    Instagram :)

Hey everyone! I know I'm late to the conversation, but my instagram is caitlin_christiana. It's not entirely vsg-related, but I post lots of photos related to my weight-loss journey.
  2. I don't know if this is just me or if others notice the same, but it seems that I get fuller much more quickly when eating out compared to when I make my meals. Not that I can eat much to begin with anymore, but even after a couple bites at a restaurant, I begin to feel the restriction and fullness. Anyone else notice a difference?
  3. I'll probably have a few bites of everything, and stop once my tummy tells me to-trying to focus on the protein. I'll probably share a small slice of pie with my mom who is also sleeved. It's just me and my parents this year and we're going out to a nice restaurant so I don't have to worry about having to explain to people who don't know about the surgery why I'm eating so little.

    May sleevers results so far!

Sleeved May 21st, 2013. Surgery weight: 294 Current weight: 229 (Been stalled for a couple weeks) I'm trying to make it as close to Onderland by New Years as I can!
  5. I'm 23 and had my surgery just over 5 months ago. I believe it's difficult for others who don't live with the problems and frustrations of being overweight understand that surgery is our way of reclaiming our lives and taking control of our health. I tried many diets and exercise routines and lost and regained the same 15 pounds for years. I believe having the surgery at this time in your life is a good idea. I will say that one thing I wish I had prepared myself a bit more on is how much life changes after the surgery. It is a lifetime commitment. I also didn't understand how people could be depressed or have rough patches after getting the sleeve, but now I do.

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess that... I still mostly see myself as I looked pre-surgery. I compare myself to people having better progress. I don't give myself enough credit for what I have achieved (as proven by the first two confessions). I do give into cravings sometimes. I drink pop and Starbucks every so often. Not nearly as much as I used to, though. I think about food and eating more than I should. I need to be more strict in making sure I get in all of my water and protein everyday. Sometimes I wish that I can keep eating after my stomach tells me to stop. I am too focused on weighing myself and the number on the scale. I'm afraid that I won't reach my goal.
  7. Hi I was sleeved May 21st and started off at 302 before pre-op diet. Day of surgery I weighed 294, and today I weigh 238. I feel like a slow loser compared to other people whom I've seen who have lost that much in less time, which makes me feel discouraged. I also have a difficult time getting in all my water and protein but I'm trying to get back on track. It's a bit scary when the weight loss starts to slow down from what I was used to in the early days. I'm thinking of trying to give my body a jumpstart by going back on the pre-op diet/liquids for a few days. I really want to hit Onderland!
  8. I can't have fast food anymore. It's like my stomach knows I shouldn't have it and sort of shuts down. A couple times I was desperate for some protein so I got a burger from McDonalds, and a couple bites in I couldn't stomach it. (ha!) It made me feel just overall gross, and gave me a heachache.
  9. Is there anyone here who uses Instagram to post updates and photos of their progress? I love checking the #vsg, #verticalsleeve #vsginstacrew, and other hashtags to get motivated by people's success and to see their awesome progress. My username is caitlin_christiana, and I also post many update photos.
  10. Starting weight before pre-op diet: 305 Day of surgery weight (May 21st): 294 Current weight: 239
  11. The most awkward thing about eating out socially is when someone doesn't know that I've had the surgery and they notice how little I've eaten. I've been out with people I'm not close enough to to want to share that I've had weight loss surgery be very concerned with the fact that I didn't eat much. Others didn't know and kept giving me food and I had to kindly decline and explain that I couldn't eat anymore, which they didn't really understand.
  12. Finally down to the 230's! Now I need to get back on track with tracking my food and lowering my carbs.

  13. I stay away from fast food, but if I'm going to a sit-down restaurant, I usually try to order something high protein--mostly chicken or beef every so often. I've also begun sharing dishes with people which I never enjoyed doing pre-sleeve.

  16. The longest stall I've experienced last about 3 1/2 weeks. It was three months after my surgery and I was so discouraged and thought that I would not lose any more weight. Finaly it broke, and now I'm just under 5 months out and have lost 60 pounds.

  18. I have PCOS and I noticed that my first two periods after surgery were unusuallly heavy.
  19. I've been fluctuating the same few pounds over the last week or so. Going back and forth on the scale. I just want to finally hit the 240's!

    Non Scale Victory

I went jogging yesterday for the first time in awhile and I suprised myself at how much my stamina has increased since losing weight. I was able to push myself and go longer than before!
  21. I've officially hit the 50 pound weight loss mark! So happy!

  22. I enjoy reading everyone's posts on the forum and seeing people's experiences and progress but I'm still a little new here. I am 23 and was sleeved just under a month ago. I wanted to find more people around my age who have also been sleeved or are considering/planning on being sleeved. I'm interested in hearing about your experiences, sharing goals, etc.
  23. I had a stall that lasted 3 weeks and it was frustrating. Part of it was that I made some bad food decisions. But to break it, I went back to basics and ate like I did on my pre-op diet and drank more protein shakes and water. And once it ended, I started losing again quickly- 10 pounds in 8 days! Hope it ends soon!
  24. I've been trying my hardest to get in my required amount of protein and liquids each day, but lately it's been either or, and I'm out of town so my routine is really out of sorts. I also forgot to take my vitamins the last couple days which all combined really made my body upset. Long story short, early Sunday morning I got up to take some medication for my foot that I pulled a muscle in. Once I got to the bathroom I began to feel nauseous and I thought I was going to vomit. In my head I wasn't sure why, maybe it was something I ate the night before, I didn't know. I sat down on the toilet to wait it out when I all of a sudden felt very flushed and hot. The next thing I know I am waking up on the floor after passing out and hitting my head on the tile floor. I had to go to the ER to get a drip. The doctor believed it was a combination of dehydration, and a lack of nutrients/protein from eating less and possibly low iron. He said my body is still probably catching up to my new way of life post surgery. I learned the hard (and painful) way of the importance of getting BOTH enough liquids and protein, and not to skip your vitamins!
