  1. Not to sound harsh, but you know what to do, now that you've undergone the surgery...just do it! The first two months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else. You will get through this, however you have to want it...and trust me, you do want it! This has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me)...and you will see, the transformation will be incredible! You cannot fathom how much the weight loss is going to change your life...you just gotta get through the gettin' through! Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery!
  2. Be careful with that much weight (backpack), so soon after surgery. You really should take it easy the first two weeks...this was a big decision and a huge step at your age...not worth messing it up. I would think returning to school should be fine, but you may want to reconsider lugging the backpack around...maybe make arrangements with your teachers, I'm sure they would be more than willing to accommodate you for the next week or so. Good luck and be sure to project that smile when you walk across the stage at graduation!

    coffee anyone?

I started drinking coffee again (the leaded stuff, no decaf! ) at about 5-6 weeks. My one year anniversary is in three weeks and I now drink about 6-8...sometimes 10 cups a day...Splenda, a little Hershey's cocoa powder and/or sugar-free vanilla Coffee-Mate. I know, I know...that's a lot of coffee and it's really bad for me and my heart will probably explode and it affects global warming and...whatever! I enjoy it and thus far it hasn't had a negative impact, so I'm drinkin' it! Main thing, don't rush and just find what works for you...some tolerate it fine and others have issues. Hang in there, this early stage was by far the most challenging, however this phase will soon be a distant memory. Good luck and Godspeed on your journey!

    Hiatal Hernia Repair

I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better! Now, that period of time is a distant memory! She can tolerate just about everything, albeit in moderation. I can eat almost everything, but for some weird reason, still have a tough time with canned tuna fish!? I can eat steak, chicken, fresh tuna steaks, roast, crawfish, ribs, etc., etc....but canned tuna just doesn't sit well w/me. No worries, I can live without it! I will tell you (emphatically!), it will get better, just hang in there and get through the gettin' through! I am down 114 lbs. and hit my original goal around 2 months ago. My wife is down 78 lbs. and almost at goal (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission...I told her I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). Godspeed for a rapid recovery and fantastic journey for y'all!

    Heartburn!

I used Tums about 3-4 weeks post-op, with no ill effects. May want to check with your doctor, just to be safe. Good luck!

    MAJOR regrets

I was sleeved exactly 2 months prior to my wife. My surgery and recovery were textbook...zero complications. Now my wife on the other hand...let's just say when I read your post, I almost said, "Honey, is that you???". LOL She also had hernia repair (two) and an issue getting enough fluids. It took about a month for me to sleep with both eyes closed (in her state of mind, she was not to be trusted! ), however she is doing great now and that early period is a distant memory. I pray you have a speedy recovery and hope you have the same outcome as my bride. She is now 9 months out and we're lovin' life! Good luck!

    Water

Aside from keeping you hydrated (which is fairly important! ), it helps the digestive process and a number of other ancillary benefits. http://www.onemedical.com/blog/live-well/6-benefits-of-staying-hydrated/ I still have a difficult time remembering to drink enough Water (I just forget!), but just gotta make it a point to do so. Good luck!

    Chili

WhoDat.... From NOLA ??? How'd you guess??? Close...Slidell.
  21. Ditto! I'm still talking folks' ears off, if they ask and sound sincere about learning more. I feel like if my story can help someone else make an informed decision, why not share it with them? Regarding my decision to have the surgery, I didn't keep it a secret, if people asked, I told them. However, now, if I don't feel like going into great detail with someone who doesn't know, I just tell them I'm eating less and moving more...which isn't a lie!

    Chili

I tried canned chili (Hormel) about two months post-op and didn't tolerate it well at all. Tried Wendy's chilli about a month later and it was great, no issues! Still get it every now and then, when weather is cool. I'm a little over 10 months post-op and eat anything I want now, albeit much less quantity...which is a good thing! Ate crawfish yesterday, for the first time since my surgery. It was hot/spicy and tasted great! No issues with the spices. Good luck!

    Any Regrets?

Zero regrets! Hit my goal weight a few months ago and haven't looked back! Just follow doc's orders, do not rush the process (follow the timelines for liquids, pureed, mushy, etc. and get moving as much as possible) and look to this site for just about any question(s) you may have. You are in for one heck of an awesome journey! Godspeed for a quick recovery!
