  1. I have A very difficult time with the Protein powders. Although lately I am able to tolerate the Unjury chicken Soup flavored or plain flavored if I mixed them in chicken stock or beef stock. I don't like them with anything sweet like a smoothie. But in broth they taste just fine. Also I have been purchasing at BJ's Wholesale Club premium Protein Shakes chocolate flavored. They have 30 g of protein and an 11.5 container. I mix half the container with one cup of milk over ice and am able to tolerate that as well. Good luck finding something you like. It took me a while but I have at least been able to use these two products


  2. I Am 4 Months Out. June 24th, Down 51 Lbs. I don't Feel Uncomfortable Sharing. I Do However Wait To Be Asked. If They Don't Ask I Don't Offer. I give thanks for the compliment (while smiling ear to ear). If Asked What are you doing? Or how are you doing it? I Tell The Truth. Nobody Has Come Right Out And Asked "Hey Did You Have Weight Loss Surgery?" Its More Like "So Are You Working Out A Lot? Then I Share. Eventually Everyone Finds Out. I would rather put it out there than mislead. That's not to say that everyone should share, I understand that not everyone is comfortable discussing such personal choices. I Made A Choice And Feel Good About. It Was Almost A Year From My First Bariatric Surgery Meeting Until My Surgery. Gave It A Lot Of Thought, Learned A Lot And Chose To Move Forward. I'm Happy With My Decision Thus Far, And Sharing Is Easy For Me. If people are going to "gossip" about your decision, my guess is that they're already gossiping about your weight, (I know a lot of people in my life did). no matter what you do people will always have something to say. My hope is that you too will find your comfort zone.


  3. I too am just about three months out. June 24th, down 41 lbs. and it shows. I don't feel uncomfortable sharing. I do however wait to be asked. If they don't ask I don't offer. But when asked I tell the truth. Nobody has come right out and asked "hey did you have that weight loss surgery?" Its more like "so are you working out a lot? Then I share. Eventually everyone finds out. I made a choice and feel good about. it was almost a year from my first bariatric surgery meeting until my surgery. gave it a lot of thought, learned a lot and chose to move forward. I'm happy with my decision thus far, and sharing is easy for me. I hope it gets easier for you and anyone else that may feel weird about being honest.


  4. I just read the post you made on June 8th regarding hunger. I am 8 days out and feel hungry a lot of the time. I'm doing a pretty decent job getting my Proteins and my fluids in. I was just wondering if you are feeling satisfied now that more time has past. And if you are not feeling hungry all the time, how long did it take to get to that point. Appreciate any input.


  5. You look amazing. Very happy for you. I am one week post-op and have been using the sample they gave me at the nutrition class. 1/4 cup of chobani plain yogurt with 1/4 scoop of Syntrax Nectar nets 11.5 grams of Protein. Is not the best tasting thing I've ever eaten but not horrible. I have tried it with 2 favors so far. I haven't really tried much of the Unjury brand yet, but did spend some time on their website yesterday, and am thinking I will probably be ordering a container of unflavored. Seems you can add some to a lot of different foods without altering the taste/texture too much. Haven't tested that one out yet. Although I did just make a batch of Jello with their Protein Powder added. Haven't tried it yet. I'll see how that goes. I'm hoping I like it. Seems if I can add a little here and a little there throughout my day it'll help. Each scoops is 23 grams of protein, so a sprinkle here a sprinkle there will add up. I HOPE. lol sounds good in theory but putting it to practice, well we'll just see. I can see me now, I'm going to be like one of those ladies you see pulling packets of sweet 'n low out of their bags, except for me it'll be protein powder . Haha Wish me luck


  6. Well guys and gals, it's Thursday evening. I was sleeved on Monday . Whew, what a week. I spent three nights in the hospital. I was/am surprised it to that long for me to get up and running, (not literally). Not the norm, my nurses said they didn't recall anyone else staying that long. But at the same time were careful not to make me feel rushed. I had a tough time of it. A lot a pain, unable to get fluids down, nausea, nausea and more nausea. Had trouble tolerated the pain Meds but thanks to one of my amazing nurses that was quickly remedied, by a call to the dr. For an alternative . Still having gas issues, not sure how long that'll last, forgot to ask the doctor about that one. At this point the only way I can really get my fluids down is to take them while standing then just walk it off a little. I am tender but not in any real degree of pain. Except if I burp, YUCK I hate how that feels.

    Earlier in the week I found myself asking "oh no, what did I do to myself" but at this point I'm glad I went through with it. Looking forward to things about to come.


  7. Hi everyone! I'm Lisa and I'm getting sleeved tomorrow. I've spent a year researching and hanging out here and I finally decided to have the surgery done. Is it normal to still be second guessing my decision? I'm very nervous and would appreciate any positive thoughts sent my way.

    Good luck. I too am being sleeved tomorrow, not feeling nervous. Not sure why. I was nervous but the closer I get the calmer I feel. Best wishes


  8. After I was approved by the bariatric team, I was required to take a nutrition class (in addition to the monthly meetings I was having the the nutritionist). We are also required to do a pre-op weigh in within the two weeks prior to our surgery date. During the class it we were told that the pre-op weigh in is the one that counts for the insurance company. Its the one they will submit when requesting approval.

    I too was concerned about dropping weight because BMI just makes the cutoff. If I had dropped ANY weight I would have not met the required minimum . After my approval from the bariatric team I was worried about approval from my insurance. So during my next monthly with my nutritionist I asked her, in her experience what were some of the reasons for denial from insurance. She did say she had at least one client who was denied because he/she lost enough weight prior to the 2 week pre-op weigh to bring their BMI below minimum requirement.

    If I were In Your shoes I would ask that question to every member of the team I met with, just to make sure. It's always comforting when you get the same answers from difference sources


  9. I have not had my surgery yet. I am scheduled for June 24th, 3 days to go. My initial intent was to go with the lap band, I have changed my mind. The sleeve appeals to me for multiple reasons. I like the idea of a significant decrease in hunger due to the decrease of ghrelin. I also like the fact that the part of the stomach that remains as little stretch to it. But most of all because of the conversations I've had with my best friend who has the lap band. She had been in for many adjustments and at this point her insurance no l longer covers the visits. There are issues with tissue that has formed around it (the port, I believe ) My understanding is that adjustments are no longer an option. But most of all because she always feels hungry. Never really satisfied. It does stop her from over eating. Therefore she has lost weight.

    Having said all that I'm not suggesting you choose one over the other, just sharing.


  10. The idea of having an adverse reaction in public, or anywhere other than home due to the reintroduction foods to my stomach scares me. In fact 14 of us have tickets to a concert at an outdoor venue ( big tailgating party) on day 1 of my advancing to stage 4 diet. My plan (pending input from my NUT) is to stay on stage 3 that day, don't want to risk getting sick away from home. Just food for thought.
