My 2 Cents.... water aerobics is great. I've been doing it again for the lasts 4-5 days. Last two days... I wore my crocs in the pool... helped to cushion the impact on my knees. I do it because I know I HAVE to do it! But, I also have to admit, I"ve had a lot more pain in my left knee since I started the water aerobics again. No pain, no gain, I guess. I've also walked a lot more in the past two weeks than I normally do at home, which also contributes to the increased pain. OH, I am anxious to comment on the caffeine issue!! I was told at pre-op nutrition counselling, with the dietician, no caffeine!! So, with great pain, I gave up my coffee! (I'd already given up my Diet Coke). i switched to decaf. Then at my post-op appt with my surgeon's P.A., I asked her if I could go back on caffeine at any point in time. She said, "WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU COULDN"T HAVE CAFFEINE????" She said that was NOT my dr's policy!! GRRRR!! So I went back to regular coffee. I drink 1-1/2 cups every morning, often have a SF,FF latte in the afternoon... but I won't be doing that every day all winter!! Will be lucky to get an occassional latte while in CA for the winter! But, in conclusion.... the caffeine issue is strictly a matter of what your surgeon says! But, I myself do not think it should even be an issue. If your body needs it, have it!! IMHO!!!! The argument is that it dehydrates you... whatever!! So increase your intake of other liquids!! I drink Crystal Lite all day, after I've had my morning coffee! This is sick, but for quite some time now, I've consistently weighed 100# more than my DH!! I am so happy to be closing in on him!! He's lost some, too, but I am closing the gap!! I was well over 300# when I started my pre-op diet. I will weigh less than him one day in the not too distant future!! Congrats!!

Things will get better for you. I was banded 14 mos ago. Mobility is better. Iuse an electric handicap scooter. With the weight I've lost so far, I have definitely gained some mobility. I still need knee replacements on both knees, hopefully next year, but walking with a cane more than I used to. God Bless! -
Yes, have used the black & white polka dot thingy a lot this summer, especially in the last two weeks! In the pool twice a day since here at our friends, so alternating it with another. However, I am bouncing out of both of them as they're both too big, so have to get a new suit when we get settled this week! Baggy in the butt & boobs! A good problem. Your shopping trip sounds like great fun! Congrats on the 14s! I noticed one of my new tops... that I wore to church this morning, 18/20, is a little too big. Can't imagine wearing smaller than that!? Hitting the road again tomorrow morning, so DH is packing things up... bicycle back in the RV, etc!

Hi, I've been here off & on. Getting ready to hit the road again in the morning. Had one last session in the pool this afternoon. We brought our water aerobics CD with us so we've been using it every day. We're all warmed up and ready to get started when we get settled later this week. Internet tomorrow will be questionable! Anyone on Facebook??? I've become obsessed with "parking wars", "speed racing" and now "Kidnap"!! I really need to get a life!

As the saying goes, if you build it, they WILL come! They'll find you! That's insane! I didn't have to do most of that stuff!! (Medicare/Tricare For Life) -

Don't let him try to talk him in to something you don't want! Far less complications with LapBand and either way it takes a strong commitment to completely change your way of eating, as well as other lifestyle changes.... exercise, in particular, Just spend some time looking at the Before & After thread to see how wrong he is about weight loss success with this procedure! -
That's funny!! Our granddaughter just started at U of WA. Son watches her school account spending online so he can see where she's at. He knew she was going to buy a football jersey for the first football game so he as expecting to see a $60 charge because he'd seen them at the bookstore when he was there. So he was puzzled when it showed up as $30... then he figured it out... she bought a childs' jersey, too, so it wouldn't be baggy!!

Classy, Sassy, Lady!! You look GREAT!! That DOES sound like a FUN job! Yeah, Janet & Steph introduced me to QVC at Mall of America! Still don't watch it on TV, but I enjoyed shopping in their store and bought a couple of things including a purse that I really like! At 5', I don't have that problem~!! In fact, I buy cropped pants and they end up being just the right length usually!!

I just sort of LIVE here on LBT!! Guess I should get a life! Although lately I'm kind of obsessing over FACEBOOK!! Playing silly games like Parking Wars, Speed Racing and Kidnap your friends!! LOL

Welcome!! There's also a thread called "New 60+" that you might want to check out. Hey, we're neighbors for a few days! We're in our RV staying with friends in Three Rivers on our way to Desert Hot Springs for the winter!! Boy, is it hot here!! Didn't expect it to be this hot! But, that's why we left WA!! To get away from the rain and chilly temps! I was banded 14 months ago. Down almost 90 lb.! Down one cholesterol pill and both BP Rx half the strength they were then! -

Welcome! There's another site for 60's folks that seems to be a little more active. It's called the new 60+ thread. Don't listen to "naysayer" friends. If you are determined to make this work, it will!! You can get lots of support and encouragment here!! Stick with us here on LBT! -
I had Synvisc injections probably 7-8 yrs ago. They helped for a while but not as much as steroid injections I'd had a couple of years before that. Good plan to get the weight down before replacement. I had partial on the right and hardware is collapsing down because of the weight loss. So have to get down to BMI 40 before it gets converted to a total and then total on the other knee. Surgeon says that way he can be pretty sure that won't happen again. He only wants to do them ONCE! I'm all for that! I second that! We stopped at a truck stop in our travels yesterday.. There was a Subway inside so DH wanted to get lunch. I told him only if they had those little round sandwiches, or else bring me a cup of chili. Well he comes out with a chicken wrap.... 12" tortilla! I'm sure! i have to be nice! I pulled off the end of the wrap and ate the insides with a fork! I can't do soft flour tortilla any better than thick bread! I've had one of their subs a couple of times, but eating VERY slowly and throwing away much of the bread.

Great report, Steph!! Congrats!!

