    Tasting Room - Protein Drinks

Dragon, Did you try EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control too, or just lite? The carb control is thinner, has cal/pro of 110/17. The Myoplex Lite has more stuff in it so its thicker at 170/20. It also has some muscle building stuff in it like HMB. The AdvantEdge line and the Myoplex line are really two separate products aimed at two different customers. I find the carb control very thin but myoplex would choke me out. All my best, Jay

    Hair growth after surgery?

Talk about a win-win! Were you not a big Protein eater before surgery?

Why is my doctor pushing for bypass?

Did he show you a chart with two weight loss curves over time, one for the sleeve one for the bypass? My PCP showed me one he had that showed the bypass lost more weight faster then the two lines stayed parallel with the sleeve never catching up. That was some national data out of some bariatric book, and it mightve been old for all i know. My Surgeon on the other hand showed me data compiled just in his practice. And his chart did show the bypass lost more weight quicker, but then the sleeve samples caught up at about 18 months. He's in a huge urban university practice so they've done as many sleeves as anybody in the country i'd bet. That's what sealed the deal for me. I also had an aggressive plan in mind for exercise and sports. I wanted full absorption. Jay

    Recovery set back

Where's your pain? Could it be the gas moving around? My gas didnt hit me till 5 days after surgery.

Why is my doctor pushing for bypass?

My PCP was recommending bypass to me as well. He said "you can outeat the sleeve and the band, but the malabsorptive aspect of the bypass increases your odds of success greatly." It's probably just being conservative on his part. PCPs have no idea WHY we overeat, so naturally they assume the behavior may reappear.

I'm trying to come to terms with the idea that...

    Thanks for the happy post!

    Acid Reflux Smoothie

I find all dairy and shakes aggravate my reflux to some extent. My doc just told me artificial sweeteners are bad for reflux. Ugh, theyre in EVERYTHING!

    Acid Reflux Smoothie

Do you mean it will CAUSE acid reflux? Because greek yogurt makes me wretch. And pineapple seems acidic - though I'm not positive it is. Are you a sufferer? Has it helped?

    Protein Shakes why?

I know what you mean. The Premier are THICK. You can cut them with Water or milk to make them more like chocolate milk. I'd hate to see you waste all that money.
  11. For #2 yes, definitely acclimate yourself to the "lab food" as I call it. Try shakes, bars, etc. Read labels. Learn which thicknesses and flavors you tolerate better than others. For #6 yes. It's a good idea even if you never have surgery. The idea is to feel full, from food. It makes you eat slower and it gives you quicker feedback when to stop eating. You'll feel what I'm talking about once you're post op. There's only a little room in there. You have to be intentional about what you fill it with! Your surgeon's team, particularly the nurses and nutritionists, will give you packets of data about how you'll eat and supplement in the various stages. Every one is slightly different. All my best, Jay

    Progress pic

Congrats! I bet you feel great!
  14. We dropped our monthly food budget by $100. We also split a cow with my brother and there's a bambi in the chest freezer alongside it, so we made out good on meat this winter. I'd guess I was eating close to half of what was consumed by the family in a given day, pre-op.

    Ugh! Opinions!

Probably Water. Don't sweat the small stuff. Just stick to the plan and you'll do great!

    Sororities and being stuck

Substitute! Raw veggie trays are always welcome at a gathering. If they wont provide one, bring a tray and make your selections from it. You'll be so full from them you won't feel any lure from the tacquitos, quiches loraines or finger sandwiches. As for the liquids, you can fake them out easy. Carbonated/soda Water, with ice cubes and a wedge of lime squeezed in it looks EXACTLY like a gin and tonic. Just don't let anybody taste it. You'll be getting your water and saving a bajillion calories. And then you can drive your sisters home after! If it's a red solo cup/keg party, apple juice looks like beer. Just cut it with water so you're not sugaring yourself too badly. Best of luck! Oh and don't worry if you're the most fit one at the party. There are worse problems to have!

    For your consideration: dynamic stretching

Ive coached all ages of youth hockey, from 8 year olds to high school seniors. One year, with a higher tier club, we had mandatory off ice conditioning once a week at one of these elite performance centers. They swore by dynamic warm-ups and went so far as to prescribe and teach a team wide warmup for practice and game days. Too many kids just do the 'lay on the ice and make snow angels' stretching. Needless to say, we'd warm them up, stretch them, and send them to the locker room with a little sweat to put their pads on. That season we had zero long term muscle or joint injuries. I fully believe in dynamic stretching. But the corollary is you gotta be warm! Don't go in cold. At the gym you can do most of it right on the treadmill.

    Can I take a bath?

Doc told me I could soak once all the steri-strips fell off (on their own!)

    Belly Fat

Often-repeated, targeted core exercises seem to help a lot. A lot of gyms offer specific classes that have you doing core-centric work.
  20. Saved... by the sleeve!
  21. Good for you! What a jerk. Who moves somebody else's stuff to take their seat. He's a first class A-hat. And I'm glad you got him back!

    Quest Cookies & Cream

Powercrunch is GOOD. The interior is like a sugar wafer. Thin and airy, not at all the chewy thickness Im used to! I will be sampling the Quest now of course. Cookies? GOOD. Cream. GOOD! (By the way, the Atkins cookies and creme - NOT good)

    Tasting Room - Protein Drinks

For RTDs, I've settled on premier and EAS low carb. I usually go vanilla since they seem to be the thinnest. Thin and easy flowing are important factors to my gag reflex. When I mix my own, I do Syntrax cappucino and Cookies n cream. And I over dilute them a little bit, again to make them thin.

    Stomach rumblingggg!

My stomach often sounds like a diesel truck sitting at idle after i eat. There's no pain and I cant associate it with acid or anything, so I assume its just one of those things we get to enjoy!

    hunger after meals

Are your meals consisting of filling foods that take a while to digest and pass? Are you drinking too soon after? If you're eating 5 small meals, there's not much time in between for anything but liquids - if you wait long enough. Where would you fit a snack in? If you DO need a snack, try turkey Jerky. The numbers are good on it, you get a real good 'chew' sensation, and I find it sits in the stomach a nice long time. Jay
