Lucky #7 are still going strong !!!
phyllser replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I read an article about that somewhere a week or so ago. Sounded pretty interesting! Had a nice Thanksgiving with our friends.. but the turkey was a little dry... did I already say this??? Don't remember. Anyway, couldn't eat much turkey... couldn't find the dark meat. But I had my share of mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, peas and sweet potatoes. And a tiny piece of apple pie and a spoonful of blackberry cobbler. Later we stopped by Janet's... she only lives about 2 miles from where we were. So we got to meet her DS, GS, 2 GD, and DIL. Food was all still out so I picked at the turkey and had a couple of bites of her green bean casserole, and a deviled egg. And a margarita!! And she gave us some of that delicious double layer pumpkin pie to take home with us. I just finished that off! So...in lieu of all that, I did 15 minutes on the bike after water aerobics this morning!! -
HI, WELCOME!! You should be pretty much back to normal by one month out. But your first fill will probably be at about the six week point, so you'll want to be home for that and not travel for a couple of days afterward. Best of luck to you.

There was a potluck at the chapel, but we didn't go because we were invited to have dinner with some old friends who are down here in a time share condo for the week. It was quite an enjoyable day. Dinner was great, but I couldn't eat much turkey because it was too dry and there was very little dark meat. Earl said they didn't slice up the thigh. He ate one drumstick. Maybe I should've asked for the other! Now I'm hungry because I didn't have much meat... so I'm eating the very last piece of your beef jerky! I have very much enjoyed it! I almost forgot I still had a piece left! Someone here accused me of hiding it! That's right... I DID!! Because I knew he'd eat it all if I didn't. It was already opened when we got back from shopping last weekend! So when he went to bed I hid it!! LOL!!:biggrin::biggrin: GS did give his girl a diamond ring... small diamond... but they say it is just a "promise ring"! I saw a picture of it on FB. It's very pretty! Glad you had an enjoyable day and great dinner.

I've tasted that Costco ham and it tasted pretty good. It's been years since I've had a honey baked, but I remember they are pretty good! Green bean casserole is one of my favorites. If I don't get any with my dinner today I'm going to raid your refrigerator for leftovers!!:biggrin::biggrin: These people are worse health nuts than we are so I'm not sure what to expect. Items we were asked to bring: FF cream cheese, FF sour cream, 1 lb baby carrots and a bag of pretzels! Munchies for before dinner. -
Sounds delicious!! Apple/cranberry pie... ummmm, that sounds good! Beautiful day in the desert here, too!! You've been a busy bee already!! The GYM, too! I'm impressed! Oh, my.... the smells in the air over here are driving me nuts!! There's roast turkey in the air!! Among other things! Our hosts just called to say they were sliding dinner about an hour, but we'll probably be on our way in a little while. Probably will stop by your place later for a taste of that pie!

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes and the kudos!! I did have a fantastic birthday! I was 63 when I had my surgery. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!! Under 200 lb for the first time in about 25-30 years and it feels great!! Hope your Mom will give WLS some serious thought! It's worth it... SHE'S worth it!!

You are all such special BLESSINGS in my life and I am thankful for each one of you!! God Bless and have a wonderful day!! -
Thanks so much for all your birthday wishes!! I had a GREAT fun-filled day! I had my very favorite spaghetti & meat balls for lunch at one of my favorite area restaurants (chose atmosphere!) ... brought home enough leftovers for three more meals! Went to see "Blind Side" this afternoon.. great movie! Then DH took me to Starbucks, and we ended the day at Walmart! I had phone calls from my Mom, one of my sisters and all four kids (though one didn't seem to remember that it was my birthday)! I always had a birthday cake growing up, and even at 66, it doesn't seem like a birthday without birthday cake. So at Walmart I thought I'd buy myself a cupcake. But they had these little squares of birthday cake for $1.50, so I bought one! Perfect! Had a little wine when I got home, and my cake! DH was annoyed that I didn't share! But he bought himself a little cherry pie that he didn't share! I feel NO guilt!! LOL Looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner with old friends tomorrow.

