How Much Did You Lose 3 Months Out?
dkandsm replied to Bombs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have PCOS, insulin resistance, and hypothyroidism. I'm surprised that I am losing so fast (64 lbs. in 3 months - I was 263 the day of surgery) because I have never lost weight this fast before. It was hard for me to lose any weight regardless of how much exercise I did or how good my diet was. While I keep my carbs low, 20-30 grams per day, I don't necessarily pay attention to my fat intake. I eat full fat cottage cheese and other cheeses, butter/margarine (when I do eat it) and full fat Peanut Butter. I do measure everything I eat, though, and include it all in my food tracker. My skin is not too bad. My stomach and arms have some lose skin, and I'm sure it will get worse as I go along, but so far it's really not that bad. I do know I will have to have some plastics eventually. Everyone is different and some of us just lose slower than others. It's not because you are doing anything wrong. As long as you stick to your eating protocol, the weight is sure to come off. Good luck, girls! -
How Much Did You Lose 3 Months Out?

I was walking about 4 times per week, but haven't walked in a few weeks. I plan to start back soon. What I mostly do is eat low carb and track every single thing I eat. I ate 20 grams of carbs per day for about the first 2 months; then I started eating 30 grams per day to allow for more variety in my diet. There are days when I go over by a couple of grams, but I try to keep it at 30 or below. Good luck to you! -
How Much Did You Lose 3 Months Out?

I was 3 months out on Christmas Day (sleeved 09/25/2013) and have lost 64 lbs. I started at 263. ETA: current weight is 199 lbs. -
As frustrating and difficult as it is, stalls are a completely normal part of the process. Just keep following your protocol and it will break eventually. If you aren't watching your carbohydrate intake, you might try that to see if it makes a difference. I know what works for one, won't work for all. Our bodies are so different and complex in regards to metabolism, hormones, etc. Good luck!

December at Hospital Mi Doctor Review (Long)
dkandsm replied to Room404's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am a Dr. Cabrera patient and have done EXCELLENT! I was on the floor mainly with Dr. Valenzuela patients and they all spoke very highly of her and were pleased with their surgery. Many had been referred to her by former patients. I saw her on the floor everyday checking on her patients. As far as being taken out shopping or to eat ice cream, like Alighterme does, those are just minute things that really don't hold much value in the grand scheme of things. The most important aspect is that the surgical procedure was performed well, zero complications, and the overall well being of the patient - how they feel, how their pain level is, etc. My coordinator didn't take me out everyday and I still had a wonderful experience. I'd choose Dr. Cabrera again in a heartbeat. I think it's pretty crazy how everyone seems to think their individual doctor is superior to any other. Dr. Elias Ortiz might be good, even though he's so cheap, but I think we can agree that there are other good doctors there as well. Slamming one doctor, without having personal, first hand experience with them, only makes one look ridiculous in my opinion. -

I will definitely update! I totally understand about needing a boost. I was so scared and nervous as my surgery date was drawing near. I'm so glad I did it, though. -

September Sleevers How Much Have You Lost So Far?
dkandsm replied to jamill527's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on September 25th. I started at 263. My current weight is 217. My biggest obstacle is getting in at least 60 grams of protein daily. I don't drink protein shakes, and I'm not a huge meat eater, so it can be a challenge at times. -
I've lost a 2-year old, my husband lost a mid size microwave. You?
dkandsm replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 45 pounds I've lost is equivalent to an elephants heart and a guinea pig (or shoe, salami, box of butter, etc.). Woo!!!! -
I have always gotten palpitations, along with extreme fatigue, when my iron was low. For years now, I've been taking prescribed iron supplements. Also, hormones being out of whack can cause palpitations as well. These are just some of the minor causes. Of course, it could also be something more serious. You should definitely see your doctor to be checked out. A simple EKG and blood test can give all kinds of answers. Good luck! ETA: a heart attack does not discriminate; age doesn't matter.

