  1. Thank you everyone. It's good to hear other people are hitting long stalls and I'm not alone. I will increase Protein and concentrating on reducing carbs like I have. It's funny was at my friends yesterday and there all making healthy sandwiches and I had my little plate of turkey and a slice of cheese lol, I was quite content with that though.

Anyway appreciate all your suggestions thank you

  2. Hey Mark, I know I should stay off the scales, I hear it everywhere but I just like to know I'm going ok. I haven't measured unfortunately as would have been a brilliant idea. I've got photo's which help me see the difference as I don't really see it in the mirror but comparing photo's I definitely can and I can see it in the clothes. I used to be a size 22 and brought from the bigger person section where as now I can shop in the normal section and can be from a 16 - 18 depending on which shop.

My daily calories are around 800 calories net as advised by dietition. I'm burning on average about 400 - 600 calories a day. So if I've done 700 for example I eat more to keep energy levels up but try not to go over the 800 net calories. Protein tends to be between 35g - 50g depending on the day. Carbs have been around 90 - 100g a day so I'm working on reducing that down to 50g as I only just read and took note of this today. I do have sweeteners in my coffee and drink pepsi max :-/ I cook meat every night and try to have a meat for lunch. I have high Protein Cereal for Breakfast.

    Thanks heaps

    Kim

Staying off the scale would be the best advice. It's a number. Are you measuring? How are clothes fitting? It's possible your body is recomping during this time and is adjusting to the weight that's been lost, but its lasted for a few weeks it may be time to change up the diet. Keeping carbs down certainly help. Carbs/eating before bed is a touchy subject I don't agree with. Muscle loss (catabolism) is natural during sleep cycles, so I eat before bed to help minimize the effect. What's your daily intake like? Are you eating boxed/processed crap or solid wholesome foods? What about protein intake? Even if you keep carbs under 50, eating bad carbs is just as bad as eating 200g carbs. Watch for sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners as well, they have a negative effect on a lot of people keeping carbs low causing insulin spikes and such the same as sugar does.

  3. Not even sure if topic title makes sense lol but I'm after advice with what to do regarding saggy skin on my upper arms and going to gym. I've lost 32 kilos in 6 months post surgery and now have saggy skin above elbow. I'm now wearing long sleeves at gym which is hot, always worn singlet tops. Is there some kind of compression sleeves or something you can wear to keep yourself tucked in so to speak, while working out? It's ugly and makes you feel so self conscious, so if I could wear something that would be great. Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Hi all,

I'm 6 months in and down 32 kilos. yay that is great but I have been getting down over the last few weeks as the scales have stoped moving :-( I've just read a post saying to keep carbs under 50 grams per day and not to eat carbs before bed. Any other advice would be appreciated and to know whether this is a common plateo? Only plateo I've had is at week 5 post surgery. I'm now super active and exercise every day, feeling great until scales decided to conspire against me.

  5. I am 3 months out today and my doc has me at 1500 calories a day? Does this seem high considering what all of you are at?

I'm only 5 weeks out and just starting to hit 600 calories. 1500 seems very high as that's what I was eating prior to surgery (even though it was less healthy). I'm sure my Dietition said in 12 months I'd be eating about 1000 calories a day. But you have to follow what they say so I'd probably discuss with them and see what they say

  6. Propel Water taste great to...I never have been able to drink Water but Crystal Light and Propel makes it easier

Is propel water and crystal light available in Australia, does anyone know? Just I've never heard of it. I think I really want to try them.

Also need to try the fruit in water.

I'm not as sick any more think it was a bug but still struggle with water

  7. Anyone else having or had trouble with drinking Water at 5 weeks post op?

I've been super lucky with what I can eat. I can eat most things now just not much of it and chew it up real good. Even had some diet soft drink and cordial. But water always makes me nautous. I just had a couple of mouthfuls 20 min apart to have medicine, this made me dry reach and run for the bucket. I've never been sick, this is the closest I've come and I don't like it :-(

  8. I am officially 6 months post op tomorrow and i am down 71 pounds.

    Starting weight: 256

    Current weight: 185

Goal weight: 140-150 (depending on how i look at 150)

I said i wanted to get into a bikini by 6 months.. and honey I did. Didn't say I would wear it... just wanted to get into it! At a terrible stall however. I've not recorded a lost in an entire month. I'm working out every single day (even see my abs starting to form) and the scale just won't move. At first I thought it was Water weight. Now I just have no clue! Anyone have any suggestions on how to jumpstart this weight loss again?!?!? If not' date=' I'm going to have to try the pouch test.[/quote']

