C'mon, girl!! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and get goin' again!! You can do it! You know all the "stuff", just have to make a new start. Look how far you've come. Even with your gain, you don't weigh what you did a year ago. It can be slow going sometimes. I belong to TOPS so I count that as my weekly weigh in. Yesterday they gave the "awards" for the month of May. I got a little red heart charm for my net loss for the month...... ONE HALF POUND!! So, May was a very slow month for me. But I've determined that JUNE will be better! So, lets set a goal for June.. say 4 lb.... one lb a week?? How about it? I can relate to the exercise problems because I have bad knees and I'm somewhat restricted in what I can do. We bought a Wii last month and I'm getting my exercise with that right now. I have the Wii Fit that just came out and I'm doing some balance exercises, strength training, etc. It's not real rigorous but it gets me out of my chair and it's fun. I know it's helping. So, do whatever you can do. Anything to get you off the couch an moving.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I need two knee replacements, too. I had a partial on one in 2002 but it's been giving me some discomfort. So saw an ortho surgeon a couple of weeks ago. After x-raying both he told me the one that needs to be converted to a total is more critical than the one causing me most of the pain!! I was surprised at that! He said that the weight loss is causing the hardware to loosen up. But he wants to do each one only ONCE, so he wants me to get my BMI down to 40 before he does them! That will take me quite a few months so I'm afraid I won't be doing this until next spring/summer.

Hey!! 3.5 lb sounds GREAT to me!! Not ridiculous at all!! My weigh in this morning?? I'm down 1/4 lb for the month of May!! :smile2: I WILL DO BETTER IN JUNE!!! Get that ticker back up there!!! PROGRESS IS PROGRESS!! I can deal with slow as long as it's in the right direction. Just think about where I was a year ago and it keeps me pressing on! I will admit, I shed a few tears two weeks ago when, at our TOPS weigh in, I "turtled" (stayed the same)! But, we can't let it get us down when we get stalled. I even changed my ticker even though it was only 1/4 lb. Rome wasn't built in a day! And, as Janet likes to remind us, we didn't get this way overnight, and we're not going to lose it overnight!

starting BMI over 50? come on in!

Could you send some of that heat up to the Pacific NW?? We lived in OK for 15+ years and I am missing that heat right now!! June and we can't seem to get the thermometer past the 60 mark!! And SUNSHINE??? Forget about it!

OH, my!! You definitely need help!! OKay.... I need to be positive and say... I will be in those 20's in no time! I'll take the 20's... but I don't do dresses. My legs are too ugly and that's not going to change any time soon.

That's awfully nice of you. I don't think I'm quite ready for 18's, but it won't be long. In fact, one top I got last week (at Wal-Mart) is 18/20, but pants are 22/24 mostly, a couple of 2Xs. All my 3X are either already in the GoodWill box or will be when I get around to pulling them out of my closet. I used to find really nice things at the exchange, so that was somewhat frustrating. The one in 29 Palms still carries some plus sizes. Pretty soon I won't need them, but they still are carrying things that would only appeal to the quite young. As Janet would say, not "AGE APPROPRIATE" for a more mature type such as myself! But, to tell the truth, the mall is getting kind of like that, too!! No wonder I like Wal-Mart clothes. I used to be able to find a lot of things at Target, but they are going the same way. And all the fabrics seem so flimsy & nasty.

Good that you took some time for yourself! And, celebrate those NSV's! We'll all have to work on the "fat girl thinking"!! We went to the Navy support facility today... I had my heart set on these shoes I saw two weeks ago and didn't buy! DH intimidates me about buying shoes... he thinks all anyone needs is two pairs of shoes! So we go back today to do some grocery shopping and now the smallest size they have is 7 1/2... way too big for me. AND, I wanted to look at clothes. First couldn't find anyone to help me, then only a guy. He says "how can I help you?" I say, " Do you have any clothes that aren't size 2 teeny bopper clothes???" He says they don't have any plus sizes anymore. I'd already figured that out so I had an attitude!! So I told him he also didn't have anything that anyone over 30 would wear!! So I went home frustrated, and with nothing but cauliflower, lettuce, etc.!! I did get some Tostito Queso in a jar.. only 40 calories for 2 Tbsp. Figured I can use 1 TBSP in my eggbeater omelet in the morning. I found something called "Coromega" Orange Flavor Omega 3 Supplements.. about the consistency of yogurt or pudding, in squeeze tubes that you can either squeeze directly in to your mouth, or onto a spoon, or into something else like yogurt, etc. Only 20 calories, once a day, no sugar or artificial sweetner, colored with beta carotene, no dairy, yeast, wheat or gluten, tastes decent. I found it at Costco.. but Janet & I were told about it at a support group meeting we attended at her dr's office. All these body image issues you gals are dealing with are getting scary!!

The one-legged things.... I think it says you can lean on something... so I use my cane for those. It helps a lot. BTW, WELCOME!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I just happened to be in the right store at the right time when I bought my Wii. But, I've seen them in Fred Meyer and Target since then. If I were you, I'd ask your local stores when is the best time to come in and get one. They might even put you on a waiting list and call you. The Wii Fit I pre-ordered on Wal-Mart.com, so I got mine in the mail the day they were released.

