OH, SORRY, DINI! I went away for a few minutes... doing Scrabble turns on another site! Now you gave up on us! Time difference is the pits, too! I'm on the west coast. I know I shouldn't stress so much about the weight loss... on the scale multiple times every morning... on & off, on & off, hoping it'll read something different!! I'm trying really hard to eat right! And I LOVE my husband dearly and he is sooo good to me, but he puts a lot of pressure on me, too. He expects the scale to go down every day and when it doesn't then he starts lecturing me about what I ate that I shouldn't have, etc.! But, I'm doing okay and trying to stay positive. Things I'm grateful for.... my faith in God, my wonderful family... husband, kids, grandkids (10), mom & sisters.. all supporting this effort I am making to get my weight down, and my health, which is going to be getting even better.

Hi, All, It is kind of quiet here today, Dini! DMTJET: Thanks for your comments about my family. And good luck to you! Phyllser, your grandchildren are beautiful ... your man's not bad either, lol!!!! But seriously, the children are gorgeous!!!! I have such a soft spot for little people! They are terrific and full of excitement and innocence! The little guy who made the "puffy" comment is Charly, hiding behind the bench. They are a lot of fun, but tire us out quickly! We're in the Pacific NW, so all we've heard about today.... newspaper, non-stop TV coverage, is the rollout of Boeing's new 787! We've about heard enough! My husband is a Boeing retiree (USAF, too), so we could've gone to the festivities, but didn't want to fight the crowds and traffic. It is a beautiful sunny day here with promises of HOT weather later in the week. I'm kind of bummed because my weight loss has stalled for a week now. The nutrition gal told me to up my calories to 1000 and eat Protein at each meal. Its harder for me to fight temptations when the parameters get broader! Why is that? Tomorrow I see the surgeon for my pre-op appointment and I'm afraid he's going to be upset with me if I haven't lost enough weight yet. I was down 22 lb, but now I've gained a few back. :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry

RETAIL THERAPY!!! I LOVE THAT!! I do have my Gas-X, just forgot to mention it. But from the things you all are saying, I better get some more. Both my PCP & THE DIETICIAN HARPED ON ME ABOUT Calcium. I don't know if I can swallow the big tabs we have, but I like the Smooth Dissolve Tums---- 750 mg Calcium in each. We spent the afternoon babysitting our three youngest grandkids -- 1 1/2, 4 & 5 1/2. The middle one, grandson Charly, always says "fat" things to me... "Grandma, why are you so fat?" "Grandma, why are your legs so big?" Today's comment made me chuckle... "Grandma, I'm not puffy like you are!" PUFFY!! its a lot better than FAT and BIG!!! :think

An idea for a general question: "what is your dream piece of clothing to wear when you have lost the weight?" Jeans! I know, I'm 63 years old.... get over it... I want to wear a pair of jeans!! My stretch knit, elastic waist pants are comfy, but I'd like to be able to wear a pair of jeans if I feel like it!! Good Question!! IndoGirl.... I'm so sorry but I'm chuckling over your 14 tubes of blood, colonoscopy, etc!! I got away with two tubes & no tests to speak of other than an ekg in my pcp's office! Not even a psych consult! How did I luck out??? :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

How is weight loss for people over 50?
SUNNY, You can mark your favorite threads by going to "Thread Tools" at the top of the page and choose "Subscribe to this thread". Then when you come back to the site you choose "Quick Links" and then "Subscribed Threads" and the page that pops up lists all your threads. So you think you might go visit Marcy in AK and check out some of those "law wnforcement" dudes she mentioned??