You what. . Said u weren't going to wear a bikini, my god girl u look great - u can wear it. If I get down to that weight/shape I WILL wear one, maybe with shorts cause I think I'll need to work on my self confidence ???? well done

  9. I was sleeved on 24/5/13, I lost 16lbs (or 7.5 kilo for the Aussies) in the first 2 weeks, and hit a stall week 3-4. Hoping this will break, I was loosing faith being under 500 cal a day and exercising 5 days a week with no results. Thanks to this forum I now realise this is normal. I just want more weight to go! I do love my stomach now, I can eat nearly anything but such ridiculously small proportions which I like. Only miss my diet coke and to scared to try it as most people don't until after 12 weeks I've heard

  10. Be patient' date=' it's normal to stall at the 3-5 week point. I'm only losing a kilo a week right now but I won't let it bother me. I'm in it for the long term. So are you! Congrats on the gym. I haven't done more than walking yet.

NSV while camping. I felt comfortable in pretty short shorts (there were very few people around). These shorts are special. When I did my knee and had to have ACL reconstruction in 2010, I had to go through 12 sessions of intense physio. I owned no shorts and needed some for physio. They had some I could borrow but the biggest ones were literally skin tight. After the first session I went to Target and bought the biggest shorts they had in "track pant" fleece material. They were still embarrassingly tight but I soldiered through the physio. These shorts have been with me since, and when I got below 90 kg on Optifast I could wear them. I was so happy. The lowest I ever got on Optifast was 85. Now that I am again below 90 I can wear them in public again and they are looser than they were last time! I can't wait until they are too big!

Another NSV is I caught myself crossing my legs a few times. I can't do it well yet but it has been years since I even tried. Clearly my legs are feeling slimmer to me.

I ate ice cream today. 3/4 of a Magnum Gold. It went down shockingly well so I will need to be careful about that! I didn't feel guilty because of how little I could eat yesterday and all of the walking over the past three days. And this is the first time in my life I didn't finish an ice cream![/quote']

Mistysj - Ahh u have eased my mind, was not aware there was a week 3-5 stall. Feeling better now and soldiering on. Feels good to eat so little yet content. Wish Water was nicer haha.

And go the short shorts ???? your going great.

  11. Hey everyone in 1 week post-op' date=' I've posted before about my Protein shakes making me sick. So I obviously haven't been getting any real Protein.

But have any of you been hungry? I'm like starving and I want some chicken. Or turkey. I'm like going crazy.[/quote']

Hey, I can't tolerate the drinks so I had physical high protein milk, yogurt and custard. I mix in skim milk powder for extra protein and benefibre wherever possible. I moved onto vegetable Soup with added chicken and pumpkin Soup with added skim milk. Now I'm week 3-4 and I've been blending meat, tuna casserole and kebab sticks. I'm able to tolerate soft foods but I don't eat much. Ie lucky to eat half a kebab etc. hope that helps

  12. Congratulations' date=' Kim! How are you feeling? How is your recovery going?[/quote']

Sorry for my delayed reply. I'm well on the mend now eating soft food and back at gym (not quite back to gym normal but close). I lost 5 kilos in first 2 weeks but now I'm eating under 500 calories a day, working out each day and only loosing 100 grms a day seems crazy, a lot less than expected

  13. How far along are you? Just from my experience: the first 3 months I ate 400-600 calories a day. Month 4 I started eating about 800 but still tried to shoot for 600' date=' it was just much harder. Now I am 5.5 months out and I shoot for 1000 calories a day. I lose about 1-2 lbs a week and don't have too much left til I hit goal. Everyone is different. My nutritionist doesn't recommend I eat more than 800 a day, but I feel more normal at 1000 and am still losing, so sometimes you know your body better than anyone.[/quote']

I'm 4 weeks post op and I'm on to soft food and stay bellow 500 calories. It's just the first couple of weeks I lost like 5 kilos and I've slowed right down.

I'm trying to keep my Water up but find it so hard, ill try do better though if its going to help ????. The only thing I REALLY miss is diet coke. How long til u can have diet soft drink again?

