    Whole Wheat Bowls

thanks- I have seen a lot of recipes for Quinoa porridge - which is high in protein and fibre. Some look quite nice. I did do a "risotto" with Quinoa which was actually really tasty. Maybe google some recipes to try?
  2. Are you on stomach acid reducer? 4 weeks after surgery, they took me off those tablets and hunger came roaring back; as soon as I went back on them, the hunger went away. Having said that, it seems that maybe your issue is more like mine - boredom fuelling food. I am learning ( not perfect) that I just have to say "no" to that and find something else to do.. Good Luck!

    Officially overweight not obese!

    congratulations!
  5. I suspect like many as a YO-YO Dieter, I had a variety of "smaller" clothes which I had (briefly) fitted into over the past 10 years lurking in my wardrobe. Before I lost 70 pounds, I was buying US size 20, UK Size 22 and European Size 50.( tight squeeze true and I was probably 1 size bigger of each but I always bought the flare dress and the comfort trousers to keep up the illusion). So all those clothes look ridiculous now. It's not just that they are baggy but without the stomach and the boobs to drape , they are 4 inches longer which as I am under 5ft is a lot... And I have worked through my "smaller" purchases so that they too are looking very big too so my ( very fashionable 20 year old )daughter had one of those "Mum - you have got to get some new clothes" severe chat with me. What to buy..? The cheaper option is probably the internet since I do not live in either the UK or USA , and these are not my "final" clothes after all. So onto M&S ,wearing my tailored trousers ( M&S size 20) with the crotch now hanging mid thigh . What size to buy? I get out my tape measure and look at their size chart - apparently I should now buy a 24-26 (UK Size) What !! What size was I before?? My daughter who thinks I am old = idiot, tells me I must be wrong and goes onto a generic site - which tells methat I need a size 30(UK), size 32( USA) OR size 56 (Europe). Anyone else lost pounds and gained dress sizes??

    clothes sizes - AGH!

Too True From my young Skinny days I have some UK size 8s and 10s which I really loved and kept as aspirational "I will fit in these again". My daughter, a current UK Size 10, can't squeeze into them at all.
  7. Thanks very much for the input.
  8. Hi I have read a suggestion, which I am trying, of almond oil with a small quantity ( few drops) of a citrus aromatherapy oil - lemon or grapefruit- to help shrink the skin. Best Christine
  9. hi so sorry to hear about your circumstances- that's tough. are you on any tablets to reduce stomach acid? I found that when I stopped those, I had a mid afternoon sugar low. When I was put back on them, that went away. My NUT says I should be eating 6 times a day. What he recommends is have a single Protein shake which is divided in thirds. So Breakfast (egg and tiny bit of toast - often cannot finish), Mid morning 1/3 shake, lunch (100gcottage cheese) Mid Afternoon 1/3 shake, dinner (50g meatloaf, gravy and 20g spinach), evening 1/3shake. I am 3 months out
  10. Thanks for response I did not have the hernia before the surgery. The surgery caused the hernia apparently. judging from the response on this site, it is not as usual a problem as my surgeon depicted.
  11. Hi Just had my 8 week review with surgeon and he suspects that I have a small abdominal hernia. He tells me its one of those things occasionally with laproscopic surgery, not anything I have done. I had this area of sharp pain to the side of my big incision immediately after the surgery and it has not gone away. I suspect he is right. I need to have a CT scan to confirm. He tells me that it is "minor" surgery but having just had weeks off work with the sleeve surgery I am worried about having more. Has anyone else had this? Was the surgery under general? Will I make it worse if I exercise ( apart from hurting obviously)? Is it ok to not get it fixed immediately? Thanks for your advice.
  12. I am travelling to the USA on business in April. Obviously there are restrictions on bringing food and drink to the US from Europe. I have enough problems bringing Swiss chocolate as gifts so I don't want to be held up explaining powder at Customs, especially as it takes long enough to get through immigration and I have a connecting flight! I thought to order ( probably from Amazon) some Ready made Protein shakes ( no easy access to milk ) and have them delivered to my hotel. I will be 12 weeks post surgery. Can you please recommend a ready made shake which I could order? I don't like anything too sweet. Many Thanks
  13. Thanks very much for your suggestions.
  14. The first meal post surgery in hospital was a cup of milky coffee... My NUT said no more than 500 ml per day of caffeinated drinks.. Everyone has different advice. If I am out and about, I will often have a Latte as a "snack" to add to my Protein tally.

    Am I too old?

