Palm Coast' date=' Florida [/quote']Where did you have our surgery?
-
HI all' date=' I am having surgery on October 1st. I cooked all day today in order to puree and freeze my dinners for after the surgery. I tasted everything and its 'ok' , but I'm not sure I will be able to stomach that consistency. Did anyone else have a problem eating the puree meals? If I don't like it, would it be bad if I just continued with Protein shakes until I could move to soft foods?P.S. I make chicken Soup, lentil soup, meatballs w/ Tomato sauce for puree.
Thanks!![/quote']
I needed to be on puréed for 2weeks. Well, the first week I was still working on managing the shakes and yogurt. By the time the second week came around I got into my supply of pre-planned puréed food and was able to manage it only once a day. But I needed to do it. Before the end of the 2 weeks I was just eating soft food, very small bites, and chewing very well. I'm 4 weeks out now and there are nights I still need my pureed Soups because my belly is just not up to soft solid food. A lot of people freak out at the idea of pureed food - but i't okay. it's temporary, not forever. you can do it!

Everything I liked before urgery, including the chewable vitamins, I couldn't stand after surgery. Thank goodness for the unflavored Unjury. I could mix it into what I could tolerate...and yogurt.... Saved me during the first 2 weeks

I had those for the first two weeks or so' date=' they got better as I healed. Just make sure to do small sips. It still happens if I take take big of a gulp.[/quote']Ditto....had the same problem. My belly didn't like the acid of Crystal Light, or anything sour or tart. It didn't like too sweet, it like warn or room temperature. No ice! Just take small sips...it gets better!

Id be a little careful with smooty tea if it has senna in it (thats tge ingredient that makes you gi). Unfortunately it can be a bit uncomfortable' date=' even with a whole stomach. Thats what I used before surgery and had to stop because it caused the worst abdominal cramps[/quote']I had no problem with cramps, but everyone is different.....

Does anyone know of an unflavored Liquid Protein? I have a problem with things that ae sweet and would rather add it to liquids I tolerate ? Thanks

My surgery was this thursday! This happened to you too? Wow i was feeling scared that surgery was not working for me
I had the same thought. I was waiting for the 'fullness' and it didn't come, but trust me it will come. I was a bit foolish and tried to push it and ended up 'getting sick'. Follow the plan, trust the process....you'll do great!

when was your surgery? i had that same experience at first, but that has changed! Im 4 week out and I'll be going along just fine then all of a sudden - DONE!

I had my sleeve on the 17 of sept.. And what I'm wondering is that I hear different surgery like about after surgery some have a house to drain liquid and I didn't and on how the Dr. went the next day to check for leaks? I also didn't have this. Why its everyone different if its the surgery? You shouldn't need a drain after VSG. The RNY's need one, but not the VSG's. Surgeons check for leaks while your in the OR. I also had a contrast swallow the next morning to double check for leaks. there is a lot of swelling on your stomach after surgery and it can be really tight making drinking fluids a whole new experience, and not necessarily a fun one.
I was able to manage one shake a day, plus Jello, popsicles and Water. i also had unflavored Protein that i could mix into the Jello. it was 7 day before i tried pureed fruit and was able to manage yogurt. I'm now almost 4 weeks out and was able to manage most of 2 scrambled eggs.
just take it slow and easy, listen to your belly. If it goes on more than 2 weeks, let your MD know...

Good luck getting a US MD to follow you after surgery. You will need frequent lab testing, like every 3 months in the first year to check on deficiencies. Then there is nutritional counseling if your having problems. At my surgeon's office, you will pay a $500 transfer fee to get to see him which insurance doesn't pay and every NUT visit is $60. I see my NUT every month and I have access to her by email daily. I'm confident there are good surgeons in Mexico..... but its the aftercare that will keep you successful....imho.

A real easy way is to have some diabetic candy. It is loaded with Sorbitol which provide a 'laxative' effect. You have to figure out how much you need. If your sensitive to sugar alcohols it won't take long. Mag Citrate.... Oh, I gag at the thought...... Also, I you like tea....Smooth Move or 'dieters Tea' has senna in it. Usually works over night. Be sure you're drinking Water

Oh YES! I had surgery 3 weeks ago on 8/28. I usually feel it when I've eaten something that my stomach just doesn't like. It only takes one bite. I think I keep it filled with Water most of the time so I have yet to really the experience of empty.

Surgery 3 weeks ago today - down 19 lbs and moving to soft foods tomorrow.Question: Any of you August sleevers (3 - 4 weeks out) still having pain around incisions on your right side? It is strictly muscle wall pain - very' date=' very sharp and painful when I get up from bed or chair, or even walking at brisk pace. Sometimes sharp stabbing in that same vicinity while doing nothing at all.[/quote']
The pain there is where your surgeon pulled out the remnant stomach. That is the one that takes the longest to heal, and it does feel like a stabbing pain. He also does most of the work out of that site. The trochanter is larger.

I had surgery 3 weeks ago. I was in the hospital one day and went back to work, a desk job, one week later. Transitioning from sitting to standing and vice versa was rough and getting out of bed, but other than that the pain/ discomfort was very manageable. Tylenol was adequate 3 days later,. This was my 4th abdominal surgery. One was open and the other 2 laparoscopic. This was a piece of cake comparatively.

Just had my first taste of Alaskan salmon I cooked on the grill. It was only 3 ounces, but it was awesome!

The unflavored Protein was my life saver post-op. I used the Unjury, although I understand the Isopure at GNC is also good. I mixed it with Jello, Crystal Light, broth and pureed Soup. I get tired of the sweetness and aftertaste in the shakes. I also ate (still eat) a lot of Plain Greek Yogurt that I add stevia and vanilla extract. You can also use the Mio or any of the squirt Water enhancers to flavor the yogurt. One cup is 21 grams of protein. I was amazed how much my taste buds changed after surgery and what went down easily pre-op just didn't have the same appeal post-op. The Unjury chicken soup (broth like) was also great. With the variety of tastes I'm able to get my 60 grams of protein in per day.

I'm week three and had no problem with shrimp. Be careful with imitation crab....look at the ingredients and nutrition profile. It has things in there we shouldn't be eating. Stick with "real" food.< /p>

He also did mine. I've been very happy with him, the staff and the entire experience. I'm seeing him today for my 1month follow up.