I was serenaded with "Happy Birthday" at TOPS, at the restaurant here at our park... one of my friends was there and led everyone there in singing to me, all the water aerobics folks, my SIL over the phone, grandkids.... over the phone, and Mom & Uncle Ed! What fun! I feel really loved! Looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner with old friends tomorrow. They emailed me directions this afternoon, and turns out it's right down the street from Janet's. -

Long day and I'm tired! Left for pool at 8:45 a.m. Water aerobics, hot tub, shower, then straight to beading class. Didn't get back until going on 3 p.m. By then I was tired, hungry and had a back ache! Too late for lunch, so I had a few little tiny cubes of cheese, a couple of nuts and two small glasses of wine. Sat on neighbors back porch and visited for about an hour with all of that. Then had some cole slaw that i made the other day, and a mug of that delicious white chicken chili. But, in between, had a phone call from a good friend up in WA telling me that our friend died last night. So now I"m really bummed. She said it was her decision to quit all the life support, dialysis, etc. She just wanted to be done. But, back in the 80's, she was a dear friend and mentor and I am so sad to hear that she's gone. I had a feeling she was going to die very close to my birthday ever since I heard she was having health problems again. So glad I got to see her last month. Several of us got together for lunch the day before we headed south. I would've hugged her one more time if I'd known that was the last time I would see her! Now I want a cookie REALLY BAD!! But only thing sweet around here is my 60 calorie puddings! Going to try to make the best of my birthday tomorrow. Always a special day when I was growing up. Earl is the youngest of seven, so not so much at his house! He just doesn't have it in his heart to make much of it... I'm really whining! Better sign off! -
Good to see some action here!! I have birthday tomorrow and then Thanksgiving the next day! TG dinner with good friends from days gone by! They are in the area for Thanksgiving week and invited us to their time-share condo for dinner. Looking forward to that. You didn't hear this... but I am going to Celebrate my birthday by going out to either lunch or dinner at one of my two favorite Italian restaurants!! Haven't decided which one yet. One has excellent food, but atmosphere.. not so much. The other one has atmosphere, pretty comparable food, but higher prices, too! I have to decide!

I use the weight I was when I started the pre-op diet... like the weight from my first appointment with my surgeon. I don't consider that cheating because that's when the journey started... that's when my commitment began. -

I don't know.... tilapia, scallops and sometimes salmon seem to do it to me. I think I chewed pretty good... and I usually eat pretty slowly. I think I'll have a cup of tea. Then maybe the rest of it will go down. You should speak to the manager at Stater Bros! That needs to change! Of course, WalMart doesn't offer, but I think when we go to Von's they do. As for Andrew... what I used to do when our kids were in their teens... if they were home when I came home with groceries... I'd sit in the garage and honk the horn.. That meant they better come down and help me!! LOL And that reminds me of a good story! Earl used to LOVE Plymouth Valiants. Our very first one was a 1969 that we bought a few months before Jodie was born. She was well in to her teens and we still had it! He didn't want to give it up. He used it for work. Then one day it wouldn't go in reverse anymore. So we had to make sure we never got in a situation where we had to back up. And when we got home, we'd pull up in front of the house and honk the horn until a couple of kids came out to push us backwards in to the driveway so it would be already to pull out forward next time we went out! That didn't last very long, though. He finally broke down and traded it in. I think that's when we got our VW bus... which we needed because we had 4 teenagers at the time! Okay... end of long story. A little trivia for you. -

Earl sauteed some scallops tonight... onions, mushrooms, garlic, celery. It was very good.... and some spinach , couple of bites of cole slaw. And then I slimed and pb'd! Very frustrating. Can't seem to keep down my seafood quite often. I don't know what's up with that! But it sure is annoying. -

