  1. I appreciate the positive threads but my journey thus far has been pretty bad. I'm 3 days post-opp and trying to hold on to the belief that I won't regret this down the road but today has been hard. I can't relate to those that say they had little pain and didn't feel hungry. I'm hungry, chicken broth makes me gag and so do the Protein Shakes. Am I alone?

I am 1week 2 days post op. I too had pain, however, it is so much better now. I am however HUNGRY! Wth? I too am confused. The nurse just said try to "eat" 5 times a day... The Protein shakes make me gag as well, therefor hurts my stomach. Also, it's a little depressing - especially the hunger!!

  2. I figure we didn't get to the point of needing surgery by having a delicate tummy... ;) I started soft foods at 12 days instead of waiting for my 2-week appt and being "okayed" - I was HUNGRY, damn it. And I ate really wet soupy stewed chicken, which was definitely a "soft food". Tolerated it well. And my surgeon was like "cool then go for it." I still have a lot of head-hunger, I suspect it'll never really go away.

So how are you doing now? Thank you so much for sharing!

  3. Oh honey I felt HUNGRY hungry too. Your body is starving! It's ok. Sip Protein Shakes if you can, and try some sugar free Jello. I'd be all RAWR IMMA EAT EVERYTHING and I couldn't finish ONE jello cup. It helped me feel better that I really wasn't gonna overeat beyond my sleeve. When you start foods you'll feel better!!

Aw, thank you! That's exactly how I feel! I've had a little anxiety about thinking it might not ever go away... Lol. One hour at a time.

  4. I had to change my reflux medication from protonix to Dexilant. That helped me a lot. Another thing I figured out early on was my thirst masqueraded as hunger, and in fact, it still does. You are quite early post -op, so you are probably both hungry and thirsty. Give yourself more time. Good luck!

    Thank you!

  5. Don't lose the plot just yet. If you're anything like me, you're going to feel weak for a good few weeks until you hit solids. Then, the game changes entirely. You can eat real food, with real calories and real nutrition and you WILL feel much much better. When this happens, you can eat your healthy dense Protein and feel good and satiated. In fact, when you first try it out it will sit like a brick and then you'll be wondering 'oh crap, so that's what they did to my stomach!' Try not to focus on it right now. You're hungry, malnourished, with hormones raging. Consequently and in these next four weeks you will feel intense highs and intense lows. Okay, so the dice didn't fall in the 'no hunger' camp. However, you won the lottery on the small stomach front. It will work for you. Have a bit of patience and a little bit of faith. ;) All the best

Thank you Madam! How encouraging. I forget about the whole hormone thing. I will settle down and be patient!

  6. You're not alone. I was bloody starving - and still am. I eat, exactly 2-2.5 hours later, I could chew the ****** ****** of a scabby cat. Some people have this - some people don't. Thems the breaks. Try and sip more Protein Shakes to ease the deficit.

I'm like really pissed about this!! I'm not sure at who or what. It seriously concerns me!!

  7. I too am being sleeved on the 5th, and your number in your name is my oldest daughters birthday :-) Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing as soon as you can. My bag had been packed since December.

Wow! I just saw this!! My sleeve date got pushed to the 26th :-(. I'm now on pre op day 4...how are you doing? How are you feeling??? Oh... Those numbers in my name are my sons birthday too!!

  8. I am not sure about pre op. I stuck to the directions on the canister. I just mixed fusion bariatric Protein Powder with the almond milk and a couple ice cubes to add thickness. I had surgery Feb. 3rd so I am like 11 days post op. I am doing pretty good thanks for asking. I had a bad day today. Nothing was sitting well except Water. I am still extremely fatigued but I have one more week off for a total of 3 weeks. Its hard to catch up on rest since I have a three year old who is a boss. :D

I'm def worried about the fatigue! Bless your heart... I'm sure this is difficult with a toddler. How much have you lost?

  9. I was sleeved with Dr Gibbs 6/4/10. 110 pounds down3 1/2 years later. Love Dr Gibbs but not much support other than office visits. Of course, I was one of first VSGs for him. Might be different now. I still see him annually and like him a lot!

I'm so glad to hear that. I don't even see him until the day before surgery. Thanks!

  10. Just make your own out of low fat or fat free greek yogurt. It has over 20g Protein per cup and you can add all types of goodness to them. If you need suggestions on what to put in them I can help with that too. Also.... what are you using to mix with it? My go to is Unsweetened Almond Milk (non flavored).

I'm assuming that would hold true for pre op as well? When was your surgery and how are you doing?

  11. Well all I think this is for real. Saw the surgeon for the consult today & I'm scheduled for 2/26/14. No pre-op testing or procedures need to be done. He is accepting all of that from 2 years ago. I'm going to be self-pay & get a discount for being a hospital employee. Start my pre-op diet tomorrow. YEAH! This is really really happening. I can't believe it.

Hey! We have the same surgery date!! I too start my pre op tomorrow and a little nervous!! So what is your pantry/fridge stocked with? What kind of Protein Shakes have you chosen? Hope we can cheer each other on!!! ????

  12. I will be starting my pre-op diet (10 days) on Saturday. However, in addition to the Protein Shakes and crystal lite, etc. I am allowed a lean Protein and a serving of vegetables every day until the 24 hours before surgery. I don't know how I will do. I am definitely worried about shakes, dizziness and that hypoglycemic feeling I can get when I don't eat enough. I have to be able to function at work! I appreciate the post-op people saying it is worth it. Good luck, you are not alone!

Is your pre-op only 10 days??

  13. How long did it take you? I go to info meeting tomorrow.

Well I decided in June this is what I wanted. I had to save for my portion of the cost. I'm guessing had I been ready from the start it would have taken 4-6 weeks to get scheduled. I guess it depends on insurance requirements etc. I paid

My portion on Monday and got scheduled today.

  14. Congratulations!! Very exciting news! Mine was 1-13 (Monday) and I am home now. There was one time when the thought "what have I done!?" crossed my mind while I was still in the hospital but now that I am home there's no doubt in my mind I did the right thing. I'm probably nuts for thinking this, but on the drive away from the hospital my husband asked me what I was thinking and I said it felt strange to leave a piece of my body that has been with me my entire life behind. The only other time I've been hospitalized was to have my daughter and of course when we drove away that time I had my wonderful baby to bring home with me. I think a lot of it was just fatigue and screwy emotions mixed with the pain meds and everything else. Now that I've had a full night's sleep and am on a more regular schedule I'm so excited for this next phase of my life. I already feel lighter and more positive about my life in general. Great decision for me for sure!

Thank you for that! I wish you all the best. Look forward to keeping up with you!
