  1. I can understand back out once, it is normal. You said you backed out 3 times. I would encourage you to really write on paper ALL the reasons you want to do this, and all the positives that can come out of it, and review it everyday and add to it. The reason I say this is because if you've backed out several times, it sounds like you are going to need some concrete reasons, that you can put into words, and be an anchor to keep you from backing out a fourth time. I wish you the best of luck!!

  2. It kinda sounds like you already have a good handle on whats going on. It's just the mental battle now. That is one of the reasons we tell folks who are pre-op, that it will not help head hunger or making wrong decisions. I wish you the best of luck in changing your decision for the better. The well known advice for snacking is to keep them out of the house, and the grocery cart. Those little Special K chips like the Kettle Corn and Sea Salt and such, are the worst for snacking, because for about 27 chips its only like 120 cals or so, and so it gives me good excuse to eat em and still feel like I'm doing good! I had to keep them out the house to be safe. Take care.

  3. If you haven't already, make sure you schedule all your appointments for psych as early as possible. Usually they take a bit to get in with them, plus it may take couple weeks for the psychologist to write up his report and get it to your surgeons office. It can be an unexpected delay that most folks don't think about. Usually once all your paper work is submitted, it can take the insurance company a couple days to several weeks to approve. Mine took an entire month for an approval. Good luck to you!!!

  4. I've always been under the impression that weight loss and muscle building didn't go together. I would say go with cardio and muscle toning (light weights, high reps). Then once you get close to goal, then you can go back to focusing on muscle building.

You may be right, i think im going to cut wayyyy back on lifting and replace most with cardio. Ill wait until i get to goal and then i will get back to lifting.

  5. Hey friends, I am 5 months out from VSG surgery. I just recently, for the past 4 months, have been lifting pretty heavy. The issue is, that I have stalled to 1 pound lost in last month. Has anyone actually lifted weights, and saw a continual decrease in lbs?

My calories daily are around 1300. The way I figure it, I HAVE to have the calories to replenish the muscles, but I don't want to consume too many. According to the calculator for Basic metabolic rate for someone my age and lifestyle, I would need 1500-1800 cals just to allow my body to function with its core requirements, like breathing, heartbeat, digestion, etc. Obviously I'm not going to go that high with calories, but I also know it takes calories to build muscle. I'm kind of stuck in this thought pattern. Some have suggested just doing cardio, but I have lost so much muscle tone, and maybe that's just the nature of this journey until maintenance, idk. Anyways, your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

    Adam

  6. Ha! ME ME ME! I have been on these forums for months watching folks ask for june sleevers, then july, august, etc. i kept thinking to myself that one of these days i will get to jump in and say ME. So, today is that day. Being sleeved November 5th!!!

    Getting sleeved in Warrensburg, Missouri.

It took about one month from when my file was sent to insurance to approval. I started this whole process on may of 2013 this year

  7. Wow. You may already have ur mind made up it sounds like. You said he was lazy but none of us go into this surgery because we are super active. Be careful calling his faults out especially if you have them too. You have made a decision but he hasnt ...yet. This kinda makes me think there are deeper issues than just being lazy while you get fit. Talk with him bout it and try to read between the lines. It isnt wasy for us men to open up and say we are big fat and nasty and that we feel like we are too far behind to do anything about it. :) you need to find out what happens well after your surgery and give the man time to respond before you think bout leaving and stuff.

  8. I searched for MMSI when I was first researching WLS options. I wanted some information regarding their requirements and turnaround time' date=' but I couldn't find anything. I've since been approved and want to share my experience.

My particular plan covers 90% since my provider is in-network. There is no coverage for out-of-network. The requirements for coverage are to have a BMI over 40 or a BMI over 35 with one co morbidity, complete a psych evaluation, and attend behavior modification group. There was no supervised diet requirement.

My paperwork was submitted by my doctor's office on July 31st, 2013. I received my approval on August 8th, 2013.[/quote']

    Good luck to you

  9. We are asked to wait at least 6 months. Two reasons: (1) avoud alcohol's irritating effects on your new stomach, and (2) avoid transferring your 'addiction' from food to alcohol. That said, 'one' won't kill you.

Very true, unless one become two! ...and so on :) Tread softly OP.

  10. I like to ride bicycles on long trips. I like to mix a little noxema and vaseline together. Lasts for a long time, pretty inexpensive and no chaffing. At least give it a try. It doesnt take much. Good luck

  11. Hi Ashlee:

You CAN do it. You have to commit. Get yourself in the best possible shape for your surgery. You will have a lot to deal with post-op' date=' do you want to add NOT being prepared on top of it? Trust in what your surgeon has asked you to do and do it. This is not a punishment, it is an opportunity (http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/78443-the-pre-op-diet-is-not-a-punishment-its-an-opportunity/) This is one of my favorite things I've read here and one that is so very true.

Take control now. Don't accept "I can't" just because you haven't be able to before. You said it yourself that after surgery you can do it, do it now... do it for you.

Why would you even tempt this effecting surgery at this late stage of this. Come on Ashlee. I believe you can, YOU have to believe it too.

AGREE!! You can do this! You have fought hard to get to this point plus you lose weight during it. A nice reward
