Beginners Guide to Running for the Obese

Why do you doubt you will ever run? Jamielogical...its not a goal of mine. I would be happy with being able to walk fast and longer distances. I guess I never thought about running because I couldn't ever do it without feeling like I was going to die or pass out. I walked 3 miles today at a pretty decent clip and I wasn't exhausted or winded. That was cool. Maybe I will run someday

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers

Fatty McF....so sorry you are still feeling crummy. I hope you get the pain under control soon.
  8. We have a PTO (paid time off) bank here and unfortunately for newcomers (like me) we don't earn PTO at the same rate as the others. I am trying VERY HARD to save 2 weeks of PTO to go into 2017. We get our PTO in increments every 2 weeks, so I "earn" 5.769 hours of PTO every two weeks. What stinks is that most of the people in my company have worked here a really long time and are earning at least 8 if not 10 hours every two weeks so they do not have the same "PTO" crunch I do. Anyway, for the last week I've been LYSOL'ing my cubicle and making sure I wash my hands frequently because SO MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING IN SICK! They or someone in their family has the flu. Someone actually posted this on FB this morning "Not sure we'll be able to make Good Friday service this year as everyone in my house has the flu"...did he stay home? NO! He's here about 10 feet away from me. My mom had surgery on Monday....the last thing I need is to get sick or get her sick after just having the sleeve. I know these guys/gals have plenty of time to take off so WHY DON'T THEY USE IT!!!! Ahhhgh. I really can't afford to be ill. Rant over.

    Feeding tube after vsg

It didn't happen to me but I am so sorry it happened to you. That must be scary. Don't feel alone...you have us on the boards! I didn't go through what you did, but after my surgery I was readmitted and spent another 4 days in the hospital while they tried to control my nausea and retching. Every time I would eat or drink something I would involuntarily retch...I really don't remember the first 2 days after I got back in the hospital because I was on a lot of medications to get the nausea under control. Knock on wood, that was the last complication I had and I've been ok since. Keep us updated and we are all thinking of you.

Got my new Fitbit Charge HR

I just got it yesterday and I already love it. Does anyone know if you need to do anything special for it to record a workout? I have Zumba tomorrow morning....Will it just track it or do I need to "tell" it I'm in a fitness class? Sorry for the dumb question.

    You won't believe this NSV

  14. Rvamom...losing 100lbs FEELS FREAKIN FANTASTIC!!! And I had my doubts initially I'd ever do it...but I did! I don't "feel" fat. I feel good! I feel great! I want to shout it from the rooftops and I THANK GOD everyday for this second chance.

    Questions about surgery

Hair - depending upon surgery YES you may have hair loss. More hair loss with gastric bypass, less with the sleeve. I lost some hair, but it's regrowing and I never had a bald spot. I had the sleeve. I did not have drainage tubes. I don't think most people do...but ask the surgeon. I had some dry heaves and nausea post-surgery but I think mine was an adverse reaction to the type of anesthesia they used. I was fine after a few days. As for gas pain - there is some gas left in your body after you have the surgery and walking around and moving gets it out. You can burp and/or fart (sorry if TMI!) but it will make you feel better to MOVE MOVE MOVE. The benefits of the surgery far outweigh a little hair loss, the possible inconvenience of drains, or gas. Ask questions of your surgical team! What surgery are you having? GOOD LUCK!
  16. Katanne - my mother had GERD and all her tests showed no hiatal hernia. She just got sleeved this past Monday and her surgeon did a "two-fer".....she had a very large hiatal hernia that was repaired at the same time. Hopefully all her GERD issues will be gone too You can still have the sleeve.
  17. princessprotein....I bought chocolate unjury which was my FAVE FAVE FAVE pre-op. Now I hate it. I have a full tub of it. I'm probably going to toss it because it's opened. Don't buy too much stuff pre-op, because taste buds do change. I didn't believe it...at all...thought people were crazy...until it happened to me!
  18. Glad you were able to see your surgeon and they were able to fix your stricture. Take it easy and I hope it is a "permanent" fix Happy Easter!

Mind games = my worst enemy

Sassyfrass23 I arrived late at this party but it seems you have your pre-op diet under control. I just wanted to tell you that I worked at a job for years and put in long hours, went in on Saturday, and worried when I went on vacation. The last year I worked there I had to take lorazepam to get through the day. My hair was falling out and I would feel physically sick on Sunday thinking about having to go in for Monday. Some days my hands shook so bad I had to sit on them. I finally realized that while the pay was great, my life wasn't. I started looking for another job and found one. The day I got the offer for my current job via email I sat in my cubicle and cried tears of joy. I took a small cut in pay, but it was worth it to get my life back. I know you've got a lot on your plate right now, but if work is truly that stressful for you now, it's probably not going to get better in the future...something to think about. With that being said....having the sleeve surgery was one of the best things I've done for myself other than switching jobs! I'm down over 100lbs and I feel great. Best of luck to you!

Glad you are home in your own bed! My mom had a hernia repair too. She just had some tomato soup. She's very tired. I'm sure you are sore, every day it will get better.

    The Lymphatic System

Inner Surfer Girl - I just bought the dry brush and face brush on Amazon. Love my Prime membership. I've read about the benefits of dry brushing before and I'm going to do it. I have dramatically cut down on sugar and I'm starting Yoga next week. Yoga is 1 night a week in addition to my 2 Zumba days. I haven't ever thought about a "rebounder" before but I might look into it. Excellent article - thanks for sharing.
  23. You can do it Don't let business travel derail you. You know what to stay away from in restaurants...you got this!

shortstuff4ever78 - did you get to go home last night or did they keep you another night? My mom finally got to go home around 6:15. Of course we hit a ton of traffic. She was happy to be home and in her own bed. I hope they got your blood pressure under control. We could've been out of there earlier, but mom had some sort of allergic reaction to the pill form of the pain med they gave her and broke out in a red, itchy rash so they had to give her some Benadryl.