DD & I CANNOT do that either. DH & SIL did okay, but not great. It is much harder than it looks. Watching the other "Mii" feet sort of helps, but I finally just sat down & gave up on that one! Tomorrow will be better!! And then it's the weekend!! Chicken salad sounds GREAT!! The HAG had it coming! Worse teacher any of our four kids ever had was our oldest daughter's 2nd grade teacher on base at Minot!! OH, she was a witch!!

Yeah, we miss you when you're not here. I've been gone a lot the last couple of days. Primetimers yesterday and steering committee for same today. ALL afternoon. That sounds really good!!! It doesn't get better when they get older, does it??!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yes... I got mine a week ago. Love it! My favorites are the balance exercises. I can't run... bad knees, but found out you can walk on that one, so that's what I do. Incidentally, our SIL thought he'd be funny & see if he could fake out the Wii and not walk or run at all, but just swing his arms as though he were running. The Wii did not know the difference! My DH likes to disobey and when you're told to stay behind the trainer, he speeds up and passes the trainer... Guess what happens then??? He falls flat on his face in the dirt and when he gets up he has to chase a dog instead of the trainer! I like the sports things too.. bowling, golf, esp, but I usually do the boxing too because it's a good work out.

Do you mean the "Before and After" thread?? It's not PICS ONLY... comments are allowed and then deleted after a couple of days. But there is also a place where you can post photo albums. Is that what you're looking for?

I do a couple of the yoga things... breathing exercise is one. The bubble thing isn't too bad... just keep trying. You have to lean way forward on your toes to keep going. On the running thing... I just walk as steadily as I can... not too fast. Been on a busy schedule for about the last week, so I haven't been able to do it twice a day as planned, and I even missed a couple of days. I quit getting them, too, but only for certain threads... including this one.

Been gone all day so just catching up on all the posts. I am overwhelmed by everyone's care and concern. This is such a special group and I'm so blessed to be a part of it. I don't know what I'd do without the support I find here!!:grouphug: Steph, I'm having a blast with the Wii, too. The balance exercises are my favorites. Did yours unlock the bubble thing yet?? It's pretty funny. You're inside a bubble and have to make your way down a stream without touching the sides and bursting your bubble! Have you tried "running" in place in the aerobics section? You're supposed to stay behind your "trainer" but DH thinks it's fun to catch up with the trainer and then pass him. But I think what he really likes is how it makes me laugh when he then falls on his face in the dirt!!! And then they make him chase a dog instead! And, yes, the Wii Fit age is always lower than the Wii Sports gives me. I have both in my signature. Yesterday when I did the age test on the sports program, it made me do THREE boxing exercises! Boxing is NOT my favorite. We have our TV above the fireplace, so it's high on the wall and the sensor is on top of it. So I think because it's so high and I'm so short, that my punches are just not going where I'm aiming them. Although, I don't seem to have that problem with any of the other sports. But I can't do the skii jump thing either. I always end up with a "FAILED TAKEOFF" and roll down the ski run!! Might be the same problem. Anyway, I think the scale is quite accurate. My home scale is irratic. I bet I got on & off 12 times this morning with that many different weights and with a 12 lb range!! So I trust the Wii weight far more than I trust my digital scale. :scared2:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Great post, Sadie!! I like the "obesity fridge" with the full length mirror idea, too!! Yep!! This is the best support group there is!! You should know within a few days if you're okay or too tight. My doctor's recommendation was to not travel for about 3-4 days after a fill... until you are sure you're going to be okay. So 9 days should be fine.

Glad you found us,Juicy! Yes, by all means, jump in and read, read, read. You can learn a lot while you're waiting for your surgery date. Sorry about your family "situation"! Dealing with that has got to be quite a challenge. I am a "snowbird"... we spend about 6 mos in WA and 6 mos in CA in our RV.

Hey!! I was here... 9:30 a.m.-- hair/protein/fat discussion. Remember?? Didn't feel well most of the day... stomach cramps, slight nausea, tired and achy. Much better now, though. DH had a similar thing a couple of days ago. He was sure he had eaten leftovers that were too old... but then I got it too... and it's a couple of days later. So, has to be a virus. Anyways, not anything too miserable. I just took it easy most of the day. DH had a molar extraction this morning, so we make a good pair of couch potatoes today! I just scootered over to Albertson's & got us some fat free, 60 cal fudgcicles. That was right after his periodontist called to see if he was eating some cold foods & taking it easy. Nice of her to call & check on him. I did do my Wii Fit stuff today, but may skip the sports things for today being that my energy level is not up to par. The more you use the Wii Fit, the more features get unlocked. There are aerobics exercises, yoga, strength training and balance exercises. My favorites are the balance exercises... which is good because my balance is terrible. I favor my right leg because the left knee is worse than the right. The ski slalom you have to lean to the right and left to ski through the flags as you go downhill. DH was showing off for DD & SIL yesterday showing them how fast he could run. So SIL decided to give it a try and discovered that you can fool the Wii in to thinking you're running just by moving your arms!!:sad: That's the only thing that you don't do on the balance board.

Good job with DGD!! And with the new chick at the gym!! Hair loss thing makes sense! We've always assumed it was lack of protein, but if we're following the rules, we know we're getting enough protein.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Sounds like you might need a bit of an unfill. I'd say if you are getting heartburn for four hours on water, you're probably too tight. Anyone else want to chime in on this?? I haven't yet experienced too tight, but it sounds like what others have described.
