Don't know when I'll get the test results. I suppose they will send the report to the pulmonologist and they will call me or fax order to the people who are going to be providing my supplies now. I've been getting them by mail but Dr. wants me to have someone local because I'll have to take my machine in to them to be recalibrated. It was set around 14 and I think she said she had me at 8 last night.

Hi! Had a great time at the Seattle Aquarium with DD & the three little grandchildren in spite of Mr. Grump!:biggrin::drool: He's fine when we're out with other people. But in the car on the way home, about all he said was, "Did I just miss the car pool lane?" and he's not said another word all afternoon! Yeah, sometimes being single sounds mighty inviting! LOL! And, BTW, I DID say I was sorry that there was a misunderstanding about what time he was to pick me up! Apology not accepted.. he said I didn't mean it! I think he wants his three days of pouting!:eek::biggrin::eek: How many more days til Canada???:w00t: Grumpy old men are very aggravating! Lunch was bad.... calorie wise, that is! We went to a walk up fish bar where all they have is fried food or high cal clam chowder. I went for the oysters and chips. Gave one oyster to DH and only ate a few of the chips. The grandkids fed the rest, vinegar and all, to the seagulls! I hope they don't have belly aches from the vinegar!! And I had some cole slaw. Last stop was one of my favorite souvenir shops, "Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe". Near disaster there... Grandpa abruptly decided he had to go to the car because our paid parking time was almost up. So, when I'm too far away to do anything about it, I hear Thomas (3 1/2 yr old) say, "I'm going with Grandpa!" and he runs after Grandpa, who didn't hear him and has no clue! I'm hollering at Thomas not to go but he's not listening and I can't get through the crowd on my scooter and I sure as heck can't run after him without it! So Jodie hears this and runs out after him. She caught up with him out in the middle of the street.... BIG, four lane street with lots of traffic! He was about three steps behind Grandpa, who still had no clue he was following him! That was our excitement for the day!

Hi, Yeah, no activity here in quite a while except for you and me! Congrats on the 5K and the hiking! That's great! I'm in need of double knee replacement, so I won't be doing anything like that for a while! I'm getting the worse one done the end of Aug. The other, maybe next summer. In the meantime, exercise is a challenge. I do some stuff on my Wii/Wii Fit. I can walk in place for about 6 minutes, but that's my limit. In the winter, when we go south, I do water aerobics. Good to hear from you!

Congrats on the weight loss! You're doing GREAT!! Back home. Goop still in my hair but going to get in the shower soon. It went well. I slept like a log. Only woke up once to use the BR. I was told to take off my watch, so I put it in the pocket of my PJ pants! So when I was putting it on this morning, the tech says, "where did you have THAT??" I told her it was in my pocket. So she said "Well, the reason we have you take it off is we don't want you to know what time it is!" So I guess I wasn't supposed to sneak it out of my pocket while I was in the bathroom to see that it was 2:12 a.m.! Now DH is mad at ME because he was 1/2 hr late picking me up. How does that work?? Well, if I get mad at him about ANYTHING, he's a strong believer in the concept that "the best defense is a STRONG offense." So when I continued to be a little perturbed because he offered lame excuses and no apology (like stopped to get something to eat), he got very angry and started slamming and banging things around. He acts like a 2 yr old sometimes. So now he's not speaking to me and I am a bitch because I had to get up too early! What a baby! It wasn't the waiting that I minded... I was having coffee and watching the news.. but it is not like him to be late so I was getting pretty worried and thinking he'd been in an accident or was stuck in morning traffic. So it was pretty annoying when he came strolling in acting so casual and nonchalant! Ain't men fun!??! LOL! I'm ignoring him. Hee Hee! So they told me nothing, of course, but I know I need the CPAP pressure turned down. I just hope she got it right because she didn't make any adjustments that I know of during the night and I was still having those dry mouth episodes. I told her about it when I got up but she said it was because I was mouth breathing. Whatever!

Bored stiff at the sleep lab. Wired up but not yet connected. Watching reruns and missing my laptop. Shouldve brought PDA so I could play solitaire. Don't have it on my Blackberry. Do have a book with me. I guess they expect me to go to sleep soon and its way too early for me! Good thing I have a sleeping pill with me. No snacks. I want me pudding! Forgot my crystal lite so I'll have to drink water. Puget sound is right out my window but no sun today or I'd be watching a beautiful sunset about now! Next door is our favorite place to go for "Happy Hour" out on the patio on warm sunny afternoons. Enjoyed reading all your latest posts but now I'm tired of typing with my thumbnails!