I will be 8 weeks out tomorrow and I'm still doing perfectly well. I've lost 45 lbs. and I've gone down 3 sizes in jeans. My total cholesterol has gone from 236 to 148!! It's unbelievable to me how easy this surgery and recovery has been for me. I'm never hungry anymore, so eating really is quite the chore. There are times I have a treat, that I figure into my daily carb allotment, and I have had no issues whatsoever. I never feel deprived, either. This surgery is probably the best decision I have ever made for myself! I was originally supposed to have surgery in early May, but I chickened out. I had read a lot of "complication stories," or just negativity in general, and I got too scared to go forward with surgery because I was so hung up on the "what ifs." Now, I majorly regret not following through as originally planned. I am very happy that I worked up the courage and had this surgery in the end, for sure! I hope that helps reassure you.

Day of surgery: 263 Current weight: 219 When I started soft solids, I started tracking my daily food intake and would obsess over it. I never drank my Protein shakes, so ensuring that I got at least 60 grams of protein in per day (via food) was stressful for me and took a while for me to get used to. It is easier to deal with now, but eating seems like more of a chore than anything.

I had surgery on September 25th in TJ. I've been on real food (soft solids and then regular diet at 6 wks.) since I was 2 wks. post op. I've lost 44 lbs. so far and doing great!

Period Issues Post Surgery?
dkandsm replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been having problems, as well. I have spotted between periods and I am late starting my period this month... even though I've been pretty regular, pre op. I think it's pretty normal to have problems until our hormones level out. -
A few days before TOM, I suffer from non-stop hunger. It's like my mouth is in a constant state of salivation. lol. This is the point I'm currently at, too. Ugh.

Daily Protein, Sugar, Fat Goals/limits
dkandsm replied to outwithbenjiboi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat an average of 600 calories per day, try to get in at least 60 grams of Protein, and no more than 20 grams of carbs per day (almost never eat 20 grams). Fat is usually around 27 grams per day. I've been losing well following this, so I'm sticking with it. I do allow myself one splurge day per week, which is usually Saturday. I don't splurge all day, but this is the day I will have a taste of dessert or something else I've been craving outside of the guidelines I've set for myself. -
Whos in September? We need some September buddies!
dkandsm replied to janie2024's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow and have lost 44 lbs. Animal protein is really starting to gross me out, but I still choke it down anyway. I don't like eating anymore; it seems like more of a chore than anything. I had blood work drawn two weeks ago and learned that my total cholesterol has gone from 236 to 148! I was shocked, but super happy! Tons of good thoughts being sent to our fellow September sleeved. I hope all turns out okay with her.... -
Aside from Water, the only other thing I drink is Diet Peak Tea (found in the refrigerated section at the store) with a packet of True Lemon. It's delish! ETA: This is the brand http://www.goldpeaktea.com/Flavors#/diet. The diet tea can be hard to find, but Walmart and Super Target carry it. Kroger is hit or miss. They have smaller bottles that are not refrigerated, but they have a weird flavor that I don't like.

Feb 4 2014 @ MI Doctor TJ Dr Cabrera
dkandsm replied to waternazi's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery on September 25th of this year and used Dr. Cabrera with no problems at all. This was a super easy surgery for ME. Personally, I didn't think Mi Doctor was bad at all. The night nurses did not speak English as well as the day nurses, but they did understand it. I think they like to pretend they don't, however. lol. Freespirit, which surgeon are you going with? I will be going back at the beginning of January as a support person for my sister. I'm excited! -
All SEPTEMBER 2013 SLEEVERS..Check in here!
dkandsm replied to Heather M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on September 25th, will be 6-weeks post op tomorrow, and am down 37 lbs. (started at 263). I very rarely get over 600 calories per day, although I have a couple of times, and keep my carbs at 20 grams or less per day. It can be challenging at times, but I'm managing. I had blood work done recently and my total cholesterol has gone from 236 to 148!!!! I'm so happy! ETA: Congratulations to you all on your weight loss!!! -
I've been walking and jogging (attempting to, anyway lol) outside, but I just started a couple of days ago. I installed the Couch 2 5K app on my phone and plan to start that tomorrow. I hope I can hang in there and do it!
