It's about dedication, working hard to reach those goals, and staying on track with what we know we're supposed to do to move those stubborn pounds. -
LOL the mental image that you gave me was hilarious!
-
Good job, and keep it up! VSG stands for vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

Welcome to the forum slmwo! Congratulations on your surgery! It was also tough for me those first two weeks of liquids after the surgery, but it made the transition towards soft foods that much more exciting lol. Good luck!

I have not lost any weight in two weeks! So frustrated!
DestinClair1983 replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could just be a stall, which is a normal part of the weight loss process. I also measure myself to keep an eye on my progress because sometimes the scale isn't our friend. Have you been sticking to your diet plan? Protein first, enough water, etc, making sure you're getting the right amount of calories in? -
Here's a thought...
DestinClair1983 replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's an awesome quote. I think it'll also help me whenever I'm having a very strong craving for something that I shouldn't have. Thanks for sharing! -
Hey Ryan! Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your surgery date! I know when I was on the 2 week pre-op diet, I struggled a LOT to stick to it. There were some days where I caved in and had something I wasn't supposed to, but I just got right back on track because I knew how important it was to adhere to the plan. I was so scared that if I didn't follow the plan, I would get put under anesthesia the day of surgery, wake up, and find out that they didn't do the surgery because my liver was too big! I was probably a little too paranoid about that lol but everything turned out okay. Just keep strong!

Maybe some sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, protein shakes.
-
Hopefully those 9 days will fly by! I wish you a speedy recovery after surgery
