  1. Well' date=' I made it through. These past few days have been rough, but manageable. To be honest with you, I was completely out of it yesterday. However, I made myself get up as much as possible to walk the halls. This morning was the roughest for me, and think it has to do with the oral pain medication. I have twice; the first was from drinking too fast (it may have been my first foamie?), but the second was definitely related to the medicine. I'm pushing to get as much liquid in as possible, but like so many people have said before, it is tough. I guess I kinda took it for granted. Anyway, the point of all this is to say I made it through two days, and I'm starting to feel a tad bit better. I've got a long way to go, but at least I've finally begun the journey![/quote']

Congrats on your surgery!! Im jst 3 weeks out myself. The first week is tough, but honestly everyday is a little better then the day before. It took my at least 5 days to be able to actually drink 16-24 oz of Water. It was painful to swallow. By the second week, it was not bad at all and found I could get in 64 oz. the key s to just take small sips, and try not to get to much air when you swallow! That was and still is my biggest issue! I never realized that when I drink I gulp!

  2. Hello everyone' date=' I am not a teacher yet, but I am finishing my last year of school which consist of two student internships. By the time I step into my internship classroom I will only be a week and three days out form surgery, so I'm not sure how I will feel and I know I still will not be able to lift anything too heavy. I wanted to ask all of you should I explain to the teacher I am working with my situation or only if I absolutely need to? My worst fear is that he or she will think I am being difficult.[/quote']

I can't imagine you'll do much lifting at all. I wouldn't even worry about telling your cooperating teacher about it. By 8 days out i felt great, and ad resumed most of my daily activity. I did my student teaching 13 years go, but the first few weeks all I did was shadow the teacher and help the kids in centers. I did kindergarten and grade 5! Could be a totally different situation by now LOL! Good luck with your surgery, and your student teaching!

  3. I think u r suppose to go off total carbs. It sounds like we are both at a stall. I eat yoplait greek yogurt. Their vanilla flavor is really good and it doesnt have that greek yogurt taste. I don't know off hand the carbs but it's super low. I know it's less than chobani. How r u feeling? I'm taking my Vitamins but I'm feeling super tired still. I don't want to do anything.

Ill have to ask my doctor about the carb thing. I was really tired the first few days, but after like day 5 I have been fine. I swear I can't sleep at all at night. I just took Benadryl to hopefully fall asleep at a normal hour. I'm up and moving sound like usual. I went school shopping for my kids today for 3 hours, then took my daughter to a horse farm and walked all over. What type of Vitamins are you taking? My only thing is my left side above my incision where she cut through the stomach muscle is still killing me. Every now and then I ave to take a muscle relaxer if I over do it with activity. It's hard I forget I had surgery so I catch myself picking stuff up that I'm not suppose to or bending the wrong way and I get a sharp pain. I hope you get your energy back soon!

  4. @ca530 im barely eating carbs. I would say maybe 15grams. I'm mostly still drinking a lot' date=' ie my Protein shakes, Water, Crystal light, and watered down cranberry juice. If I do have carbs it's from cheese.

    Day of surgery 224

    Today 210

    I'm only 5 feet![/quote']

I've been eating Greek yogurt and Protein Bars. The bars say only 3 grams of net carbs. But I don't know if I'm suppose to be counting net carbs or carbs listed on the package. I getting about 40 grams of carbs a day. Because of those 2 things.

    HW 272.6

    Surgery weight 252.6

    CW 238

    I'm only 5'5 so I'm

    Not that tall either!

  5. I had surgery 7/15 and have only lost 14lbs. This past week' date=' I haven't lost anything. Im sure im part of that 3 week stall I hear about on here. I hope it passes soon so I can start losing again![/quote']

I was sleeved on 7/15 too, I'm only down 14 as well I think! Trying to go by my doctors scale which is 2 pounds lighter then mine at home. I only lost 1 pound this week. How many carbs are you eating in a day? I'm starting to wonder if I'm eating to many.

  6. I was sleeved last week Tuesday (7/16)' date=' so I'm 6 days out & I'm **STARVING!** What's up with that??

I must be doing something wrong. Here I'll list what I've had today, maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong:

Breakfast ~ (oops, this one is hard to list since I ate the reminder 1/8 of a container I had of Kroger's Private Selection Amber Honey Greek Yogurt) If I had eaten the entire yogurt, it would have been 11 grms of Protein but I hate it in increments yesterday.

Drank Water, drank Water, drank water

lunch ~ Premier Protein shake, Vanilla flavor, 30 grams of Protein, mixed with 6 oz of Decaf coffee

Drank water, drank water, drank water

dinner ~ Yoplait 100 calorie Greek Lime flavored yogurt with 10 grams of protein

snack ~ nectar Cappuccino Latte 24 grms protein, 100 Cal

If I can count all the liquids from the protein drinks, then I've had 72 oz liquids & maybe 66 grms of protein? I'm just adding at the top of my head. Sorry if I'm off.

Shouldn't ALL THAT keep me full? I swear, right now I feel I could eat a sandwich! LOL! (J/K), but hungry enough to eat something!

Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Spell it out because I'm sorta dense...just sayin'.

    Thanks fellow senior sleevers! [/quote']

I was sleeved on the 15, and I'm surprised you can get all that in! Today was the first day that I was able to get an entire shake down within a half hour! Sounds like your doing awesome with your routine! It probably s only head/eye hunger. If you still feel really hungry, can you drink another shake, or a yogurt? Do you have a calorie limit for a day?

