A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
Thanks so much for clarifying your remarks. I understand what you are saying and must agree that I have experienced some of the same reactions to my appearance that you have. In fact, I actually chased down a guy with my scooter, in a Palm Springs Wal-Mart last winter because he made some very loud, very insulting comments to me as he walked past me with his young son. Picture that!! I don't remember what I said to him when I caught up with him, but I chewed him out pretty good for making distasteful and judgemental comments, especially in the presence of his little boy. So, yes, I relate. Sorry I came on so strong. I misinterpreted what you were saying, and I overreacted, as well. I was feeling really lousy that night and should have let it pass. Or maybe not, because I think what you've shared about your feelings are worth saying and things a lot of us feel!

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Janet, Praying you get a good report back from thhat biopsy! We're going to have to come up with a good come back for that lady who wants to know how much you've lost each day!! I have not been careful at all about who I've told about my surgery and that is the one problem with that.. You feel like everyone is watching to see if you're being successful and then you have those who want to keep asking that question..... how much have you lost now???? My Mom, for one! She's 85. I cut her some slack!

Hi, Where did you find the rasberry syrup? My sample bottle isn't going to last much longer and so far I can't find the raspberry anywhere.

Excuse me??? I'm not embarrassed about having to use a scooter, thank you very much!! Over 30 years of floor nursing took its toll on my knees. I'm well aware my excess weight was a contributing factor, but so is arthritis. My scooter gives me freedom and independence I didn't have without it. I'm hoping my weight loss will enable me to increase my walking, but I don't expect it will allow me to completely give up my scooter. I'd have to regenerate some cartilege for that to happen. And, yeah, your comment kinda ticked me off. I found it condescending and insulting.

Thanks to both of you for sharing your encouraging testimonies. I am one week postop. Highst weight 328, started preop diet at 326.6, 5 ft tall. Similar knee problems. Bought a handicap scooter about 5 years ago. Very little exercise except in winter when we go to CA and stay at an RV park with pools and I do water aerobics every morning. I'm going to make this work.

CELESTE, Call your provider and see if you can get a different type of mask. I had one probably like you have for a year. I asked for something differen and they brought me a nasal pillow mask. Much more comfortable to wear! Hope you can see the photo.

I'm just using the tylenol now. A dose at bedtime last night got me to about 4 a.m. when the coughing woke me up. I may have a cold. But I feel much better than yesterday. Soreness on the left side is less today. Steri Strips are off three of the six incisions. All are healing nicely.

I kept a dose of pain med on my night stand to take during the night. That got me a good night's sleep every night.

You thought this all through and made what you felt were the right decisions. Its just the emotions and the nervousness taking over. You'll be okay. We all have those "what if I don't wake up" thoughts. You'll be in good hands... they'll take good care of you!

Glad you're doing well, Christina!! I think we all cheated a little on our preop. I had my wekend in Whistler where I enjoyed a few treats and then my "Last Supper" of my favorite Italian food the day before surgery!! Are you on full liquids now? I have two weeks of that before "mushies". I'm getting about 40 gm of protein a day, 450 calories or less. A few fleeting twinges of hunger pains, but for the most part, satisfied. Coughing a lot for the last day or so.. maybe a hld over from anesthesia.

Prayers and good wishes to all on board for tomorrow!! I'll be especially thinking about that commute out of Toronto!! I've been in Toronto traffic!! And our trip home from Seattle Friday just hours after my surgery........ All I can say is have them hit you with that pain med just before you hit the road!! :car::car::car::car::car::grouphug:

Riah: I start my diet tomorrow - NOT FUN. Not anywhere what you are having to go through, but a lot of counting grams and making sure I am getting the right amounts of all the nutrients. Basically, a pain in the butt. But it will all be worth it and will be good practice for when I have to kick things up a notch before surgery. I made the sobering realization that I have to record every single thing that I eat (and all the lovely exercise that I have to do) for the next three months!!![img=http://www.lapbandtalk.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif] Some of us like to use FitDay.com to track our intake, weight, exercise, etc. Its easy to use. I purchased the software so I don't have to be online to use it.

Good Morning! Janet, you didn't use your vicodin after you got home?? Wow! Mine is almost gone. Didn't take any all day yesterday, but port was bothering me after I went to bed last night and DH had to go get me a tsp of it. I have been tapering off on it and maybe I could've gotten by with just Tylenol last night. Overall I think I'm doing pretty good. Seem to be coughng a lot since last night. Maybe still have some gunk from anesthesia to get rid of.

Denise is HOME!! Good for you! Thanks, Chim! I don't really feel old!! You're going to do great tomorrow. Do you have to stay overnight? Yeah, I'm still here, Dini. Glad you found your shoes!! We're going to head over to our daughter's house in a little while. Good change of scene and DH gets to have normal dinner!! I'll take some cream soup.

I really haven't had any gas pain at all. Some pain in the shoulders, but pretty much gone today. A little port pain, well controlled with the luquid vicodin. Haven't had any since early this morning. Don't need it much now. I'm really pleased with how I'm feeling and how things are going, especially for an OLD broad like me!!

Exciting that you are getting your fill tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you. I've been out and about the neighborhood on my handicap scooter today. Had a dental appt. this morning. Got through that well, so I went on to the grocery store and then across the street to get my hair cut. No pain med since 4:30 a.m.
