    July 2013 sleevers

LOL you guys! haha. Well, come to think of it my husband actually gave my future sleeve a name a few days back lol. I haven't really thought about it till I came on here and read all the posts haha but thats so awesome you guys are naming them lol. The only bad thing about "my" name is that it is totally "pun intended" BUT the pun is only understandable in another language (my second language = Punjabi). So that just sucks all over the place. lol basically the punjabi word "Nikki" directly translates to teeny tiny in english so my husband calls it "Nikki Sleevaj" (Nicki Minaj lol). Not that clever if you don't speak the language but meh. LOL. Ah well, according to hubby it fits since I sound like a "dungeon dragon" all the time running around the house always yelling and breathing fire at everyone who has the misfortune of crossing my path.

    Ramadan & First Year Sleeve

Nor does Allah (swt) want you to harm your body. The purpose of fasting is first and foremost for Him (swt) as ibadah but He (swt) also required it for us because it serves a major purpose towards the betterment of our health! Allah (swt) loves you too much to let you harm yourself to prove yourself to him, thus the reason for exemptions and the various ways to make your fasts up. I am getting sleeved on the 25th of July and inshallah plan on preparing meals/or donating money towards the meals for the fasting at our local mosque to make up for my missed days. Allah (swt) loves us all so much, it's amazing to see the various ways he has given us to make up for our responsibilities, even in Salat etc. What I'm getting at is, don't get over-worried about it. He (swt) knows the truth, and it is for these such reasons he has given such exemptions and ways to make up for the missed days and such. You're only 6-months out. I don't think fasting for much of the day is suggested because there is no healthy way you would be able to make up you're Protein and Fluid intake in the short time from dusk to dawn, as you will be sleeping for much of that time anyways and you will end up stretching you're stomach attempting to stuff enough protein laden items within it in that short time frame before your fast starts again. Dehydration is another health risk which will only make things worse even at it's lowest levels. If you become even slightly dehydrated during the day, you will risk losing your appetite, become overly nauseous and throwing up among many other symptoms which can easily lead you directly or indirectly in the ER. You do not want that! Nor does He (swt) want that from his devoted believers! Don't become too worried (As I did) over your fasting. Inshallah the efforts you make to make up for it will be rewarded as much as fasting for the full month of Ramadan, if not more for your efforts despite your health! Islam has always kept your health first! Allah knows best! Good luck! Inshallah you'll do just fine!

I swallowed a piece of him

You're not the only one! Haha! Anyways, I think you should be fine with the gum. You're stomach is still good at digesting, only thing you've limited was the "fitting" aspect of it, so if it were a problem you would have had it come out one way or another by now. Just try be careful lol. (I've done it before though haha....no avoiding it. That stuff is slippery!)

Have you tried chewing ice (like crushed ice?). That always helped when I needed something to eat but wasn't allowed during my inductions with the boys.

July 25th here! Flying in to San Diego International and arriving in TJ, MX on the 24th! Fully stoked! Recording EVERYTHING lol, short of the "actual operation" (but will ask my surgeon one more time....have to try ). And Vlogging/blogging as much as possible!
  7. Oh definitely! I'll be posting my highly unflattering before pics on my blog along with my measurements taken approximately 3 days pre-op, (before leaving for Mi Doctor Hospital in TJ). PLUS. I'll be vlogging the entire of my time spent there for the procedure as to not only capture every little detail in living memory for myself, but will be adding small vlog sized footage to my blog/youtube channel too so that I can help others get a feel for whats to come! Can't wait to get it all behind me!
  8. July 25th for me! So stoked! Will be arriving at the Mi Doctor Hospital in TJ on the 24th and surgery will be the next day. I think mom and I might go check out San Diego some.....neither of us are really interested in TJ honestly. We're total Cali virgins from MI so the very thought of "touching" California land is like......holy for us lol. Anywhooo....I know I won't be able to do much sight seeing or anything once I'm post-op....so I've got that one day. Mom'll be going nuts though haha! I told her she can just stay out of my hair as much as possible and get a cab and go see San Diego the whole time lol. Love her and all.....but if recovery is anything like the before/after of having my babies I'd rather be left quite alone, with my macbook for company. LOL. Anyways, surgery is with Dr. Cabrera and I went through medicaltourismco, I think that's what it's called. I'm too lazy to check my emails for it.....meh, you know what I'm talking about if it matters to you anyways lol. Can't wait to get this behind me baby!!!

    July 2013 sleevers

Awesome! Just followed your blog and am now one of your "cheerleaders!" LOL. . I've got a blog if you're interested, mind you it's fairly new so there are very few posts. But, it's a start. Check it out if you like. It's destinationpurehealth.blogspot.com.
  10. Right! I would rather add a few more teeny tiny scars to my stretch mark covered belly than "hope" the doctor doesn't knock my liver right out of my body trying to maneuver 5-7 instruments/tools through "one" single incision.....I mean.....it's supposed to be smaller than the diameter of my belly button! EXCUSE ME! You're NOT getting THAT much stuff, PLUS the instrument to keep the liver out of the way into my belly button! LOL! Anywho.....I'll definitely keep updating on here but I also have a blog if you're interested. (destinationpurehealth.blogspot.com) It's fairly new but I'll be posting on there very frequently and all of my stats and updates pre and post-op will be on there too. I'm also planning on adding some vlogs on there also, just as soon as I learn how. But the latest will be surgery day because there is no way I'm missing an opportunity to vlog THAT ENTIRE EXPERIENCE! lol. Wish I could take the camera in the surgery room with me.......I don't think Dr. Cabrera would be too happy with that though lol. Meh.....I'll work on em...
  11. ^ This could very well have been written by myself! Just put two crazy lunatic yet still loveable boys in place of the two beautiful daughters bit, and put surgery date on July 25th!! Yep.....all the rest sounds just like me! I'm having the surgery for the same main reasons as you are! And I also only told my mother and hubster. And am traveling to TJ, MX with my mom too. That's so uncanny lol.
  12. Traveling to San Diego International on the 19th, then it's a 20 minute drive to the hospital in TJ, MX from there! Surgery scheduled with Dr. Israel Cabrera Garcia! This just got real!!!!!!!! Super excited!
  13. Ugh, just got rescheduled for the 25th! 5 more blasted days!!! AARRRGGH!

