Was anyone not a snacker before surgery?

That's good to know! I would be open to doing something like that! Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST
  2. I've watched my eating habits for a long time and I can honestly say that I'm not a snacker. I overeat during meals, yes, that's my very bad habit. I'll overeat a lot. I used to drink my calories in juice too but have since stopped buying juice before surgery. But in between meals? No. I don't snack. I don't like snack foods either. Just 3 meals a day. Was anyone else like this? How did it fare after surgery for you? Did you suddenly get the urge to graze or something afterward? Everyone says snacking is the devil and since I never did that in the first place, I'm worried I'll pick that habit up Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

TMI: is throwing up different on the sleeve?

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences guys! I know it's a weird question but vomiting is horrible for me so it's something I always have to take into account when I do things that can induce it! Sounds like it's not as bad after surgery. I hate the retching part. It's the worst! I'm also glad I decided on sleeve and not RNY. I couldn't deal with throwing up tons of food due to intolerance. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST
  4. I'm pre op too. I'm 23 with a BMI of 43. I was not heavy my whole life. It all began to come on when I was 11 and snowballed. I have PCOS. I would like to get back to a normal weight and be healthy again. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

    Fatty Liver ?

Obesity causes fatty liver. Weight loss doesn't. That's the solution! You probably had fatty liver before when you were overweight and it didn't get dx until now. Many obese people have fatty liver and may not even know it. It's actually becoming a common problem. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

how does it affect your relationship/marriage afterwards?

Maybe he's just uncomfortable and worried for you? It seems like many partners are worried for us, like the risks and whatnot. My boyfriend was very worried and not very supportive in the beginning. Once I got the chance to educate him, he has done a complete turnaround. I think he thought there was a high risk of me dying or something. It's a huge surgery yes but I wouldn't rate it as a very, very very high risk one where I could easily die on the table. how does it affect your relationship/marriage afterwards?

Lol, yeah my boyfriend is very very skinny. He used to be underweight but he is more "normal" now. He eats pretty healthy too. Actually, if he eats too much on accident, he will throw up or be very uncomfortable so maybe he'll understand how I will feel in the future about needing to stick to strict portion control! I am concerned about the insecurity bit. I would not say my boyfriend is really insecure but he gets angry at other guys who make passes at me when he's there or guys who gawk at me. 8. I'm a pre op. When I was younger and closer to a normal weight, I enjoyed a lot of fun activities... Mountain hiking, skiing, sailing, biking on trails in the woods, etc. I've had to give up these more strenuous activities because of my weight and this saddens me. I look forward to getting back into these activities in the future once I'm healthier. My question is, how do you keep hydrated after the sleeve with these activities? It's not like you can just sip from a bottle that's right next to you when you're at the gym. I'm worried I'll get sleeved and then because of dehydration risk, I will be unable to participate in some of these activities. Anyone have any advice? Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

keeping hydrated during very strenuous outdoor activities?

I like that idea a lot! Thank you! I've never thought about that. I've never used one either. How much can one hold at a time? It doesn't make the Water taste weird and plastic-y? I'm really worried about getting too dehydrated and ending up in the hospital. That would be awful. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

how does it affect your relationship/marriage afterwards?

Thanks. I was well into morbid obesity when he said he wanted a relationship with me. I've never worried about him not being attracted to me but I do wonder how he will react when he sees me "normal" or very very close to a normal weight. It's different I think when you've been married for decades and you were "normal" when you met your spouse. I'll be a whole new me to him. I hope he likes it. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

Did Your Mirena Affect Your Surgery

I got Mirena for pre op. Because the surgeon recommended it. It won't cause blood clots, he said. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

    birth control...

My surgeon told me to stop BC at least 2 weeks prior and to stay off it for at least 6 moths after. I'm still pre op. I went off my pill and had a Mirena IUD inserted in. I've had it for a month and a half and I love it so far. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

Anyone have 6 month diet waived by insurance?

No, I'm afraid not. I'm in NY. But it's still BCBS. I don't know how much they differ vastly between states. Now, this was a NEW policy change. I looked into WLS 2 years ago and BCBS had everyone doing pre op diet. You had to lose x% amount of weight in order to get approval. Now they only require that for banders.

Anyone have 6 month diet waived by insurance?

