This post is for any lurking pre sleevers who may be reading: just got a stressful call from the hospital telling me I wasn't covered for the sleeve op (item code 30518) by my health fund and I would have to pay $12,000.00 by next week. They had a written rejection from my fund.I have already paid $1,800.00 to the anaesthetist and am about to pay $6,000.00 to Dr Mosse. I checked with my fund before starting this whole process a few months ago and got given the all clear.Fortunately I insisted on a file note being added to my health fund notes when I rang. After many frustrating calls it turns out that-yes-I am covered and only have to pay $125.00 excess. There was a 'computer glitch' (hmmm) at my health fund's end.Ironic as their web page boasts that they cover bariatric surgery (two year waiting period). So get a written assurance if you can, or at least record the name or id of the person helping you, when checking with a health fund about the sleeve.Hope this helps someone avoid the horrible morning I have had.

Day 5 preop and no more headaches:)Yay! People at work are commenting on my weight loss (even tho the scales haven't changed much) and how tired I look. They think I am sick I am saying with a smile "Thanks I am on a strict medically supervised diet and everything is fine" then I ask how they are travelling.Works well as a distraction cos people love to talk about themselves! Lol! I have found in the past that as the weight really comes off people aren't so interested in how much you eat. When I met up with my slim bestie recently she ordered a cooked breakfast while I had a coffee. The waiter-who took the order in the first place-put this huge meal in front of me and looked surprised when I gave it to my friend I know this will change after the sleeve.

Hi Brendan.I am on day 3 of the opti now and I have suddenly lost my hunger!! It feels weird! I have struggled for so long to control my hunger and the feeling of lack of fullness.I am a little shaky but I am racing around with two kids and on my feet at work and cooking family meals. I have decided that the headaches and bad breath are good cos it means my liver is shrinking.Thinking of u on yr first opti day.

Thanks misty.Yes I am on one non- starchy vege, lean meat and low dairy meal a day plus a Centrum supp for women. So it sounds like the options you were given for liver shrinkage.I already have a headache so I know I am on track so far.Lol! Good news about your Water intake - you are so determined to do this properly.

Hi everyone.Well, I am on day one of the preop modified very low calorie diet and hoping that two Optifast meals a day won't give me a rash or violent tummy problems.(If anyone else here is interested I can post the modified preop diet for people who are reactive to the opti). My three year old curious son who always wants to eat what I do is very puzzled. He is slurping on a milo dessert he wanted because I was soldiering thru a optifast choc dessert for lunch-he is so cute Dr Mosse is still ordering urgent tests for me even tho the surgery date is in 2 weeks.I have to have an oesphageal manometry test now (to check for swallowing problems). So his final words to me on Mon were to start the diet, fill in the hospital paperwork and consent, but that he may not do the operation! He is so thorough I have already spent over $1000 on tests alone. Trying to stay positive and really appreciating reading this forum.

Lol! Did a big double take reading this one Brendani ) Starting to fight the urge to 'last supper' myself. I know that I will eventually eat just about everything I like after the sleeve - just in teensy portions. All those years of dieting and calorie counting have done my head in.

I am now wondering if all the posts I have read about the problem of losing the last 10 or so kilos after a sleeve is actually about carrying the weight of the loose skin rather than true body fat.