    july 2013 sleevers

Okay, so the Dr upped my surgery date to the 25th....waaaaahhhh. . Ah well. That's not much farther off from my original date (20th), only 5 days more.......sigh. He had some family stuff to do apparently....... . I didn't push honestly, didn't want him to have daggers on the mind while doing my surgery! LOL.
  15. Wow! Congratulations skinny2be! 27lbs down in 28 days! That's almost a lb a day! Thank you for keeping us updated!
  16. Well, don't know about any new low bmi'ers, but updates with me are that I've got my Surgery date scheduled finally! July 20th!!!

I'm scheduled for July 20th, leaving for TJ, MX on the 19th! Can't wait!!!!!
  18. Okay, so I swear I thought I saw a link/form to import my blog from blogger into my account but I seem to have misplaced it. Is there a way to do that on here somehow or was I just dreaming it all up?

    Overeating

Well, I can't say anything for sure about the post-op part, as I haven't had the procedure yet. But I do want to tell you that I sometimes worry about the exact same thing. I too am a big time overeater, and honestly hunger has had nothing to do with it for as long as I can remember. Nor does emotional eating or mental hunger or any of that stuff. I used to down 2-3 plates of food at a sitting just because I could but have learned self control comes pretty easily when your not interested in food as much any longer. At least not the kind of crappy food I was eating previously before going paleo/primal (low carb, high Protein, mod-high fat). The feeling of satisfaction I get from eating this way is my biggest reward. That coupled with the guilt-free feelings I get when knowing I intentionally ate very little, and stopped before I was "full". My purpose here is....I believe that this "overeating" mess/cycle we are in can only be cleared up/broken by our "will" to stop it. Because, (especially in my case) we "will" ourselves to eat beyond what we need, and we let ourselves get carried away. So it is our "will" to no longer do that to ourselves that can take us out of that situation. For me, having dealt with overeating for as long as I can remember, I am happy to say that now I honestly see food as sustenance and almost always forget to eat until my stomach growling becomes easily loud enough for the person at the far corner of the room to hear. Even then, I usually am so non-fussed over eating that I won't immediately leave what I'm doing at the moment just to go eat (even if IT IS my favorite food). My husband, or mom or whomever has to almost always nag me to go eat by which time I oblige just to keep the nagging at bay lol. The way I see, react and think of food has changed drastically in these few months simply because I decided to force myself to stay away from sugar and carbs and things I LOVED to eat, in turn changing my priorities AND my favorites. That's where all the "will" business comes in. And that's where the procedure comes in. The way I see it is, once we have the procedure we will gain the ability to feel full once again. You know that feeling of fullness that is non-existant to us.....that will be gone. It will remain so for at the very least 1 year post op. Which is MORE than enough time to get our bodies, our mouths and our minds back in check if we just "will" ourselves to make the change! I for one, will be using that time to recondition myself to eat fully primal (paleo plus dairy), low carb/high protein/low-mod-high saturated fat/NO SUGAR. The fact that my sleeve will only take so much will be the perfect opportunity for me to make this change permanent. It's a new stomach, a new start! Once the year has passed and I've become accustomed to eating the way I did in order to milk my sleeve, I find it VERY hard to fall back into old habits. As I'll have had plenty of time to destroy the old nasty ones, and plenty more time to have made new awesome ones in place of them...and beyond that. From that point on, I think failure is only an option as long as intentional self-sabotage is. The only way to fail now is to revert back, and after 1-2 years of being a certain way the only way to revert back now....is intentional. Basically, if you are intent on failing, you will fail. But by that time......with all the new habits, an entirely new way of being, a new lifestyle......it's not going to be easy going back. This is how I see it, helped by my years and years of experience as an overeater and my experience in breaking that habit permanently in only a few months....without the help of a gastric sleeve! (think what the sleeve can do for me!!! And you!!!)
  20. I can't have the normal Protein powders out there as they are usually never kosher/halal. So I was wondering whether anyone knew of any great tasting high protein whey powders that I could use instead to amp up my liquids/foods/soups whatever from the get-go after the surgery. I really want to make sure I'm getting in as much protein as possible and want to put protein in basically everything I ingest lol. Have to make it count right! lol. Another question I have regarding whey protein powders. I want to keep my carbs as low as possible (easily under the 50's in grams) and as clean as possible too, so I'm wondering how this "whey" stuff fares in that sense? Does the benefit of added protein outweigh the effects of "gluten" and carbohydrate ratio in the stuff? Also, while we're on the subject....lol. Does anyone know if whey protein powders have sugar/sweeteners in them? Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who answers!
  21. I really like the way this one is formulated. Just visited the site and to be honest this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for initially. However, the protein is a bit low for what I need in the first stages. Actually, the protein/carb ratio is rather too high for me to at the moment. However, I will most definitely change to this stuff ASAP once I get over the initial first few stages and can add in more protein "otherwise". Meaning, my sleeve is ready for "real" food. Thanks a ton Lai!
