    For Distance Runners

Hi all. My half marathon training group started up this morning. Two miles... I walked most as I'm 3 weeks post op and it felt great. This will be my first half as a sleever and I'm wondering if you have to do anything different regarding pre run food... Etc. have you had to change anything/increase anything to stay hydrated or nutrition wise. I was nervous about food so didn't eat anything before. I used to drink a coffee before my runs as it gave me a nice boost but post surgery, coffee doesn't even sound good. I used to do Peanut Butter on toast... I will try that next weekend unless anyone has a suggestion. I just learned about those lovely little Nunn tablets this week and plan to replace my Gatorade with those and save several hundred wasted calories. I have weird hip/pelvis soreness that turns painful as the runs increase so I'm praying as I lose weight, that will decrease. Anyone use C4 or Spark? Running in TX in the summer is redonkulous!!!!!!!!!!!! My sweat even sweats. Thanks in advance for advice.

    Whats with all this saliva?

I had excess saliva for about 4 days post op. then it stopped. Good luck! Mine was not foam or slime.
  4. I have a billion sick leave days so I've taken 2.5 weeks. Could have gone back earlier, but I'm enjoying the break as well as getting used to all the new sleeve things.
  5. Funny how we all get different answers. My dr told me mine looked like a yeast infection. It's at every incision site. Benadryl not helping. Going to try probiotics and see how that affects it.

    Is this normal? HELP!

You are NOT a failure Aggie. You are a lovely human, who is being tested greatly at the moment. You are soooo close! It's okay to cry. Some of the chatter you must ignore.... You are the only person familiar with your exact situation. Dry your eyes sweets and go drink some yummy Water... lol... (It stinks post op too! Once you transition to mush/soft, you will be so proud of yourself!) You are stronger than you think you are. How do you swim the ocean? Just keep swimming.... Just keep swimming. Aggie love, Crazypants

    TMI

LilB, Yes. Me as well. Just saw my doc today about allergic reaction to steri strips and mentioned I take anti-diarrheal once a week. He said that was fine and as I moved to non-liquid foods, the problem would correct itself.

    Is this normal? HELP!

Hey sweet Aggie, It DOES get better. I won't sugarcoat... The point that it does get better is different for everyone. I'm only 12 days out and now that I'm getting to start introducing food again... I'm more at peace with things. My dr didn't require a severe preop like yours... So I hurt for you. What gets better is you controlling the food issue... Not it controlling you. Minor slips are not going to tank this. Just get back on your wagon and do the best you can. SIX MORE DAYS. YOU GOT THIS.

    why am i so hungry

Molly! I'm having an acid issue... My Prilosec says only take 1 per day but I need more. Today was my first day to take 2. Makes me feel better to see you have the same issue! Good luck sleeve sister.
  11. Is your Iron okay? I was so exhausted so took someone's advice on here and took an iron supplement... Woke up the next morning completely refreshed! Wishing you luck and energy!
  12. I have severeeeeeee hormonal issues. I won't even get into it. lol My constant body temp has been so bad the past few months that I literally would jump in the shower just to cool my body temp down. That was the FIRST thing I noticed when I came out if surgery. No hot crazy stuff!!! I'm only a week out but stoked at the improvement thus far. Also, have a friend that was sleeved 5 months ago and she no longer has hot flashes!!! Go us!!!
  13. I'm only a week out. Felt incredible day 1-3 and after that just wasn't feeling right, each day got worse. Day 6 was miserable!!! More liquid didn't help. More sleep didn't help. More Protein didn't help. THANK YOU to the sleever that posted something that I stored in my memory for some reason... I can't recall who you are or what post but you saved my life. I took an Iron pill last night and woke up feeling amazing again. I took the other half tonight and felt even more improvement! Better mood, more energy, and looking at life with hopeful eyes again! Sweet dreams everyone!! Woohooooo.....
  14. Hi Rebecca, I just ran to check the bottle... 50 mg. Random grocery store brand and it was even expired.. lol. I was out of options and just tried for the sake of trying it. My dr and NUTs never mentioned Iron specifically. I know my body rather well so was comfortable taking it. Good luck! I hope it helps you too! Fingers crossed for you! (My multi only has 18mg as well). My other factors that helped the low iron.... It was TOM when I had surgery. Then I've also had.... Ahem.... Liquid bathroom issues (2 days, now stopped) so not keeping good stuff in me. :/

Surgery day--what to take with me?

I wore tshirt and stretchy pants. I put underwear and pants on when I came out of surgery to feel better. I took Chapstick because I hate having dry lips. Took my favorite blanket because the "towels" they call blankets in our area hospitals are ridiculous. Took my bed pillow too. Took toothpaste/toothbrush so I could brush teeth (rinse mouth) since so many complained of dry mouth. The best thing I took??? Lol.... Ear plugs to not wake up when someone walked in my room! I got lots of sleep thanks to those little suckers. I took baby wipes and deodorant too. I couldn't take a bath... But when it's your TOM, it's nice to clean up!! Along with phone/charger... Everything fit nicely in my little bag. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Does your sleeve have a name?

Hysterical. You all crack me up.
  18. Hi Tee808, That's my favorite area code!!! Assume you're from there? At the end of the day it's YOUR choice. Everyone reacts so differently to these surgeries. I had the band for 5 years and it worked fine early on. The past year was awful... Band would completely close off and I would vomit on my own spit. Incredibly painful and you're at the mercy of "is your band dr available to see you" to take fill out so you can stop puking and get food down. We travel a lot and if dr is out of town and "on call" dr doesn't want to see you, you're sent to the ER, where they have NO CLUE what you need, so you have to educate them.... "Use X drug to numb the port site, use X size needle to take out the Fluid, count to 10 and put the fluid back in." Been to the ER three times in the last 6 months and we were done. ER visits are expensive and time off work to "baby" the band was making me cranky. I am talking violent, projectile vomit that could do internal damage if not stopped. I lost weight. I gained it back. I could eat whatever I wanted, meat too... Lol. Never heard THAT before! You are NOT hungry all the time with the band but again, everyone has a different experience. I chose the band because at the time (2008) drs felt it was a good option, it seemed safer but if I could save the money, time, and pain I would choose the sleeve. My dr has done a lot of band to sleeve revisions and has only done ONE BAND in the last year! All surgeries have risks. I would encourage you to visit the Band Revision To Sleeve Forum to see WHY people who once said yes to the band are now saying yes to the sleeve. I do have one friend who has been successful with her band. But so much exercising and no body fat caused her port to hurt her. She never had fills, the band was restriction enough (not the norm), so she just had the port taken out. We are all here if you have other questions! Good luck with the big decision. BTW, oddly, my sleeve surgery was easier than the band. Cray cray.
  19. I wish you luck with this and hope he comes around because you ARE WORTH IT and if he doesn't, I hope you are strong enough to be with someone who deserves you.

    Nothing I Eat Tastes Good

So interesting! I'm 5 days out and always enjoyed my cup of coffee in the morning. I tried it today... Took 3 tiny sips and threw it out. Just doesn't taste the same. This is simply fascinating!