I have BCBS plan and I don't need the pre op diet at all. I'm not even a special case. My BMI is 43. I asked the surgeon and he said that they only require pre op diet for gastric banders. Sleeve and bypass people don't have to do it, although they need to do nutritional counseling which I am finishing up now. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

I am so sick of water!

I used to hate it too. Then I started working at a hospital with filtered Water machines everywhere and I'm always sucking water down now. I did end up getting used to it but I'm thinking I have it easier because I never drank much soda. juice, now that's my weakness. Crystal lite is good, or even just some lemon lime and cucumber. hello! new here!

Hi everyone! I'm going to get the sleeve this summer. I have one more nutritional consult and then I can schedule the surgery. I already know the surgeon too. Insurance is going to pay for everything. I'm 23 and my BMI is 43. Dreadful, I know. I'm currently 285 lb. I like to play "guess my weight" with people and everyone says 230. I wish I were that weight! I've been obese for years now but I wasn't always overweight. I was an active, slim child until I was 11. When puberty came, my weight blew up. My eating habits got worse. I felt bad about my body so I didn't dress well. I've watched through the years as I've slowly been less and less able and happy to do physical activities that I used to love. Like intense hiking and skiing and even swimming for long distances. Used to do them when I was younger but I can't anymore. I do still enjoy walking. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18. I have not truly ovulated in years. I am not really worried about that because my long term boyfriend and I do not want children. I even have an IUD inside of me to be extra careful. But I hate how insulin resistant I am. I already have to eat mostly Protein and low carb because carbs make me feel so terrible. I am on metformin but I just admit, I am not complaint with any dose over 1000mg because I can't stand the nausea and loose stools. Oh and the sweating. How has regular diets worked for you? Terrible for me. I did Jenny Craig even. I liked most of the food but didn't see much loss. I've done several diets but nothing really works. I've had personal training too. I AM TERRIFIED OF GETTING DIABETES. Health is my biggest reason. I see so many obese people at my work, with so many problems. They are all getting sick and dying early. I don't want that to be me. I want to be here for as long as possible. My weight has snowballed especially in the past 2 years. I considered the bypass 2 years ago. I did qualify then. I did everything including the pre op weight loss but chickened out at the last moment. I was so scared of the potential deficiencies and dumping. Now I'm a little older and I can finally say I am ready. I'm glad I waited because I think the sleeve is perfect for me and even just 2 years ago, it was not being touted much at all since it was new. The surgeon told me he would he happy to operate on me. I'm definitely ready. I live with my very skinny but healthy eating boyfriend of 2 years, who is my best friend of 6 years. Our relationship is very loving and he is very attracted to me as I am now and we have a good sex life, I know he'll love the thinner me too. I hate how I weigh over twice as much as him. He's 135. He is supportive. My parents are health care providers and also are supportive. I actually work (I'm a grad) at a hospital, the same one where I will have this surgery. I am basically a tech and an aide and I assist all sorts of patients, including WLS patients. I see them in various states after surgery, both good and bad. I've talked to many about how they are feeling and we chat. The bypass patients seem to upchuck more but that's my experience. I scared about the physical pain and having a bladder catheter. I'm a little nervous about having my surgery in the same hospital where I work, my parents work, and where I know everyone (the nurses) but I know this surgeon and he's top notch. That's basically my story. My weight has not ruined my life but it has crippled it. I can't enjoy my life fully. I miss doing things I used to enjoy. I want to be able to kick this insulin hunger. I need to do this now while I'm young and not wait. I know I could easily get to 400 in the coming years. Why wait? My weight has nowhere to go but down from here.

    hello! new here!

Thanks! Yeah I'm hearing that a lot, that I should do it sooner than later. I want to. I don't want to be any heavier than I am right now and I couldn't imagine living to my 30s like this. I guess the thing that kind of stinks about doing it when I'm younger is that I do relax with a drink (just one, I'm a lightweight lol) a few times a month with friends/boyfriend, and I'm giving that up for at least a year to heal. But still, not a big deal at all! Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

    Sleeve vs. bypass

Dumping syndrome, anemia, nausea, possibility of obstruction, increased complication rate, more recovery time, etc. Osteoporosis runs in my family big time. Why would I want to set myself up for serious deficiencies that could make it hard for me to survive a light fall without splintering something? Bad idea. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST
