    Sleeping On Your Side Again?!

Tolerable in about 3 days...two weeks before it was comfortable! The surgery and associated byproducts are all distant memory now (6 mos. out)...hang on and get ready for one heck of a ride!

    November 2013

    From the album: pics

My bride and I acting goofy! I'm 6 months out and she is 4 months...enjoying life!
  5. It is really far less difficult to do than it sounds...and that's from someone who used to drink half a gallon of tea, Diet Coke or whatever else was handy, with dinner! LOL I'm six months out, my wife is four months, and drinking before/after meals is a non-issue for both of us. Good luck!
  6. Hell, I can't even pronounce it...not sure if I developed it or not! Just kiddin'. Sleeved almost 6 months ago...had a few problems with constipation for about the first two months, but that's about it. Everything working great now, no problems.

    Having a melt down!

Amen to what the others have said...it will get better...much better! I'm almost 6 months post-op and my wife is 4 months...and we're loving life! I honestly feel like those first few months were a lifetime ago...distant memories! Although I still cringe at the thought of chicken broth, Greek yogurt and Jello! LOL Hang in there, follow docs orders to the letter and I promise, you'll look back a few months from now and feel the same way! Good luck!

    Veterans! Need your insight!

Doc recommended taking it for the first 12 months.
  9. Whew! Glad you clarified cow...I thought cow status was way more than 219! LOL Sorry, couldn't resist. Doc suggested goal weight, based on BMI and build. Now that I'm only 17 lbs. away from goal, I'm shooting for a bit lower, but we'll see! Good luck!

    Veterans! Need your insight!

I'm almost 6 months post-op and my wife is 4 months...never had an issue with GERD. We both take Prilosec daily, as well as a few supplements, but I've missed a day here and there, with no adverse effects. Have not heard about increased risk for esophageal cancer ...too busy enjoying our new lives to worry about it! Good luck!

    Its LOSE NOT LOOSE!

My pet peeve...the entire PC crowd! I mean really, if you cannot laugh at life, too bad, go to another thread. Folks who get offended by something on TV or the radio, it's real easy...don't protest the station, CHANGE THE CHANNEL! I was enjoying this thread, until it got far too serious. By the way, if the previous rant offended anyone...two bad! ; ) My favorites here in the South... Y'all - singular All y'all - plural

Returning to the gym after a prolonged illness

Ditto LipstickLady...start w/low weight, go through the motions and slowly increase. The main thing, listen to your body...take it slow and steady, you'll be back to form in no time.

Sitting in waiting room, slightly freaking out

Your feelings are perfectly normal. Anyone who says they were not anxious/nervous, is full of it! However, you are in for one heck of a journey and this is simply the first step in getting there! The first day or so will not be easy, however you will get through it...and in a few weeks, this phase will be a distant memory. My wife and I were talking about it last night (I'm 5 months out and she is 3 months), as we were wrapping up our five mile walk...this new normal is freakin' awesome! LOL You are in for an awesome transformation and this is just a necessary part of getting there. Good luck and we'll keep you in our prayers. Enjoy the nap!
  14. I worried more about having a heart attack from being obese. Please don't think I'm minimizing your fear, I would not do so. Just relaying how I felt at the time. I agree with Cupcake...if it's your time, it's your time, only God knows when and how. I pray all goes well and you have nothing but smooth sailing! By the way, when you're a few months post op, I promise these emotions will be a distant memory...however you will need to begin shopping for all new clothes!

    Frustrated-

Hang in there...it will get better. I'm not a member of the Former Fat Folks Welcoming Committee, in fact I'm probably the most cynical fella you'll ever meet on this site (notice I said fella...because while I don't know her, trust me, laura-ven is by far the most in-your face person you'll ever meet! LOL). The weight loss will happen. Will it be easy. nope! But it will happen. Now as far as any other issues, they will still be there, waiting for you. However the new, transformed you will be able to tackle them, with much more energy, zest and confidence! Alright, get ready for it...BAM!" sports-guy chest bump!", now go out there and get back in the game! LOL Good luck!

    Before and After Pics

Awesome progress! Way to be an inspiration for others! As for losing faster, you didn't put it on overnight...53 lbs., gone for good! This isn't a sprint, it's a new you...don't beat yourself up!

    Cream of Tomato Soup

I ate tomato bisque about 8-10 days post-op and it was fine. However, my wife still cannot stomach it (she is almost 3 months out). While she has no problem with tuna fish, yet I cannot tolerate it at almost 5 months out. Some can, some cannot...so is life! LOL Good luck on your journey...an amazing transformation awaits you!

    Awesome transformation! Way to go!

    C section vs vsg pain.

No LBD, she was in one day and out the next...30 hours total. Her recovery at home wasn't as quick. I was up and at 'em after one day at home (no pain meds)...felt great after 4-5 days. My wife was on pain meds for a week and took her a few more days to really get going. I'm 4 1/2 mos. out and she is 2 1/2 months...haven't looked back! LOL

    Atkins?

If you have a Smoothie King near you, their Gladiator powder is by far the best! We keep a tub of chocolate and a tub of vanilla in our pantry. It is the only one we have found that completely dissolves and actually tastes good! Also, you can try one of the small Gladiator smoothies, to make sure you like it, prior to buying the 2 1/2 lb. tub. As for flavors, there are endless recipes on this site for protein shakes...we just tried the pumpkin pie recipe (Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, two scoops Gladiator vanilla protein, 2 tablespoons of pumpkin pie filling, cinnamon, nutmeg and a little splenda to taste) and it was great! Good luck on your journey!

    How old am I?

Hmmm, mid to late twenties...28. More importantly, when do we find out, suspense is killin' me!!! LOL

    C section vs vsg pain.

Can't speak from my own experience (thank God! LOL), but my wife has had a c-section...said this was far easier. She did have two hernias repaired during her surgery and her recovery was a bit longer than mine, but she said it was still no comparison. Good luck!
  24. Who Dat 70461

    Atkins?

You should try Premier Protein (Sam's Club)...30 grams of protein and far less of the bad stuff. They only carry chocolate and vanilla, but both are the best tasting I have found yet. If you want variety, mix with PB2, a banana or any number of extras. Good luck!

    2 months: progress so far

35 lbs., way to go! You won't be able to see it as quickly as others, especially those you do not see often. Congrats on the diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol...or lack thereof! Keep it up...aspire to inspire, before you expire!