Hi, Nina! Good to hear from you again. Hope you get alll your questions answered at your seminar. Do you have co-morbidity factors? Like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, etc? They take all that in to account, as well as your BMI.

Here's a "clinical" definition I got off a medical site: "What is GERD (acid reflux)? Gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly referred to as GERD or acid reflux, is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates (backs up or refluxes) into the esophagus. The liquid can inflame and damage the lining (cause, cause esophagitis) of the esophagus although visible signs of inflammation occur in a minority of patients. The regurgitated liquid usually contains acid and pepsin that are produced by the stomach. (Pepsin is an enzyme that begins the digestion of Proteins in the stomach.)" What is causing it?? Most likely eating too much and/or eating too close to bedtime. It can be dangerous because it can damage your esophagus. When you have an episode like that, it very often will cause you to be "tight" for a day or two afterward because your esophagus is likely to be swollen. It is advisable to stick to liquids for a day and gradually go back to normal food.

Are you snacking too close to bedtime? Just curious because I sometimes have similar symptoms when I'm "stuck" or ate too much or too late at night. Then, sometimes, comes an episode of reflux. Certainly don't want you to take chest pain lightly, especially in the light of your previous experience! But, just a thought.

Yes, far too many food temptations this weekend! And now dealing with the leftovers! Potato salad is not my friend. Have to get rid of it. But, YES, I ate much less than I normally would have. Two 40 calorie Hebrew Nat'ls... I would've had probably one hot dog, one hamburger... with buns, in the past, along with lots of potato salad and beans! Two of the weekend BBQs involved grilled chicken breasts... boneless, skinless. You're making us worry with that doctor appointment comment. Looking forward to Aquarium with the grandkids later this week, and I volunteered us for babysitting with the on Saturday so DD & SIL can go to a movie. Told her I only have about 3 Saturdays left between now and the time we leave for CA this fall.... and actually, one of them disappeared after we talked on the phone! That leaves this Saturday or Aug. 8th!! Our 45th anniversary is the 15th & all other Saturdays we're either gone, have plans or I'll be "rehabbing"! We have friends from our RV park in CA that will be here the weekend before my knee surgery. Those arrangements just made this afternoon. They're coming to Seattle to go on a 2 wk. Alaska cruise and will spend about 2 more weeks in the area after that.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Dottie, and All, I've been "stay at home" due to disability and now retirement, since 2000. Inactivity is our enemy! I spend way too much time on my computer, but try to find things to do outside every day. I'm "mobility impaired" due to two arthritic knees that need total replacement. I'm getting one done the end of the summer. The other has a partial in it and can wait until next summer, at least. Exercise is KEY to our weight loss, so I do what I can... mostly Wii exercise in the summer, water aerobics in the winter when we are in our RV in CA. I think it's important to get as involved in activities outside the home as we can once retired. Volunteer work is usually a good outlet..if we can find something we enjoy. We have a "Primetimers" group at our church that we enjoy attending. Most of the people who come are older than us.. it is supposed to be a community outreach for sr. citizens... but I've enjoyed the elderly since I was a teenager! I enjoy photography, and one project I'm working on right now is a slide show of the Alaska cruise we took in May... and I'm going to present that at Primetimers this week. Then my TOPS group (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) wants me to write up an article about my weight loss journey (with photos) for our monthly newsletter, and to present to the group later this month. We just need to exercise some creativity in figuring out things to do that use our talents, and things that we enjoy, to keep ourselves occupied so we don't become "Couch Potates"! I'm talking to ME, here, too!!

Karla, You are a "Peach"! Always enjoy your posts and you can ramble all you want! I often do that, too! I, too, am trying so hard to get under 200 lb... I was hoping by my 2 yr anniv, but that's just two weeks away and I'm not going to make it. TOPS weigh in today I "turtled"... stayed the same. I was just happy not to have a gain after the holiday weekend! Candice, Welcome home! Enjoyed your posts about all your activities while you were gone... and the photos! You did great to lose 2 lb on vacation and I used that as a testimony for walking at TOPS this morning. DD & SIL had the same experience on their 2 1/2 wk vacation to Europe. They are on WW so they were nervous about gaining. But they walked so much that they came home without big gains. I think they both lost. Steph, Your adventures are always so intriguing! Sounds like you had a busy, eventful weekend. Janet hasn't checked in yet... Wasn't she supposed to be home yesterday? Maybe it was today. We had BBQ Friday at DD's.... boneless, skinless chicken breasts, but I had a little potato salad and baked beans. Saturday we had a neighbborhood BBQ here at the condo. We had our 40 calorie Hebrew Nat'ls. (thanks, Karri), but... again, I had a little potato salad and some beans... and some cole slaw... and too much wine that day. But I didn't eat lunch that day because we were doing the BBQ about 2-3ish. After another week of gorgeous weather, our temps plunged 20 degrees today and it's cloudy, and, as described by our 6 yr old grandson, "misty". Good word, Charly! It's not really RAIN. Not even "drizzle".... but not DRY either. It wasn't too wet to do a little cruise around the neighborhood. Since DH weighed in this moring and was a pound under goal, he wanted a few of his favorite rolls from one of the local grocery stores. So I went and got a latte and talked to the lady that owns the place for a few minutes and the went across the street for the rolls. Weather is supposed to be like this pretty much all week. So we're doing something indoors with DD & the three little ones later in the week... Seattle Aquarium. Pictures to follow! :tongue_smilie:

