Mine was exactly 7 days from when they turned everything in to UHC.

    EKG vs Stress Test

I had all three, EKG, echocardiogram and stress test. The only reason I had the last two was because of a "blip" on my original EKG. If my original EKG had been fine, my surgeon doesn't require the cardiologist to do the last two.
  3. Ugh! I thought I was done!!! So my coordinator emails me today that they gave submitted to insurance and insurance requires 5 year weight history from docs or we can provide photos with max weight that year. Tough to find since I don't like being photographed when I'm fat!! I think I've got all the years covered but dang! I wasn't a 40 BMI until this year, but I have been obese for over 5 years. I hope they approve anyway!!
  4. I'm approved! I submitted some pics from the different years and less than a week later I am approved!!!

    Durham, North Carolina?

I'm in Apex. Waiting on insurance to approve any day now! Using Dr. Enochs in Cary
  6. Yes, it's for UHC. I emailed her pics but I wasn't a 40, so I'm nervous about getting approved! I'm a 40 now and I am fearful that it will just get worse and worse each time I lose 50 lbs and gain 75 back, ya know? I really hope this surgery gets approved and it works out for me. It's my last hope of being at a regular weight I fear!!
  7. I have: Online seminar about bariatric surgery Initial Meeting with surgeon Psych evaluation Chest x ray Fluoroscopy with barium EKG Gall bladder ultrasound Blood labs Gastroenterologist Nutritionist sleep study Cardiologist Follow up/results visit with surgeon and pre-op nutritionist
  8. Hey Don, why did you switch your avatar? You went from a nice/friendly looking guy to a gym rat!! . Ps: sippy cup is a great idea! I didn't think of that!!!
  9. Hi! I'm new here....wondering if anyone had to gain a little weight to be covered by insurance? I am 5'6" and 241 and in order to be a 40 I'd have to gain six pounds. I don't think I have any co morbidity. Healthy as a horse, just fat!!!

    Anyone from NC?

    I'm in Apex!!
  11. Thanks Sexyfort! That makes me feel a little better!!!
  12. Anyone done all three in one surgery? I just got done with all of my pre-op appointments and the gastroenterologist was the most shocking! He said I have gallstones so my gallbladder needs to come out and a hiatal hernia that needs repair. I know it's common to have one of these done with VSG surgery but both? Does it affect recovery time?
  13. I agree with ShellBell. Think about how many times you felt hopeless when you asked how someone lost weight and they said simply eat less and exercise more. So frustrating! I say tell them. If they are really interested. I wouldn't announce it on Facebook or at work, but if someone asked me I would tell them I had WLS.

I'm in the same boat as you. 39 BMI and only 4 lbs away from 40. Would my insurance really like me to hit 40 before they'll do it? Just another ridiculous strap of red tape.

    helppppp

Here's an idea. Only weigh yourself at the gym and throw out your house scale. Then you only get to weigh if you go to the gym or docs!! Built in reinforcement to go to the gym!!
  16. I'm still pre-op, but I'm a little worried about this too! I hope that I will be too scared to do it, but I know eventually I will become comfortable with my sleeve and I worry about testing my new limits....
  17. Today is day 2 without Diet Pepsi! Who hoo! I used to drink 6-8 cans/day!
  18. I'm on antidepressants (wellbutrin is one) and I have a low energy level so I'm not sure. I know I definitely have more energy than if I wasn't on them at all! You might want to talk to a psychiatrist to check it out. Better safe than sorry!
  19. I just had my sleep study last night and I have my gastroenterologist clearance appointment today and I will be DONE! Then I just have to wait for insurance approval and set a date! Getting so excited! And a little nervous!!
  20. I think gaining 6-7 pounds is worth it if I have to pay $150 versus $10-15k. I just can't afford to self pay.
  21. So I have only had one caffeine drink today. Whew...this is tough... How many days did it take you to quit? How long do the headaches last? I don't plan to reinstate my caffeine after surgery.
  22. Thanks for all of the advice and stories! My doc said to quit caffeine because it is a diuretic. I currently drink 6-8 diet Pepsi a day which I know both the caffeine and aspartame are horrible for me anyway, so I'm giving them up on my journey to be healthier. I only had 2 today so I'm hoping I can get down to one tomorrow and then none on Monday!!
  23. Did you purchase a digital kitchen scale for post op? What brand is your favorite?

    Diet coke

Thank you Don. I need to believe this so I can quit these damn diet Pepsis!!
