  1. I was thinking about this very topic a week ago when someone looked at my DL and could not believe it was me. For one I was at my peak weight 85 pounds ago, also a disproportional amount came off my face and now I have a beard. I would not recognize myself. i will have to see if they will let me change the picture because I have over 4 years to go before it runs out.

    loosing too much weight

i dont know what you mean by waste away if you exercise? it helps build muscle and bone. It would take enourmous efforts to waste away with exercise, you will run out of energy well before that.

Tijuana, and the birth of Frankentummy

No question the my biggest worry about flying for my surgery was the follow up issue if there was a major problem. Fortunately there was nothing that could not be handled over the phone.

Butter, are you considering a panni? if so I hope you post your experience. I am a year behind you and hope to duplicate your success.

    Plastic surgery for men

I hope you are not typical for I followed some of your travails. I may live with my panni if I ever get there.
  6. hit the post too quick. I am at 200 pounds and taking in 1100 calories and my weight has not stopped dropping and fast. i am upping to 1200 with over 100 gm protein. Then again, i exercise about an hour five times a week and 30 minutes the other two days so that must account for something. Once i get close to goal I will have to see what i need to do to maintain.

    Plastic surgery for men

I think i will be happy with a simple panniculectomy, if that. The recovery is so much easier and being nearly 60 it is hard to get too worked up about cosmetic details, just getting that flap of skin out of my way.
  8. I went alone but to NC not mexico. I needed very little stuff as they have the system down pat. I expect the mexico sites are even more prepared. It was a little challenging doing things for myself but it was doable and I was not one of the lucky ones that had it easy-- lots of gas pain, etc. from what I read I dont think you will have much opportunity to walk in mexico, outside the hospital.
  9. great! I am two pounds away myself. I weigh weekly and am hoping to reach it next weigh in (Friday).

My daughter and son in law is staying with us for a month awaiting their flight to china. He is 6'7" muscular and clearly has an athletic build. He also eats an unbelievable amount of food, but that is besides the point. My wife was doing laundry and I just moved into large sized underwear and turns out i bought hanes which is the same thing he wears. we could not tell his apart from mine! when i see me I do not see myself being the same size as him, but there it is.

    loosing too much weight

why do you think that a mid range bmi is too low?
  13. all of the above, too big a bite, not chewing well enough, bites too close together and even the type of food, some are tougher than others to tolerate- i can have shrimp and tuna but chicken is a no no. My nut said that a bite is the size of the eraser on a no. 2 pencil- i actually get away with something slightly bigger but not much. good luck it is an awful feeling.

    84 pounds gone!

truly inspirational! any problems seeing yourself as thin as you are? My brain cannot catch up to reality yet. I am the smallest in decades but still think of myself as quite large, even though i fit into tiny sizes.
  15. had the same question. Hellooo. from someone that has a bmi in the high 30's-- a woman who doesn't know why we would want to lose weight? i told her that i was under the impresion that losing weight would be a good thing. and she went ---oh yeah.

    Full liquids

I had the same thing. the greek yougurt was the easiest to eat as well as scrambled egg (after the fluid stage) yet other things like pureed meats, pudding , refried beans were difficult. your stomach will tell you what you can have. for me yogurt saved me becasue i was having a tough time getting enough protein.
  17. recently i was told to stop eating so little because i will get sick. as if carrying an extra fifty pounds will not hurt me. another patient seriously was asking why i wanted to lose weight? seriously?
  18. have you had any reactions from your students and colleagues?

    I just lied!

The lie is natural, for one it isnt their business, for two they will not keep it to themselves so your answer is like taking an ad for everyone to know. I tell them i hardly eat anything--how true! and that i exercise an hour a day--also true. unfortunately in my experience people are rather smart about these things and any prevarication will be taken as a yes. I have not had anyone ask me that directly , so I will see when that comes up. So far my back up prevarication is that i decided to get a 'touch of chemo' for the weight loss benefit. i wait a second before smiling and indicating I am joking. It always changes the subject but it does tend to go over the line every once in a while.

My daughter and son in law are traveling to China for a ten month teaching gig. they were packing and wanted to weigh their bags (50 pound limit), but he weighs 255 and holding the bag exceeded the 300 pound limit.my daughter did not want to see her weight so she did not want to do so. it took a few minutes but then i realized, holy cow i no longer nearly weigh that much i can hold it. and i wasnt bothered by the non early morning weight. go figure. Never would i have voluntered for such an embarrassing chore. it is not embarsing to my son in law becasue he is 6'7" and muscular basketball player.

    Feeling good

enjoy, i did not feel good for 40 hours. it was manageable but good it wasnt. the lady before me by the same doc did great, looked like she had nothing done. not that I was jealous or anything.

    Feelin Down :(

from my readings on this and other forums a pound a day is a very aggresive number, the number that seemed more achievable was averaging 3 pounds per week over the first few months. And some unfortunate souls were lower than that. i personally was hoping for four pounds a week for a little while. 32 pound in 7 weeks sound very respectable and commendable. I understand that with all the work i did i ached to see the results of the effort and also to convince myself that this time it would be different. you did not mention any exercise and for me that has always been an esential part of losing weight.

    loosing to fast?

IMHO, your body will tell you when things arent right. I exercise about 4 to five times daily, of course some of those are 10-13 minute walks when i can fit them in. I dont know what 'falling of the grid' means to your doctor, but i am tired of not losing enough, or fast enough and now people telling me I am losing too fast or too much. what is all this controlling behavior about?

    100 lbs.....GONE!

Truly impressive. thanks for the advice too. Now you can go rock the dog pound. I am 6 weeks out and working hard with the same rules. Fortunately i love exercise. I am only able to get 1000 calories a day ( max) but i make 100gm protein. i suppose with time that will change.