Hi, Everyone, Two weeks from today is my surgery and I'm feeling a little jittery..... nervous, excited, etc.! My PCP is so sweet. She just called me on the phone to talk about a Rx I need and told me "our prayers will be with you" and told me to come in after the surgery. I've never had that kind of personal attention from a doc!! I had my pre-op dietician consult this week. She went over the post-op diet with me and told me I needed to up my pre-op diet from the 500 I'd been averaging for the past month to 1000 cal and protein with every meal. So my weight loss is stalled since I did that. This week I also had all my pre-op blood work done ..... only TWO tubes! Monday I have my pre-op appts with both anesthesia and my surgeon. I've got two tank tops with built in shelf bra, liquid Tylenol and adult liquid vitamins. I've ordered an ID bracelet from MY BANDS. I have my shopping list from the dietician. AM I FORGETTING ANYTHING??? :help::whoo::omg: :clap2: :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: :eyebrows::eyebrows::eyebrows::eyebrows: :faint::confused::confused:

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Just thought I'd jump in on the age discussion. I'm 63... 64 in Nov. I wish I'd done this a log time ago, but jusy happy that it's available to me now and that I was able to persuade my husband that it's the right thing to do. My surgery is two weeks from today. I've already had my blood work done and my consult with the dietician. She gave me all the post=op diet instructions so I need to make a shopping list. I was pleasantly surprised that the first two weeks are full liquid as opposed to clear liquid, so I can have things like runny cream of wheat , creamed soups, etc. 1/2 cup at a time 6 times a day. then on to "mushies". Monday I see anesthesia and then my pre-op appt with the surgeon. SO...... I AM READY TO GO!!!

Today was an exciting day for me because I had my pre-op blood work drawn.... only two tubes... YAY! And I had my pre-op counselling with a dietician. Four weeks since I started my pre-op diet and I'm down 22 lb. A little over two more weeks until my surgery! The dietician said I need to up my calories and my protein intake. I've been averaging about 450 calories a day and she didn't like that. She said 1200, but we agreed tp 1000 and protein at each meal. So when I got home I went across the street and treated my self to a 6" turkey sub from Subway!! I won't do that again, probably, but had to have my "last sandwich"!! And I'd had to fast this morning for the bloodwork, so I was starving!! Tomorrow will be a challenge but I'm up to it! Our son is flying in from San Jose for some Navy medical appointments, so we're having a family picnic, him and our two daughters and their families. I'm planning to have a hamburger with no bun and a spoonful of beans and potato salad. My husband will raise his eyebrows, but he'll have to get over that. I plan to exercise restraint, but will indulge a little. God Bless to all and hope everyone has a fun 4th. The weather up here in the Pacific NW is supposed to be beautiful, as it was today!!

A week or so ago someone, maybe Breadlady (?) mentioned getting tank tops with built in shelf bra to wear in the early post-op days. That sounded like a good suggestion. I found mine at Wal-Mart under $10!

Thanks, Danny, and welcome! This is a great group... very supportive and much encouragement here. Very enlightening, too, to read everyone's diffrerent experiences and how different the doctors' protcols can be as far as pre=op, post-op diets, etc. I have learned a lot in the few weeks since I found this site!

From There to Here
I've been thinking about Weight Loss Surgery for a long time, but could not seriously pursue it until my husband concurred, which was last fall. We attended an informational seminar in Palm Springs CA over the winter and began looking for a surgeon then. We were in CA for the winter, but moving to WA state at the end of April. My medical insurance is Medicare/Tricare for Life, so I had to use a "Center of Excellence". I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Jeffrey Hunter at Virginia Mason Clinic in Federal Way WA. We met with him on May 3, 2007 and he thoroughly discussed the pros and cons of both bypass and lapband surgery. He told me that he would want me to lose 10% of my body weight prior to surgery. I weighed in at 325 that day. I started a 1000-1200 calorie diet the next day. I lost about 2 lb. a week for the first three weeks. Then the weight loss stalled and so did my enthusiasm. In a short time, I had regained the 7 lb. I was supposed to have a second appointment with Dr. Hunter in early June, but his nurse, Stephen called me early that week and told me that I didn't need to come in until I'd lost the weight. So the next day I started on a 350-500 calorie diet. Its been three weeks and I've now lost 20 lb. Last week, after several phone calls to report my weight loss thus far, Stephen called me back with a surgery date of July 20. I will have to go in about 10 days prior to that for pre-op appointments with Dr. Hunter, the dietician and the anesthesia department. :ranger:
