    Gas

Mine was bad last night and not moving. I paced in my room during commercials, took 2 gas x strips, some milk of mag, and a heating pad for about 20 min on my tummy at low - it was slow, but it worked miracles. Also, when laying in bed rotate from side to side rather than laying flat. I'm 12 days post op and it has not stopped yet. Today's goal - get the bowels actually moving. I was going fine until 4 days ago. I have been wobbling all around my house today to walk, drinking water, and taking stool softeners. Nothing! Just pulled out the weapon of coffee and Miralax - so I will see. Can't wait for things to get back to normal - as normal as it can be.

    me and protein don't mix

I boiled a skinless chicken breast in some chicken broth and added just one tbs of cream. I take a small amount each day and purée it in the blender - best thing ever. I have also added a boiled potato and spinach and puréed as well. Taste like a chicken pot pie - but I can only get about 4 bites in so the fat and cho's are too low to be harmful. I'm a diabetic educator - so have some background in nutrition. I also found an already made shake called "Rocking Refuel" that is my savior. I buy the chocolate that is 190 calories and 30 gms of protein per 12 oz serving. Amazing! It is made with with milk protein rather than whey so doesn't have a chalky protein taste at all. Google them for their website to find a retailer near you. They are by the chocolate milk at my grocery store. The Vanilla and Strawberry are amazing as well - but lower protein and higher calories. If I'm really struggling, I will have half of one though. Haven't tried it yet, but the brand Silk that makes soy and almond milk has a new juice with protein. And last - there is a drink called Kefir - it is really just liquid yogurt. There are flavored ones and plain which you could add half a banana to for a smoothie. Kefir is gluten and lactose free - which is nice. It is usually in the organic dairy section at the grocery store. Hope this helps!

    No energy

Hey, I am a nurse as well. Please be careful to not over do it - even if you feel great in the morning. I was sleeved on 6/12/13 and felt good at the end of week one - so I went out for some errands with my mom. Bad decision! :/ I have had to get IV fluids twice since then for dehydration. First I slept too much recovering and got behind. Yesterday I had a strange day of nausea and weakness - no home treatments working and couldn't get anything in. Spent the evening in the ER last night - lol. Always nice for a nurse to explain how she can't physically be a compliant patient. I had no nausea this whole time until yesterday. Took zofran and regland to get it controlled. Phenergan knocks me out for 2 days and I need to stay up to drink. Lol! I thought after everything, I would be the one walking 30 min a day first day home. At this time, I am reduced to laps around my downstairs and pacing in my bedroom. Today I feel like a new person - but terrified of a replay of yesterday. Considering asking for an order for PT to get me going - I was 100% physically normal before surgery and am 32 yo. Also considering asking for 3 days of some bid LR infusions at home. Makes me sound wimpy - but never expected a recovery like this. From one nurse to another - take it easy and know you are not alone in feeling exhausted.
  4. This is really hard. I am feeling so rough - don't know what to do. I was sleeved on 6/12 and my recovery has been improving each day until yesterday. Yesterday i was feeling pretty weak and severely fatigued. i called the nurse practioner and she said to load up on calories and just rest, as I had made trips outside of the home 2 days in a row. I drank a higher calorie protein shake and some V-8 and felt much better. Today I woke up feeling weak again. I have gotten things down today, but still feel so weak. I can walk downstairs but then have to come right back to lay down. What else do you think I could try? I'm so afraid of having a complication or something bad. I have had a protein coffee shake, Gatorade, cream of potato puréed soup, and now sipping on another protein shake. Oh and I had a yogurt and fruit smoothie. So what could this be? I have also taken my normal daily meds, vitamins, and sipping on water outside of the meal times. I want to go walk but fear I don't have enough physical energy to make it. I can tell I am mildly dehydrated (I'm a nurse - crazy I should know these things) but not dehydrated enough to feel this weak. Sometimes when I get up, I am even a little clammy or have a hot flash. I don't have any medical conditions and all of my bloodwork has been normal. 1 week until my first post op appt. Any one else have/had this? Advice is welcomed! Thanks!

    Chafing

I use this as my make up primer also ha ha! Good ol' Pinterest. It's the same as the 60 dollar primer I was using prior.

    Chafing

Definitely have it reported at your md office for insurance purposes. You could try some diaper rash cream as this creates a bit of a barrier to protect the skin from the moisture from the sweat. Also - I think it is Monistat that has a new line of female products and there is a chafing gel - it would need to be reapplied during the day though. If there is any way to protect it with some cotton fabric, this will help also. Good luck - I know that is uncomfortable.

    Hunger

So thankful to see I am not the only one. I was sleeved on the 12th and today I am craving everything in sight - but no true hunger feelings. I do occasionally get like an empty gut feeling, but I sip on something and it subsides. Yesterday and today, I tried some soup and frozen yogurt (yogurt allowed on my full liquid post op diet) but after like 3 bites, I got these severe stomach cramp feeling that quickly disappears. So I stop and feel satisfied for a while. Anyone experience this crazy stomach pains like 5-10 seconds after swallowing something? Off to fantasize about bread, pasta, and chocolate....
  8. I am 3 days post op and felt the same today. I am working on small sips, but really have no problem with drinking or getting shakes in. My full liquid diet for 2 weeks also allows for pudding and yogurt. I was feeling like there was something wrong, as I ate about 6 oz of tomato soup for dinner with no issues. Not having hunger pains, but makes me nervous that I will be able to consume too easily as the diet progresses. Glad to see I am not alone. I am also in VA and plan on going to the local support group for tips and information.
  9. I started a week ago today. The whole weekend prior I was depressed and called it food mourning. I even cried about it. Once I started, the sadness subsided and I felt excited again. It was helpful to focus on the fact that I will still be able to have a bite or small amount of any food in the future, once healed and tolerating foods better. Of course I won't be splurging on milkshakes and popcorn (2 of my favorites) - I know that if I want to - I can taste them again one day. Hoping over time I won't have any desire to though.
