I started gaining weight when I was around 30 and now have reached 58, gaining about 5 or more pounds each year. I always thought, oh I'll find the right diet, pill, exercise regime, etc., but you know the story lost many; pounds and the gained many more. I started developing comorbidities (high blood pressure - sometimes extremely high-, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, dangerously close to diabetes). So I got a referral to a bariatric specialist and at first I thought I wanted to do lap band. Then I went online and read about all the failures, etc. with lap band and my doctor wanted me to consider the bypass, but I have microscopic colitis and my gastoenterologist didn't think this was the best choice for me. So my doctor and I decided the sleeve would be my best choice. Everything has gone very smoothly - as you can see my initial appt was in the middle of April and my surgery is scheduled for July 9th. I am excited to live a lighter and healthier life. With colitis I can't eat lots of fat or rich foods, so this should be the perfect tool to help guide my food choices.