  14. I'm feeling a little down at the moment because in the first couple of weeks I lost 5 kgs and now I'm on soft diet and under 500 cal a day, exercising for about 40 min a day I'm loosing super slow about 700 grams a week. I don't understand why so slow. The main thing I struggle with is Water intake. Any advise highly appreciated

  15. I LOVE to cook and am just wrapping up the pureed stage off my diet. Here are some of my favorite concoctions - enjoy!

Egg salad - couple eggs' date=' 1 tsp of mayo, 1/2 tsp of spicy brown mustard, salt & pepper - puree until smooth

Buffalo chicken - can of chicken, 1 tbsp blue cheese crumbles, 2 tbsp ranch dressing, 1 tsp. of buffalo sauce, salt & pepper - puree until smooth - MY PERSONAL FAVORITE!

Squash casserole - 1 can of squash with vidalia onion, 2 tbsp of cream cheese, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, salt & pepper, 1 tsp margarine/butter, 1 tbsp shredded cheddar cheese - puree until smooth, pour into dish and microwave for 90 seconds or until heated through and bubbly

Pintos and cheese - 1 can of Pintos with onion - puree until smooth, pour into dish and cover with 2 tbsp. of shredded cheddar cheese - microwave for 90 seconds or until heated through and bubbly - stir well to combine the cheese - optional: add a bit of enchilada sauce if you are looking for more flavor.

    Lemon Ricotta Creme

Take one 15 oz. container of part skim ricotta cheese, add the zest of one lemon, juice of half the lemon, 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 4 packets of splenda - puree until smooth - AWESOME!!!!

You can do variations on this should you choose - substitue orange zest and 1 tbsp. of orange juice with orange extract or keep vanilla extract for a dreamsicle taste. chocolate ricotta creme is easy too by substituting 2 tbsp. cocoa powder instead of zest and juice, same vanilla extract and splenda to sweeten.

Perfect sweet tooth item instead of the same old pudding and/or jell-o and it has a high concentration of Protein due to the ricotta cheese. Enjoy!

Parmesan Garlic Cauliflower (tastes a lot like mashed potatoes, but very low carb!)

1 bag of frozen cauliflower florets

    1 tsp butter/margarine

    1 tsp salt

    1/4 tsp garlic powder

    1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese

    1/4 cup of parmesan cheese

    1/4 cup of milk

Blend until smooth, pour into a casserole dish and top with another 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese and microwave for 90 seconds - enjoy![/quote']

I too would like to say your brilliant and thank you thank you. I have a magic bullet but was like other than Soup what do I purée. Heaps apparently thanks.

Oh and I'm not sure if just me or if its that I'm in Australia but buffalo sauce? Haven't heard of it but want to try, it's different to like BBQ Sauce isn't it?

  16. Just wondering if something is wrong w me. I'm going into week four post op. I just started a egg salad and canned chicken w mayo and tried some cheese for a snack. I have no problem eating these items. I mash them good but don't purée them. I chew well and it all goes down and stays down. Is this normal? I'm satisfied and often don't finish the ounce of what ever I'm eating. I feel like since everyone has said it should take 30 mins to eat Nd purée everything' date=' that I'm doing something g wrong and harming myself. Any ideas? I'm also calling dr tommorow bc I throw up on the protien shakes. No matter what brand or kind I get sick. I just feel like I'm doing something wrong.[/quote']

I don't think so, I think everyone's tummy deals with the trauma in a different way. Still only able to eat a little and not vomiting, sounds ok to me but always best to check.

I'm aloud (day 7) anything that fits through a straw like Soups and stuff, but my tummy doesn't like it (sware it's screaming no at me) so after several tries, I've ruled it out. I do better with dairy.

  17. I am only 10 days out so I can't have the cheese. Thanks for the ideas. I guess until my diet progresses I will be drinking Isopure.< /p>

I'm exactly the same heatwhip. I can only get in about 300 - 350 calories a day. For some reason I just cannot tolerate Soups. So I'm left with yogurt, light custard, milk, orange juice. I'm on day 7 and I'm waiting for a delivery of Protein drinks. At moment all are highest Protein I can get without the shakes so only on about 25gms protein a day and worried bout my hair so need these drinks to come in. My sister suggested today plain Protein Powder to mix in with my yogurts or custard etc. so will try get out tomorrow to find some. Even with the shakes it says in my guide is on 17gms of protein in which have half for lunch, half for tea etc. so kinda impossible to meet without extra protein powder, with the amount I can get in.

Is 300 - 350 calories like the norm?

Also in the all food part in a couple of months, does anyone know how many calories a day we should be staying under?