Yeah, don't freak out about the meds. It'll all work out. Talk that over with your primary care doc. Only pills I've had trouble swallowing are calcium tabs... to big and tend to have rough edges. Did find Calcitrate Petites that I can swallow okay. That's great news, Joann!! Dec. 4th will be here before you know it! -
When I saw that ortho guy for the 2nd time he said the hardware in the original partial replacement was collapsing down because of my weight loss. So he needs to convert that one to a total and do a total on the other one. But he wants to wait until my BMI is about 40 rather than risk that happeneing again. So... I'm hoping maybe when we go home in the spring. Yes, we do LOVE the RV lifestyle, but it's not for everyone. Cost of repairs? That can be expensive, but we haven't had many problems with our Winnebago. Oil changes are pricey. But only a couple of times a year. Tires.... very pricey, but we haven't had to buy any yet. I know it's coming soon because the coach is almost 5 yrs old. Even if we did have a mobile down in the desert, I would still want my rV because I enjoy the trip down! We stop here and there for several days at a time and take 2-3 weeks to get where we are going. Our first year as "snowbirds", we moved every two weeks all through Arizona and CA and that was after several weks in WA, etc. We still lived in OK then. Ah.... we are starting to move!! I guess I have to sign off! Will lose the WiFi when we pull out! Don't stay away!! We miss you!!

Yeah, I've been thinking about trying on those size 22 jeans! Actually have bought a couple of things lately that were NOT in the PLUS SIZE dept! We have a TOPS group at our RV park down there, so that's where I'll be weighing in. AND, we brought our Wii with us. Haven't set it up in the RV yet... it would be silly to do that now when we're on the move! We did take it in to my sister's when we were there, but they were all so enthralled with it, I barely got to use it at all! I did use DIL's when we were there. Hoped to go in the pool here today in this park, but DH said the water was too cold. Next stop... our friends have a pool that they keep quite warm, so we'll probably be swimming every day the rest of this week. I brought 4 bathing suits with me only to find out that 2 are too big to wear, one I can get away with but it's really too big, too. The 4th I haven't tried on yet, but it might fit. It's an 18 and I think I need a 20. Will try it on tomorrow.

Hope she drops by! You know us... the more, the merrier. We're always anxious to share our ups and downs! And the secrets of our success!! Yes, nice to walk the stores, even with a little pain! And nice to have to move the car seat forward! I can reach the pedals so much better now, and my stomach is not in the way!
-
Yeah, those who are in control make sure their own interests are protected while the rest of us pay the consequences!! There's no justice!! RIP Paul Newman!!

No time to panic!! It'll be okay. I think a lot of this is politics!! You all have probably got it that I'm a pretty staunch Republican...but, Rep/Dem, it matters not... this whole thing is politics. Jockeying for position... tank the economy and then try to take credit for rescuing us all from economic disaster! We have a "money man" in OKC who is tried and true and we trust him with all that we have. He emailed DH today and told him not to drive the RV into the Pacific or hang himself from a cactus. He says this is NOT about VALUE, and just hang in there. If it all tanks, we'll all be in the same boat!!
-
No posts ALL day!! Hope everyone is having a GREAT day in spite of the economic CRASH!! In lieu of that, DH & I just shared a bottle of Cabernet and we're both feeling MUCH better about it now!! :cool2: We are having a WONDERFUL day off from traveling and visiting with family/friends! Just US today!! We traveled a whopping 45 miles today from our son's place in Mountain View to Gilroy CA! Garlic Capitol of the World!! Here's an intersting note... we both drove... DH in the RV, me in the Honda CR-V. Every time I drive, which is not THAT often, I think, even the car seems TOO BIG for me. I don't fit the way I used to and its disconcerting!! (A big word for someone who has really had too much wine!) I've been struggling with that for the past couple of months. Today I fixed it!! I MOVED THE SEAT UP!! So I did some shoppping in Gilroy!! I went to Camping World ALL BY MYSELF, and I WALKED!! I managed to make it up & down all the aisles. Knees hurt, but I toughed it out. AND, I took a LONG ride on my scooter to do some shopping ALONE!! I found some tops at the Salvation Army store, one at Wal-Mart and some sweat pants at Target... everything under $10! Most under $5! I am a GOOD shopper! Later, went to a winery where we bought some Garlic Red Wine!! It's good for both drinking or cooking! And we went to Garlic World after that and bought a lot of other garlicky stuff. Here's an intersting observation: we are staying in a fairly pricey ($40/night) RV park and there are people staying here who are living in their RVs at that price. DH says 50% are CA residents who appear to be staying here monthly, so they probably get a bit of a price break, but not that much. Okay, so... the market sucks, but this is the time to JUMP IN!! Buy low, sell high!! Love Ya!

NORMAL!!! HOLY CATS!! AND DOGS!!! THAT'S SO EXCITING!! CONGRATS!! Me.... I'm wearing my 50,000 Point YMCA shirt that I haven't worn in about 8 years (and baggy capris)! I earned it working out at the Y .... on the weight machines... almost 10 years ago. I think I lost about 40-50 lb that time and it all came back. So it's good to wear my 50,000 Point shirt again. We're moving south today, but less than 50 miles!! We're slow movers! We're going down to the garlic country!! Yum! I'll be going to the big GARLIC SHOP today, and I hope to Camping World, too. Later, Gang!

I'm glad you finally were able to eat something! That's great! We're all going to be so excited when you get your dog.. like we're waiting for a new baby!! My DIL used that word again! We were at our son's hangar looking at his plane and watching him do some riveting before we went to dinner. He was almost done when he says, "Where's Mom??" DIL started laughing & said "she's sitting right there on the chair!" Then she told me, "see, you're getting so skinny he can't find you!" That was cute!
