    Is one night enough?

I stayed one night. I really didn't have much pain, except for about 2 hours before I left the hospital, but that was the gas trying to make it's escape! I was up and walking no problem and felt pretty good otherwise.
  2. So the back of my tongue is still kinda gross from being intubated during surgery. I have bought a tongue cleaner and foam, but cannot use it without gagging horribly! Has anyone dealt with this issue and have any solutions?

    Cleaning Tongue

Thanks so much for the suggestions! Will try them both!
  4. She's in the hospital, so that is good. Blood clots can be dangerous if they are undiagnosed and dislodge. She is in the right place and is being taken good care of. Sending positive vibes your way!
  5. I'll have to mention it to my doc on Tuesday. I felt it again just before going to bed last night and a little while after waking up this morning, before I've even had anything to drink. Kinda weird!

    10 days post-op

I have an excel spreadsheet on my computer. I track everything so I know I'm getting enough fluid and protein in.
  7. I did. For me I think it was still the gas they pump you with. It subsided after a few days and with moving around more.

    VSG in 2008

Good for you for taking the steps to turn this around and to ask for help. You are very brave. Great job on getting back to the basics. The only thing I can maybe recommend is that there are chair level exercise videos out there you could maybe use or, if you already have exercise videos, just adapt them to do at chair level. Who cares if you can only get through 5 or 10 minutes of it. It's a start. Even if you don't do a video but just do about 10 leg raises a couple of times a day, at least your moving a bit. Best of luck to you!
  9. If they contain sugar, I would say not. You might have some unpleasant side effects!
  10. I haven't done heavy duty exercising yet, but I've been walking 3 miles a day from about day 5 on. Have my follow up with the surgeon on Tuesday so will ask him then if I have any restrictions besides the lifting more than 20lbs.
  11. You can't feel guilty. You couldn't have known that your mom might have faced some complications. You got her to her doc right away and she is getting the care she needs. While it is great that you are there for your mom, you need to make sure you are taking care of you too. You won't be any good to her if you end up sick too. Best of luck to both of you!

    Im home...now what?

Same here. The first few days there was no way I was getting in all that was recommended. Fluids were the priority. It wasn't until about a week out that I was able to get to the low end of the target ranges.
  13. Even with the medicine to prevent it, I was still extremely nauseous after surgery. When my Dad had surgery, he woke up feeling fine and went out for a nice meal afterwards - no telling how some people react.

    "Dumping" Syndrom?

Same thing here. I am 10 days PO and it would happen after every 'meal'. My stomach would start the gurgling thing and I would have to get to the bathroom. It probably lasted about 3-4 days. It's getting much better now and isn't happening as often. It's a big adjustment for our systems and our bodies are wondering what the heck is going on!

    ITCHING around incisions....

I had a rash over my entire stomach that itched liked crazy! I messaged my doctor and the nurse said to try Benadryl. It has helped for me. I know others on here have reported it didn't help them at all. I'd say give it a try and good luck!
  16. I have to say that I have been very lucky in that regard. I did not keep the fact that I was going to have surgery a secret. Just about everyone I told has seen me struggle over the years with weight, and they were all happy for me, but at the same time concerned over having such a major surgery. I think it is great that we have forums like this so that we can all get the support we need. Like you said, your sisters have never had a weight problem and can't understand where you are coming from or what you are going through. Everyone on this site certainly does! Good for you for taking charge of your health and doing the research to put your mind at ease. It is scary and exciting all at the same time. Good luck on your journey!
  17. Great job! You look so much younger!

    one more try...

Click on your name in the top right corner of the screen, choose 'my settings' and a screen will pop up with an option to change/upload a photo.
  19. I totally get where you are coming from. I am also 9 days out and am bored with what I'm having now. I think that is the most powerful thing to overcome. Like you said, I'm not hungry, I'm just bored with my current selection. It's hard, but I'm going to stick it out for another 5 days until I meet with my NUT. Stay strong! We can do it!!
  20. I just started an identical topic today! I have a rash over my entire stomach, around my sides and working its way down a little. Had surgery on 6/10 and noticed it about 3 days ago. Initially wasn't really itchy. Last night I could barely get to sleep it was driving me crazy! Haven't had any narcotic pain relievers since Friday night. I had initially thought it was from the oxycodone, but you would think it would start getting better, not worse. I messaged my surgeon and the nurse replied to try Benadryl. Just took my first dose about a half hour ago. Fingers crossed!!
  21. I'm only 1 week out but find after pretty much every meal that I need to use the bathroom several times. I didn't consider it dumping because I don't have the other symptoms associated - the nausea, sweating, palpitations, etc. I feel fine other than the fact that I need to be close to the bathroom for about an hour after I'm done with a meal. Can't wait for that to stop!

    6dpo

Protein shakes, Cambell's 98% FF Cream of Chicken soup and the Broccoli and Cheese soup, popsicles, sugar free pudding. Gotta be honest though, can't wait for my follow up. Need a little more variety. Getting bored, not hungry though!
  23. Amazing! Congratulations! Seriously, I don't think anyone on here has ever heard anyone tell them they should put on a couple of pounds! LOL!
  24. OMG! That looks so good. I absolutely love feta! I'm not at that stage yet, only 1 week out, but do you need to use the reduced fat feta?

    TOTAL DISBELIEF

Congratulations! Have you been able to wipe the smile off your face yet? I hope not!!!