What you are experiencing is called Reflux. It can be dangerous, and the acid that comes up can burn your esophagus. You are definitely eating too close to bedtime. It also happens to me if I've eaten too much at dinner time.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Maintenance..... some days it seems like that will never come. I don't know that I'll ever be able to eat any differently than I am right now. But that's okay. I am not losing right now but I'm sure that will change after I have my knee replacement next month. I just hope the rest of this year is not a wash. I'm struggling right now. My doctor's orders are 1/2 cup 6X a day... but that's not practical. I eat 3X a day... small breakfast because I'm fairly tight in the morning, small salad at lunch time, approx 4 oz of protein at night and some veggies... probably eat 1 - 1 1/2 cups at dinner. Small snack in the afternoon, small snack in the evening (jello pudding, 60-70 cal. cup). Tater tots.... probably NOT a good choice. Have you tried eggbeaters?

Meredith, I've had my Wii and Wii Fit for over a year now. I love them! I can be very competitive and I enjoy trying to beat my own best scores! A successful Wii session means at least one new "best" score! The Balance exercises are my favorite. Probably don't burn a lot of calories, but usually work up a sweat, and it's that much time I'm not sitting watching TV! If my knee isn't acting up too bad, I like to do some of those and then some other stuff on the Wii Sports... bowling, golfing, tennis. The boxing is a good workout, but I have a hard time making my punches go where I want them to so I get frustrated with it pretty quickly! Enjoy!! Hope everyone enjoys the holiday and makes smart and healthy choices! Safeway has the 40 calorie Hebrew National hot dogs on sale for $2.99. They're usualy $5.49 so I bought two packages and that's what DH and I are eating.. little BBQ cookout here at our condo. I'll have mine without bread so I can have a little potato salad. And I bought corn on the cob... DH broke them all in half for smaller portions. And I got a watermelon. So trying everything we can to keep the calorie count down and still enjoy. Did you all know that Orowheat has come out with these little buns that look like hamburger buns but half the thickness and only 100 calories?? Come in Whole Wheat and Multigrain. I don't tolerate any kind of bread well, but had one toasted yesterday with salmon on it and it went down okay.

YES! And what a lovely day we're having here in the NW!! It's a gorgeous day! I think it's supposed to be in the mid 80's today. We're hanging out at home and having a BBQ with a few of the neighbors this afternoon. We might go to church to watch the fireworks tonight. They're having a big display complete with professional pyrotechnicians and I heard it was excellent last year. However, I must confess, I'm not a big fan of the big loud noises! So we may just decide to stay home and watch the Boston Pops & NYC displays on TV. I think they're broadcasting one of the local Seattle shows, too. Internet was down briefly yesterday because of a fire downtown in a big communications hub. A FB friend helped me figure out how to fix my Outlook program, so I'm back in business with all my techy stuff making me a much happier camper!

Hi! A typical day's food for me starts with a small eggbeaters omelet... a little finely chopped imit. crab, onion, mushroom and a small amt of grated white cheese, usually skim mozarella. Lunch is usually a small salad... a little seafood on top. I like the imit. crab, so use that a lot in salads, or maybe some shrimp or tuna. I eat a LOT of fish. Dinner is about 4 oz of meat or fish and some veggies. I only eat beef about 1-2 times a week. In the afternoon, I sometimes have about 1 oz of white cheese for a snack. Evening snack, if any, is usually jello 60 calorie pudding cup. I like the rice/creme brule. Some time during the day I often have a SF, FF latte... probably has about 6-8 oz of skim milk in it. I'm losing very slowly right now, but unable to get in much exercise because of arthritis in the knees. Will have knee replacement surgery at the end of the summer and that should help a lot!
