I thought a low BMI started around 30. I have talked to two doctors and both said I needed to have a BMI of at least 30 in order to have the sleeve. Now I realize in the "real" world this is not a low BMI but on this forum it would be. I guess we understand that a low BMI is the lowest BMI you could have in order to qualify for surgery.

I talked to someone in my flex benefits plan today and was told that I would have to pay for my surgery up front and then they would reimburse me once I turned in my receipt, even if the surgery was in Mexico. So I have at least $2500 in my account and I will have to pay out of pocket for the rest. Not too bad.

That is great! That is exactly what size I am now and I can't wait until I am a size 12!

Congratulations! I will be sending prayers your way.

I have a low BMI and I really want to have this surgery in February. The problem is that my husband is very much against it. He says I can lose weight without surgery. I told him he was right! I can lose weight but I can't keep it off! I have lost the same 50 pounds over and over again. I am so tired of losing weight and gaining weight and feeling ashamed for gaining it back.

Well I have heard there are several companies that are actually based here in the U.S. but the surgeries are performed in Mexico. I suppose I need to talk with my someone with my benefits plan to see if this would be acceptable.

I am a school teacher and I have a flex benefit plan. In January I will have 2500 dollars on my Visa card. I wanted to use this to pay for some of my surgery and I would way out of pocket for the remaining amount. Has anyone used their benefits to help pay for their surgery?

Thank you so much for that very informative post! I am considering surgery with "A Lighter Me" and I actually spoke to them today before I read your post. After reading all of your information, I feel like I know exactly what to expect. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

I am trying to make a decision about what doctor to use and I am so confused , even after reading many threads. I was thinking about Dr. Cabera in Tijuana, Dr. Gilberto Gonzalez in Guadalajara, or Dr.Illan with Baja Bariatrics. I am just wondering what your experiences are . I appreciate any advice I can get . This whole process has been very frustrating and I really need to just make a decision on a Dr. and move forward.

Thank you for all the great information. I was hoping to spend no more than $6000 for my surgery. This is what I have saved already. Hopefully I can find a facility that is on the up and up and will fit into my price range.

Thank you so much for your help! I am from a very small town as well so I am very nervous about all of this. I am glad to hear good things about Tijuna.I have to admit I was not even going to consider having surgery there but you have given me something to think about now.
..congratulations on your surgery

Hi everyone, I live near Atlanta ,Ga. I have decided to have a gastric sleeve in Mexico.I am a school teacher and have United Healthcare Ins, but they won' t cover any weight loss procedures on our school system's policy so I will have to self pay. Since I live close to Atlanta I need to find the best place to go in Mexico with a good price...yes money is a factor...I know my health is important but being a teacher I have to consider price...any information would be greatly appreciated.
