  1. Not to sound harsh, but damn it, you have to want it...nobody can do it for you! You know what you have to do, now that you've undergone this major/life-changing surgery...quit whining and just do it! Those first 3-6 months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else...to say it was an emotional friggin' roller coaster is an understatement! You will get through this, however as others have said, talk with your doctor and your nutritionist...that's what they're there for, to help you! Also, as mentioned previously, you have to track your food intake...and be honest! This procedure has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me), however I'd be lying if I said it was easy...it was work. You just gotta get through the gettin' through! If there is a support group in your area, go to it. If there isn't one, start one! Everyone has the right to visit a pity party now and then, the key is knowing when it's time to get up and leave! Good luck and Godspeed for what will be an incredible journey on the road to a healthier and happier you my friend!
  2. Plenty of guys on here...the ladies just talk more! Guys' forum is probably the place to go if you have gender specific questions. However, if you're just curious about WLS in general, fire away!
  3. The anxiety is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic! This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for me. However, it is all a distant memory now! I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better! Now, that period of time is a distant memory! She can tolerate just about everything, albeit in moderation. I can eat almost everything, but for some weird reason, still have a tough time with canned tuna fish!? I can eat steak, chicken, fresh tuna steaks, roast, crawfish, ribs, etc., etc....but canned tuna just doesn't sit well w/me. No worries, I can live without it! I am down 119 lbs. and hit my original goal around 6 months ago. My wife is down 80 lbs. (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT! ) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are falling off, to hell with what the number is on the scale! LOL). The first few months will be an emotional roller coaster...don't be afraid to use the folks on this site as a sounding board, I think you'll find this is pretty much a judgement-free zone! By the way, you're in for one heck of a journey and there's an incredible new you, waiting on the horizon! Godspeed for a quick recovery!
  4. Unfortunately it's true, everyone loses at a different pace, don't worry. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and eat smart...the lbs. will drop. By the way, 23 lbs. ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!
  5. Nothing wrong, as previous post said, just gotta give your body time to heal. Don't become addicted to the number on the scale, the weight will come off...just follow your plan. Good luck and hang on, 'cause you're in for one heck of an awesome journey!
  6. In addition to what others have said (e.g. nuts, jerky, fruit), I make homemade granola (super easy...plenty of recipes online) with Splenda brown sugar and sugar free syrup, in place of honey...very filling and good for you (yes, it has carbs, however I could care less what others will say...carbs are not bad, they are fuel for your body...just can't overindulge.). Good luck!
  7. Wow! Awesome looking couple, great motivation/example for others who are beginning their journey!
  8. Awesome! Way to inspire others!

  10. I am down 119 lbs. and hit my original goal around 5 months ago. My wife is down 80 lbs. and hit her goal about 3 months ago (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). It is perfectly normal to question whether or not this was a good decision, especially during the first few months. Don't worry, give your new tummy time to adjust...it will get better. You're in for one heck of a journey...hang in there, it is definitely an incredible ride!
  11. Those non-scale victories are the best! Too many people let the number on the scale define them. It is liberating when you get to the point where quality of life wins outweigh (no pun intended ) the number of lbs. lost or gained in a given week. Congratulations on your success!
  12. I wouldn't worry, although it sucks, this is just a stall. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and follow your plan to a tee...the lbs. will drop. I could not agree with Kindle more...don't let the number on the scale define you and dictate your feeling of success! I have religiously worked out since about week 16. I started with light weights and gradually increased. Weight training five days a week and mild cardio (mowing lawn, staying busy outside and swimming...well, lounging in the pool! ). As you add muscle, you will have weeks with negligible weight loss. However, although the scale may not move, the inches will...so please, don't beat yourself up over the number on the scale. I weigh once a week...if I remember. By the way, 41 lbs. since April ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!
  13. I wouldn't worry, although it sucks, this is just a stall. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and follow your plan to a tee...the lbs. will drop! By the way, 32 lbs, gone forever, ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!
  14. Big mistake? Hell no! I'm fairly confident it was a tough decision and wasn't made lightly or in haste. As for tolerable foods? Everyone is different, you just have to experiment and find what works for you. As I'm sure you've heard many times, get your Protein in first and don't save the best bites for last, as you probably won't have room for them! Whatever you do, don't (DO NOT!) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure! If you feel better, you are more active and you have a better quality of life, to hell with what the number is on a scale! You're in for one heck of a journey...hang in there, I promise it wasn't a mistake!
  15. I wouldn't worry, this is just a stall. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and follow your plan to a tee...the lbs. will drop. By the way, 20 lbs. in two weeks ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!
  16. Looks really good...gotta try it!
  17. I pray God gives your surgeon and surgical team the skills to perform your procedure without any complications and I pray you have a speedy, complication-free recovery! Once this phase is over, hang on...you're in for one heck of a journey, with an incredible new you waiting at the finish line!
  18. Perfectly normal to feel as you do...abnormal would be if you had no concerns about it at all! Trust me, you are in for one heck of a journey and it is so worth it, for the few reasons you mentioned, plus so many more! Good luck and Godspeed for a rapid recovery!
  19. This anxiety is normal. It is major surgery...if you weren't freaking out, then you should panic! I'm not in the medical field and to be quite honest, I'm fairly naive about the complications associated with a revision. With that being said, I do believe in the power of prayer...I pray God gives your surgeon and surgical team the skills to perform your revision without any complications and I pray you have a speedy, complication-free recovery!
  20. I wouldn't worry, this is just a stall. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and eat smart...the lbs. will drop. By the way, 42 lbs. in 53 days is phenomenal! Give yourself a little credit! Good luck!
  21. Have you tried kale chips? Google it, there are plenty of recipes online. They are really easy to make and tend to satisfy the crunch cravings. They also have some really good snack chips at Sams called Veggie Straws...have the texture and taste of Funyuns. Good luck!
  22. Phenomenal transformation! Yep, that big girl with the pretty face is gone...a beautiful lady took her place!
  23. 8 weeks?!?! No (thank God!), my wife was sleeved exactly two months after me and we waited about 2 weeks...no trapeze or swings,we just took it easy and all was fine. Now, 13 months out for me and 11 months out for my beautiful bride....well, let's just say we're like newlyweds! Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery...you're in for one heck of a journey!