  7. Yes! I think it just all depends. I wouldn't of eaten a steak...but thr dr did ok the Beans. The chicken salad was put in the nutrabullet and made very mushy. I felt so much better. I was becoming easily annoyed! I was cleared for fish today and it was great!

I can't wait to try fish or chicken. I figured a meatball was already pretty mushy! I'll try the chicken salad in the bullet as well, still kind of nervous about the chunks. When your full, do you actually feel full like before surgery, or is it something else letting you know enough? I have not felt full, but I get bubbles in my stomach, if I take another bite after that I get a little pain. Do you get that ever?

  8. I was sleeved on the 8th and told to do full liquids for two weeks. By 11 I had to have something solid. I ate watered down refried Beans with melted cheese and mixed my Protein powder in it. On day 13 I ate chicken salad. I did fine. My dr approved the Beans and the chicken salad was done one day early.

I think it all depends on how your body heals and your doctors rules. I originally wasn't suppose to start solid foods for another 3 weeks. Today he told me to start puréed and gradually start soft food. I was shocked how quick he pushed me along. I tried an egg was good. Had a meatball was fine. I actually feel better today then I have all week!

  9. Since you like to be so so nice..... Actually I did and she said that that would be considered more of a soft food and I should wait. She did say that it was good that I tolerated it so well. She suggested adding more kinds of puréed foods first. So..... Maybe all the oh so loving and nice people will be happy with that!!!

Well if it makes you feel any better, I saw my doctor today and he said to start purée food today and gradually move to soft food by this weekend or by next Monday. Well for Breakfast I had a scrambled egg, and for dinner I ate a meatball! There was NO pureeing involved! He told me that the two stages are basically the same and just to make sure that I chew all food very good so it was the consistency of applesauce. Yup I did it.. I broke the rules..

  10. I was sleeved on Monday' date=' July 15th. I'm really ready for the mushy stage. Do you think some people can handle it more than others?? I had wonton Soup last night and ate 2 wontons with no problem. It filled me up too!! I have the feeling of hunger and it won't go away!! I'm ready to try a few things?? What do y'all think???[/quote']

I was sleeved on the 15 too, I would not eat anything that isn't approved by your surgeon yet. You might feel like you can handle it, but they have go in stages so your staple line can heal to avoid leaks. If you feel your ready, call your doctor and ask.

  11. Has anyone had a problem with restless legs after surgery? I had surgery on June 26 and the last few days I have had the most horrible restless legs especially at night when I am trying to go to sleep. I have never had a problem with this before. Any insight into what could be causing this would be great! Thanks.

I was just telling my sister who's an anesthesiologist about the restless leg and arms last night. She told me its common to have after surgery because of the pain meds. also said probably gonna have some crazy dreams. I don't know if your still taking any but I taking toradol and flexeral. Needless to say after last night I'm going 100% Tylenol! Hope this helps..

  12. If you dislike the thick Protein shakes' date=' you may want to try Syntrax nectar flavors such as Roadhouse Lemonade, Iced Tea, and Fuzzy Navel -- very light and you mix them with cold Water.

You can get a sample pack from BJ's Bariatrics here:

    http://www.bjsbariatrics.com/product/synSamplePack.html

And from some other places as well.

I really recommend holding off on buying full tubs of Protein powder until after surgery because it is really true, you may like something beforehand and hate it after! That happened to me.

I just ordered 2 sample packs! Never new that site existed! Thank you!

  13. Premier Protein shake tastes fine but a couple sips is all I can manage in 30 minutes.

    Is this normal?

Sipping Water between sips of Protein shakes.

I can only drink about 2 oz of premiere protein in an hour. I pour a 4 oz glass and sip it until its gone for Breakfast. Then just try to get in Water. I'm 6 days post op and its hard getting in anything! A few sip in 30 min is fine. They told me to try a ounce every 15 min. I have to work at it, but can do it. Good luck to you!

  14. Has anyone had a problem with restless legs after surgery? I had surgery on June 26 and the last few days I have had the most horrible restless legs especially at night when I am trying to go to sleep. I have never had a problem with this before. Any insight into what could be causing this would be great! Thanks.

It's funny you mention this today.. I had restless legs and I swear it was In my arms too last night! It was awful! I was up all night stretching and tightening my arms and legs, it was driving me insane!! I have no clue where it came from or why!

  15. Hi all! I'm having my surgery August 8th yikes! Lol.. I'm starting my preop diet this week and I'm tasting Proteins so far I really dislike the premium chocolate its too thick... I don't know much about Protein can anyone suggest Protein shakes?? Thank you

I like premiere Protein Shakes in chocolate. I think they taste like a fudgecicle. They have 160 calories and 30 grams of protein. I drank them pre-op and just started the full liquid stage of post op and they are still really good! If you have a BJ's or Sam's club where you live you can get a case of 12 for 17.99. Good luck to you!!

  16. I have survived 4 days of my 4 week liquid diet and it gets easier each day! My biggest concern is that my surgery date is one week before school starts. I will have my room ready and will have weeks worth of lessons completed' date=' but I am concerned that I may not feel ready. I teach Special Education and fear missing the first few days. I teach HS at a career center so ALL of the students are new to the school and they are always nervous. Did anyone go back to school after a week?[/quote']

I was sleeved on the 15, if I had to I could go back to work on Monday. One week after surgery. Not that it would be ideal, if you have a lot of the work done already, and are not going to be running sound all du long, you will probably be ok. Your probably going to be exhausted, but I think you can o it. Go by how you feel. If you think you'll need more time then take it, just make sure you take care of yourself! Good luck
