May 3 - down 46lbs...eating pretty normal just smaller quantities
-
Also..just wanted to share this..I know people preach..no carbs no carbs..but...I stalled a few days...and was eating 500-600 calories...I decided my body was in starvation mode..so set out to increase my calories..only way I could really increase them was to add more carbs...so I started snacking on graham crackers with nutella..a favorite before the surgery..and now I am back to losing 1/2 a pound per day again...and that's without strenuous exercise as I will start that now that I am at 6 weeks..that put me up to about 900 calories per day..I feel better and am losing weight again...

How do you get away with ordering off of the kids menu? Do you just explain to the waitress that you had surgery?
Yep, that's exactly what I did..and they had no problem with it..

sleeved on May 3..down 28lbs over all...

I am almost 4 weeks post op now..and feeling great. I am over the hump I think...sometimes I wonder if they did anything (if not for the fact that I can only eat tiny amounts)..because I haven't thrown up once, only been nauseated once or twice..and am eating darn near everything (with common sense)...I eat grilled chicken breast, grilled veggies, rice, potatoes, Jello, pudding, eggs, cheese, ice cream, heck..even had some pizza toppings (no crust)..I seem to tolerate everything..but the key is that I eat very small amounts..and I chew it well..takes about an hour to finish about a cup of food. I am getting in around 70gms of Protein with only one supplemental shake...taking in an average of 600 calories a day..have lost 28lbs thus far and am fitting in to clothes I havent' worn since before getting pregnant..and now that I can actually eat some stuff, the social part of this isn't so bad either. We went to Red Lobster on Memorial Day and I ordered the kids garlic grilled shrimp meal with veggies...ate about 75% of it...and felt very happy. Those first couple of weeks just really suck...hope all you other May sleevers are doing well!

Has anyone been experiencing severe nausea, diarrhea and sometimes vomiting (I eat slow and have tiny mouthfuls) when on purée foods? I'm current feeling really ill every time I eat. I am eating all organic foods too so no preservatives.
Is this normal?
I would definitely as the doctor..these could be leak symptoms...and this would be about the time they could appear..could just be that you haven't healed enough to start pureed but could be something else...ask your surgeon on this...take care!

after surergy and when you are back in the hotel, what did you do...sleep, stay in room for two days? any information would be appreciated.
The first day back to the hotel, we hung out chatting in the restaurant having broth while our patient coordinator and the +1 had margaritas..(was cinco de mayo)...then we walked to the LEY grocery store and shopped for a while...then went back up to the room...I ended up walking over to another sleever's room and hung out for a while..then hung out in my room skyping my husband and watching Harry Potter in Spanish..lol till I got sleepy..

@smsgrl....love it, the honesty is amazing, thank u....i have did research like à sponge, and still it will not be until i go thought it for me that i will réally know.. i believed it will be hard and very emotional and im also concernéd about
the emotional part but i have support systèm outside of my family to help me just incase...and taking my meds correctly up to surgery..and following instruction after for sûre...thanks again for posting...
You are welcome! I know we are supposed to eat to live and not live to eat..and this surgery is the tool to force this behavior change...but knowing it and living it are 2 different ballgames..most posts I read are bliss and happiness..and i am sure when I am finally at a stable healthy weight that I will understand but for now..this is hell..forcing myself to drink nasty liquid vitamins, nasty Protein Shakes, no sugar this...no fat that..take anything that might taste good and blend it till its tasteless...sit and watch your family eat your favorite food on mother's day while you eat a container of baby food applesause...this is not cool! Maybe I will feel better when I poop..because oh yeah..thats another happy side effect..no poop in 2 weeks...advice is to drink more nasty stuff...not being a downer..but people need to be prepared for all the down sides to the surgery as well.

the 6 month thing is dependent on your insurance..some make you do it for one month, some two, some three, some 4 or 5 or 6...just depends..and they don't want you to really lose weight..they just want to verify that you tried to do it on your own before dishing out the money for the surgery..my insurance Aenta required 4 months...plus 5 years of documented weight history...and a few more things..I said F**** it and paid for it out of pocket in Mexico..didn't feel like dealing with all the hoops the insurance company was going to make me jump through

I am 2 weeks post op and physically I am fine..but mentally...this sucks! I was not prepared for dealing with social meal situations..I am absolutely miserable..I have lost 23lbs but can't tell it in my clothes yet..I am sick of Protein Shakes and my energy level is not where it used to be..I know its only 2 weeks out but this is the reality of it and I rarely see anyone who actually writes this..so I am doing it..I don't regret the surgery but this isn't happy rainbows and teddy bears for sure!