I've been taking Synthroid for about 2 years. Always cold, too, and was struggling with depression.. now on Sertraline (Zoloft) and much better with that. Still cold all the time though. Weight loss has been very slow but steady. -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hope you have a GREAT day! Wow... birthday and anniversary just a few weeks apart!! CELEBRATE!!:party::biggrin:

Hip is fine..no problems. Just took 3 ibuprofen when I got home. I agree about the colors of those rooms... Nice house but those would have to be changed! Yeah, I bet that chili would be good with turkey, too. -
YIKES! That's not good!! I didn't realize corn was harvested this late! So you liked my turkey recipe!??:biggrin::biggrin:
-
Yeah, we threw in a ziplock baggie of chopped rotisserie chicken that was in the freezer. I used two cans of white beans and a can of black soy beans. Also added carrots, celery, green pepper and mushrooms. It was SO good!

Okay... want to know how the day REALLY went??? Church, lunch (salad that Earl made me... too big, tuna on top and way too much feta cheese, but it was okay), watched a little football, but no teams I was really interested in were broadcast so I had a hard time concentrating. Never did go for a walk... just a scooter ride up to the office to get yesterday's mail and around the park stopping to chat with a few people. After that, Earl went to do laundry, so I used the opportunity to make an assault on the kitchen!! LOL! I made some KILLER White chicken Chili! Oh, my it was good!! Other than that, all I did was be on the laptop.... FB & LBT, and talk on the phone! That was good... nice chat with two friends up in WA... one was filling me in on our friend who is in ICU, probably will NOT be leaving the hospital.. don't think she can beat this, short of a miracle... kidneys shut down. The other call... connected with daughter of a former neighbor and she urged me to call her mom, so I did and we had a very enjoyable chat. Then I talked to Tracy! The rest of the afternoon was spent on the chili! Oh, my it is so good! All healthy, too! This is the official recipe, but I changed a few things. White Chicken Chili recipe OK - here it is. Measurements are nowhere near exact as I don't measure anything. 1 T olive oil 1 lb chicken, chunked 1 sm-med onion, chopped 1.5 c. chicken broth (I use broth, but then add a bit of "better than bouillon" over the top to amp up the flavor) 1 small bunch cilantro (about a handful, mostly leaves but stems are OK too) chopped 2 t cumin 1 t oregano 1 - 2 4oz cans chopped green chilies (or mild to hot chilies from the garden finely chopped. I generally use one can chilies and one red medium hot chili fresh - I also often add some red bell pepper for color) 2 -3 cloves garlic, minced or pressed 1/4 tsp cayenne (Add it. Trust me) 1-2 cans white Beans - Great Northern or Cannelloni (I like to mix them) For toppings: jack cheese, sour creme and fresh chopped cilantro _______________________ Heat oil in pot and brown chicken, getting all those nice brown bits on the bottom of the pan. Remove chicken and set aside. Add a touch more oil and onions to the pan and saute a few minutes until tender. Add the chicken broth and the remainder of the veg and herbs and deglaze the pan. Simmer on med-low, covered, for 30min to 1 hr to meld well. Once melded, add the chicken and the beans and heat through. Once warm, taste it. If it's a bit bland, add salt or better than bouillon to taste. If it needs some spice, add extra cumin, cayenne or chilies to taste. You can substitute garlic powder for the fresh garlic and dried cilantro for the fresh, and it's OK, but it isn't the same... Top with shredded jack cheese, sour creme and chopped fresh cilantro. MY CHANGES: Okay.... I didn't add the bouillon, forgot the oregano, and I didn't have any cayenne pepper so I put in about a TBsp of this HOT Garlic sauce I found when we were in Canada at that little store up in the mountains. I used 2 cans of reduced sodium chicken broth. And I did not drain the two cans of white beans. I did put in one can of black soy beans, and those were drained and rinsed. When I sauteed the onion, I added celery, chopped carrots, mushrooms, green pepper and about 5 cloves of garlic. Also added a little chili powder, and quite a bit of freshly ground pepper. Doesn't really matter what kind of cheese you put on top. The little dab of fat free sour cream really added a lot. -
