  1. Hi Everyone. I am wondering if anyone who had been on sleep aids (Ambien) before banding, found that they could sleep better after a good amount of weight loss. I am on ambien and have been for a while. I do not sleep well at this weight. Any experience with same?

    Removed Band After Goal Weight?

I really appreciate your comments. I think you are right on everything! I am going to be banded on 8/13 but I have struggled with weight my whole life and wanting to remove the band is indicative of not wanting to part with the food. Great comments!

    B-12 shots????

I agree with you because many people do not need b 12 so it is a bit strange to give everyone b 12 after being banded. My surgeon doesn't do that. Perhaps it is a matter of preference amongst individual doctors.

    Help w/ preop diet...

I was originally scheduled for surgery june 18 of this year. My insurance screwed that up so I was on liquids for 2 weeks. It was Protein drinks (slim fast, or carnation instant breakfast); fat free broth, sugar free jello; lots of Water. It wasn't the best experience but for me it wasn't terrible either because I had a lot of support. so.... I am now finally scheduled for surgery and the date is 8/13/07! I have to re-do the liquid diet once again. Try your hardest to stick to it. It isn't going to be fun and you won't feel like the girls in the commercials but just think of those Levi jeans that you will be wearing in a few months. Seriously. I can't wait to be able to open my closet again. All my clothes now live on a rack in my bedroom; the real deal clothes are in the closet giggling at me at night! LOL. GOOD LUCK! :kiss2:
  8. Hi: I haven't been banded yet but I can give you a little advice. The best thing to do is BOTH. Weight training is priceless because it really hits areas that cardio misses (and not intentionally). Although there is no such thing as target weight loss (technically); if you do weight training (upper back, shoulders, pecs, etc.); at least 2 times a week (gradually increasing weight once you get comfortable enough not to feel it that much); you will DEFINITELY see great great improvements with your upper body. You should not start with really heavy weights. Start with 5 unless those are very easy. If so, start with 8lbs ones. A good book to look at is body for life. They also have a website with transformations for you to view. its all real too. That program is great. The technique is called pyramiding because you keep increasing your capabilities quite freaquently so you continue to get stronger. The program works in 12 week increments and has a diet to follow too but after the band, you don't need that part but it teaches you about weight training and how to go about starting and making it work for you individually. Remember to Isolate! Good Luck:clap2::whoo:
  9. I'm ready for my banding. My date is 6/18. How is everyone? Anyone banded in NYU Weight Loss Program with Drs. Fielding and Ren?

    Astoria - Queens New York

hey: I was wondering if you could help me with something. Thanks for offering. Turns out my insurance denied me on Friday! one business day before my surgery was scheduled. the day was a disaster. My firm ended up getting involved because the surgical coordinator at NYU told me that my doctor did everything right in terms of giving the information needed for my surgery. I don't believe that because every time I went in to see him for the six months, he would only write a little bit of information. Aetna and my firm ended up on a conference call with me on Friday afternoon and the insurance company claims that they wrote to my doctor and told him exactly what they needed in order to approve. They said they were missing diet information and also BMI index. my question to you is: do you have Aetna? if so, what exactly needs to be written in terms of diet information and bmi index? is it for the entire time that I've had weight problems and monitored by my doctor. I think he only wrote that I've been on a lo carb diet. I think this entire thing is his fault. Can you please tell me about what was written on your behalf so that I can have my surgery. I'm afraid that my doctor doesn't fully understand and will mess me up again. I would appreciate your help. Thanks! My email address is Aslin1@aol.com Thanks again. Nilsa

    June 2007 Bandsters

Congratulations. I too have a great fear of vomitting. I always have, which is why I have never been much of a drinker. So you met your surgeon and had the surgery right away? Wow. That was pretty fast. I guess every group does it differently. Where are you located?

Hi Everyone: I am a little nervous and quite sick of these protein shakes to be honest. I am also having clear broth since last Monday which is when I started the liquid fast. I lost about 5 lbs this past week and today was one of my worst days because I felt so weak. Any how - I can't wait until this is done and over with. the surgery part is making me so nervous at this point. These days are dragging for me. :kiss2:
  13. i'm doing liquids on pre-op and all this talk is scarring the crap out of me. Seriously. Do people get hungry after banding - worse than pre-op? I ask because this is what it sounds like.
