Good PEP TALK!! Boy! We miss you when you're gone! Needed to hear all that stuff! Will you bribe me with some wine?? You got that right!! It's pretty annoying!! I love those yellow, red & orange peppers... $2 each, or more!! Even the green peppers are outrageous. Strawberries... finally sort of reasonable. Even a head of lettuce... terrible! Prices getting worse every day! Yep! The healthier the meat/fish, the more expensive it is! We are fortunate to have three different grocery stores in the neighborhood, so we study the ads every Tuesday when they come out and I ride around on my scooter and get the sale items. Those peppers... one of the three stores has them 2 for $3 just about every week. DH was celebrating finding a head of lettuce for 58 cents the other day! TOPS weigh in today & I was up 1/2 lb. It's okay.. still down 6 lb for the month of June. And, it's been over 90 degrees here for several days & that always makes me retain fluid. Next week we switch to a new digital scale. We've been weighing on the old & the new for three weeks now & the new is 1 1/2 lb heavier, so everyone has to lose 1 1/2 lb this week just to stay even! And with July 4th weekend, that will be a challenge for everyone, including me!! BBQ at DD's on Friday & another at church on Sunday... may skip that one. I can't resist the hot dogs and potato salad. Then Monday, after weigh in, our CA RV park WA state reunion... a potluck, of course!! Yikes! Have to put on my armour and read Janet's "just say no" post over & over for the next week! I'm going in for 1 year follow-up and probably a slight fill on 7/16.. a week before we leave on our train trip to M of A & parts East. Restriction is pretty good, but I'd like to be a little big tighter.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Average rule of thumb is about 60 Gm protein a day. If you're not getting tht, there's some flavorless, sugar free Whey protein powder you can buy to add to things like your applesauce, tomato soup, etc. to ramp up your protein intake a little if you find it's low. The kind I got did not effect the taste of what I was eating/drinking at all. Sliming= hmmm.... kind of indescribable, actually. Your band decides you've eaten too fast, too much, etc. and starts producing an extra amount of saliva type stuff... only thicker, and it just sort of comes up. Only happened to me twice. The first time it came by surprise and it so totally freaked out my DH that i started laughing! He was not amused. Second time I made it to the BR okay!

That's good! Yeah, I don't think it's too uncommon for one to work it's way out like that. But I freaked a little bit when I saw mine, too. Glad you got it taken care of.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yeah, chicken and tuna are my two things. And most of the time I can eat either with no problem, but the one time I've PBed and two times I've slimed (not bad for 11 months out) it's been chicken. Yesterday I fixed a grilled chicken Caesar salad. No problem. A couple of weeks ago I ate one small, overcooked, BBQed chicken drumstick and it almost came back up. Go figure?? Sorry about your shoulder. I've been having issues with my knee this weekend. Both knees are bad. I use a handicap scooter, but not around the house. For exercise... my Wii and Wii Fit... just careful about not over straining the knees. I love the balance exercises and may have overdone it this weekend. Used my DD's Wii a couple of times because they're in Mexico and we're sort of housesitting part-time. So I was determined to beat GS, DD & GD scores on some of those things... skiing, soccer, etc. So probably skiied one too many times and now I"m paying! Prednisone should help you. Water aerobics should be okay if you're careful.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Amen, Sister!! Me, too!! I've been banded 11 months and have NEVER vomited, thrown up, one PB, mild episode, two sliming episodes. Just have to be very careful. Don't eat things you know you shouldn't. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. Both times my problem food was chicken! I have felt "stuck" a few times... often with tuna fish... go figure??!

Janet just called to say she's arrived in Vegas after a bit of a turbulent flight. She's getting Dramamine for the trip home Sunday! She's checked in to her hotel.... fabulous room, she says, and she's excited about starting her weekend with the LapBand folks, and strutting her stuff in that slinky, sexy dress tomorrow night! Her room is on the 59th floor of the 60 story WYNN, so she has a fabulous view of the Vegas strip. Trump Towers is right across the street. No internet until she gets home Sunday night, so she asked me to fill you alll in.