Hi It was being older that frightened me to do it.. Looking at my mother who cannot walk (knees), has dementia and is blind(both because of strokes), made me certain I did not want that in my future. Before I hit menopause, I always fooled myself that the answer was just (another) diet away but after menopause even on the strictest diet I only lost a pound a month and put it back on my first business trip. So no, you are not too old to change your future..
  16. Sorry - it is really hard to describe this. I am on soft foods per my surgeon ( 2.5 weeks out) I had very small meal of salmon in sauce with mashed cauliflower florets. Presumably I ate too fast or didn't chew well enough. Suddenly , had this lumpy feeling like food was stuck above the stomach. Stopped eating and for next hour threw up foam and slime. However, eight hours later still have this lumpy feeling and its painful. Sipping Fluid does not help. Has anyone else experienced this please? Does it pass? Have I done something to myself? Would really appreciate feedback Many Thanks
  17. thank you for the reassurance Actually, I was put on puree food at day 3 and soft food at day 6 (!) whilst still in hospital.. When I got back home, I decided to go back to full liquids for 3 days as I felt very rushed. I live in Switzerland and this is the process in hospitals here. The first "meal" post surgery wasa cup of milky coffee! I am aware that this is radically different than the process outlined on this site and in the manybooks I have read but the NUT is pressurising me to eat soft food. My big concern is the persistent "lump" feeling under my bra strap at back. Just doing liquids today as a precaution but it is not easing. Will talk to someone tomorrow if not better. Many thanks

    High blood pressure

Hi I had surgery on 21.1.14 and my blood pressure which was fine before surgery was sky high after. Doctors said a response to pain and anaesthetic. Two weeks after, it is still higher than it was. I had stitches out today and doctor noted till a bit high but wasn't worried ( 144/85)and will continue to monitor
  19. Hi I was sleeved on 21 Jan and my blood pressure, which was not a problem before, has been through the roof since. My doctor told me it was a side effect of Anaesthetic, plus pain, and they will monitor. hopefully not a long term issue
  20. Hi I am 7 days post op. I had pain in shoulder from the gas about day 3 after surgery plus gas pain and "discharge" down. However, now, a couple of days on, as I eat on drink anything , I get a pain in the shoulder . It's not extreme but noticeable. I am careful about quantity, eating over 20 minutes, eating what I have been told etc. I am fairly certain that I am not eating too much. Is this the "tell" that my pouch is full? Are there others? Someone on here mentioned hiccups as a sign to stop? Or is this a sign of a problem brewing? Thanks for advice and hints

What Spiritual Books Have Helped You?

Hi "Sweet Grace" is about the journey by a Christian WLS patient and I have read a couple of times - very helpful insight. Author is Teresa Shields Parker Books by Rita Hancock Christine
  22. Hi There I use "Walk away the pounds" from Leslie Sansone so you can walk in your living room with a bit of company . Lots of clips on you tube to try to see if you like her chatty style. Best C
  23. Hi In every town you mention there is a nutrition store called "Holland and Barrett" which has a wide range of Protein shakes. They have helpful staff so you should be able to find one with the right nutritional profile as advised by your surgeon since it may be necessary to have one or two of the meals as shakes if you find the restaurant eating a challenge. English restaurants are not SO used as American ones to having customers specify how they want things. Generally Breakfast will be a synch- poached eggs, scrambled eggs, omelettes, kippers ( soft smoked fish) or porridge will always be available somewhere on the menu. lunch and dinner will be tougher. You might want to look for stews/casseroles where the meat is cooked soft or fish ( sorry not cod and chips). Fish cakes are often on menus and they tend to be soft but don't forget that they are fried so not the lowest calorie.Often the inside of pies will have stewed meat and veg in a gravy- just don't eat pastry crust. Most of the vegetables will be quite soft. Just remember to ask for not to be covered in oil or butter -a common practice in UK. ENJOY!

    Gastrectomies are not new

I dreaded telling a friend what I was planning since she lost the remainder of her stomach when the cancer returned. I thought she would tell me not to destroy a healthy stomach. She has, actually, been very supportive as she knows my struggles. Actually, knowing what she was able to eat before with 40% of her stomach and what she can eat now with none has been very helpful. I think the reason partial is not used for comparison as they have to remove the damaged bits which may not be the same as that removed in WLS so hard for comparison since hormone centres etc are specific to area. and with no stomach, its a lot more extreme than even Gastric Bypass - she suffers from dumping after everything she eats however healthful.