This is who my surgery was with..and the doctors are great. I have emailed them a few times since surgery with questions and they have been very quick to respond! You will be very happy with them.

Surgery on may 6th, so 8 days post op. Down 7.7 lbs so far. The worst pain I had was from the drain, that was removed on the 9th. I was given 8 pain pills post op and I just took the last one last night, they helped at night since I toss and turn a lot. I'm on 2 weeks full liquids, getting about 50g Protein a day. I was making very thin potato Soup the other day and it went down fine, but then I forgot about my limitations and had a slice of the soft potato. I thought I was going to die, it hurt so much to get it down. So for now I'm happy sticking with liquids. My incisions seem to be healing fine, they just itch a little bit from the scabbing process. The only other issue I had was starting my period early even though I'm on birth control, the first day was horrible cramps, but it feels like normal now.
I had the same thing where my period got a jump start...doctors said the hormonal changes from the stress caused it...

Well, I will give you my update..I had surgery on May 3 so I am 9 days post op. My incisions have almost completely healed up..but my abdomen is still pretty sore when I lean to my right side especially. I still have some gas issues when i drink too big of a gulp mainly. I have less energy than before. I can take a shower and get ready to go but feel more like laying down than going out afterwards. I am struggling to get all the required Protein and Fluid in..I am getting about 50-60 oz of fluid in..including 16oz of Protein Shakes. I have had 2 crying episodes over not being able to eat but today is Mother's day and I had to watch my family chow down on my favorite pizza while i was sipping on a Protein Shake that I am absolutely sick of. I have pureed some progresso chicken pot pie Soup and its good but I can only take about 2 tablespoons of that before I am miserably full. Now...I have lost nearly 10lbs since surgery and 22lbs since starting the pre-op diet..this is what I am using to combat the mental issues I am dealing with about the food. I have lost half an inch in my waist but no major changes..My husband swears my face has thinned out a bit so I guess that is good. I am losing at about a pound a day. I am sure this will taper after I get off this liquid diet. Realistically, if you are afraid of pain..don't be..you will have some but its controlled by meds...but you have to be mentally prepared to handle the social eating situations..thats the hardest thing for me now. So good luck..

Also, call other post office locations...their appointment dates vary.. dramatically...some may get you in within a day or two..might mean driving a little farther but..worth it...

You can expedite your passport and get it in just a few days...

I am on day 7 post op and am overall doing fantastic...incisions are still sore..but no gas pain..bowels resumed today finally...i just am never hungry or thirsty..i am forcing myself to drink but i am not getting nearly enough..and i am only getting about half of my 70gm of protein...at this point but trying hard to force it all in...Losing about a half pound a day on average..tried cream of wheat today..started out ok but made me feel really nauseous so backing off...sticking to my gatorade and Protein shakes..i can't believe how uninterested I am in food anymore..nothing appeals to me..guess that is good..

smsgirl,
Very informative! Thanks. I haven't seen anyone else talk about breathing exercises or Fluid building up in your chest! Good to know. Is that a thing with this kind of surgery or all surgery? I have never had surgery before.
You and I are about the same size, I'm 5'8" and weighed 268.5 today which is up for me. Next week I start my pre-op diet.
Good Luck!
I think this is for most surgerys that require full anesthesia..Plus you are lying in a bed alot for a few days..even though you need to be up walking..that is only a few rounds of the hospital floor each hour but honestly, with the pain meds you stay pretty sleepy..Good Luck..that preop diet was the toughest! and do not eat anything within 24 hours of the surgery except Clear liquids..so you don't get sick!

I was sleeved May 3 and am doing good. I had my surgery in Mexico so I just got home today. I am starting my Protein Shakes in the morning. The first 24 hours were rough with nausua and pain. I don't have much pain now but just a bit weak and sore. I am not hungry and need to find a way to remind myself to drink. Still hurts sometimes when i take too big of a mouthful of drink. I lost 12lbs during preop and have lost 4 more pounds since surgery for a total loss of 16lbs in 3.5weeks...How are you guys doing?