DS has a pilot's license and a small plane. I went up with him years ago... like 1991, and I remember him being concerned about my weight. He took us up in a four seater. I've never been up in his plane. But DH got his license after he retired and I went up with him twice. He had to put less fuel in to compensate for my weight!! And I was a nervous wreck! I didn't want to tell him, but my door sort of popped part way open on takeoff one of those trips! And my seat belt came undone! So I was hanging on to the other seat for dear life!! DS is just finishing building a new plane.. very small, too, but maybe some day I can go up in that one with him! He's been working on it for 12 years and it's now ready for him to put the wings on. I really don't enjoy the ride because I'm nervous, but I LOVE the opportunity to take pictures, so I have gone those few times!

I had that happen after gall bladder surgery. I'm an RN, worked for health insurance at the time, so I showed it to our medical director and he told me to just snip it off at the skin and not worry about it. I did and had no further problems. It had been a little inflamed looking, but it cleared up.

I had to chuckle at your comment about worrying about other people watching your plate because lately I catch myself doing that--not worrying, watching what OTHER people put on their plates, and being rather judgmental (silently, of course) at the amounts of food people eat! My thinking about portions has changed drastically! I have a photo slideshow that I use as a screensaver on my laptop and every now and then this picture pops up, taken several years ago, of me eating this humongous plate of spaghetti, with a basket of garlic bread sitting on the table, a bottle of wine and two wine glasses! It makes me cringe every time I see it to think that I used to eat that much!! I just about NEVER eat bread anymore. I do have a glass of wine, maybe two, almost every afternoon, but the glass I use is the size of a brandy sniffer... probably less than half the size of the wine glasses we used to use. I belong to TOPS... have for many years.... and Monday I'm giving the lesson... short 10-15 minute thing we do, and my topic??? Portion control!! I'm taking a deck of cards as one of my "props".... the approximate size of an appropriate meat portion.

That's the kind of babysitting we're used to doing!! We figured out BF car not there, so GD will be alone when she comes home, which will be in the wee small hours of the morning. So we decided to come home!! No point in being there! Kids are never there! We'll try again tomorrow. Need to establish our presence for the weekend!! So there will be no party planning! Are we having FUN yet????

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Welcome, Gail!! You need to subscribe to this thread. There should be a tab at the top that says "tools" and that's where you find "subscribe to this thread." I don't see it there now! Maybe because I'm already subscribed. Or they may have moved it under "Members Area". I'm not much help, am i??? They keep changing everything and I can't keep up!!

I am SO bored! Here we are "babysitting" 18 & 19 yr old who are never here!! GS came home, showered and went to his girlfriend's house. GD came home from work, boyfriend in tow, introduced us to him & left again! So, very tempting to just go home. But then what if he's still with her when they get back. We don't know if they were in one car or two. So, we're prisoners here. I want my laptop. I want my recliner! I want to sleep in my own bed! FIVE more days... we're half way there!! TIDBIT from July/August Saturday Night Post: Of course I overeat when I'm stressed!! Don't you know "stressed" spelled backwards is DESSERTS!!

Congrats on how well you are doing! You have the right attitude! Yes, you should be able to go out to eat. Enjoy the fellowship, make good choices, and don't worry about what anyone else thinks! Welcome, Julia! Do you have to do a pre-op diet? Try to get your head ready for the post-op phase. Don't worry about things like erosion. Focus on the positive. Study your doc' post-op instructions, foods to eat, etc. so you'll be prepared. Blessings to you! Disclosure is a highly personal thing. Depends on how you feel about it. I didn't really care who knew, and my DH told anyone that I didn't! :hurray: I think the element of accountability is good, but you may feel like those who "know" are watching you to see what you're eating. But, you're right, it IS a dilemma! I haven't been sorry about telling anyone, and everyone has been really supportive and not at all judgemental. But I know some have had negative experiences because of telling family/friends who disapproved of their decision. And there are those out there who will imply that weight loss surgery is "cheating"!! We know better!! It's hard work!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Welcome back!! So good to hear from you again! I sure hope the fill will help you on your way again. I had to go 6 months between fills when we were in Southern CA last winter for the same reason. Couldn't find anyone who would do it for a reasonable fee. But it's okay. I still averaged about 5 lb a month. And it's not going all that much faster now, but I can tell quite a difference in my restriction. Last month I only lost 1/2 lb, but this month I'm already down about 6 lb.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I KNEW you would do it!!! CONGRATS! That's okay! An extra level of accountability is okay! Hopefully they won't make you feel like you're under a microscope! Support and encouragement is what you need! You'll do it, Sadie!! You're on your way!
