  1. Wow. This is quite sad. While I don't defend people who are asking about funnel cakes etc... I do have a somewhat different perspective.

Not everyone is intelligent or has common sense. Many people (me ) were self pay and had NO pre op classes, no nutritionist, no counseling, no booklet to refer to. My friend on the other hand had all of that plus a huge binder to refer to. Thank God I'm in the medical profession and read what I needed to.

We all got overweight for different reasons. Some lack of education, some emotional trauma, lack of money or resources, hereditary, or any other reason we know nothing about.

The sleeve didn't cure them but then the sleeve didn't cure their mind either.

It's like an alcoholic---just because he is in the 12 step program doesn't mean he knows it all or can control it.

They go to seek advice and help -so do some here.

No one is perfect and yes they might need justification but maybe that is their coping mechanism that they are working thru. Let's hope they are successful with whatever coping mechanisms work for them (instead of food)

Yes , there are trolls and really dumb questions but we are not in their shoes and don't know their intentions or reasons.

I see patients who are on 5 liters of oxygen but still smoke, I had a patients husband tell me he puts 18 sugars in his coffee and gives his diabetic wife juice with no idea it had tons of sugar in it. I have patients that have no idea what a carb or Protein is.

I don't ridicule them or make them feel dumb. I try to educate them.

I think everyone hopes to be a success story and be around to help guide others. But unfortunately the sleeve doesn't do the work and there are so many people that need support whether it's to educate or listen or just let them vent.

Yes we all know it should be common sense not to eat Cookies, cake and candy. But if someone takes the time to ask maybe you will be the ONE voice of reason that helps them on their journey and gets thru to them.

Performing elective surgery on someone who is too incompetent to educate themselves should be a crime. Surely you don't mean these people were forced into a surgery they weren't able to handle intellectually.

Perhaps another "hoop" to "jump through" for surgical approval is a test on nutrition, food progression stages, pre and post op diet options, etc.

I think that would be fab, personally.

  2. Ssze1109 that was very well said!!! I am at the airport now coming from California (where I just had surgery) back to my home and someone referred this site and others and the responses to some comments made me feel that perhaps this is not the right spot for me. I am self pay (well my job paid cash) so I don't have as much information as I would like regarding "after surgery" most of my knowledge was researched on everything up to surgery date. All I could think of was how much I wanted it and find my self like the fish who escaped in finding Nemo "now what" so I thought that I would join others to see things to eat that worked well for others. If I was eating right, healthy, proportioned, etc I would not have needed the surgery. I have made it thru the surgery 4days ago) and feel like I'm going to be that one gaining it back when I lose finally lose it from ratings habits I failed to properly correct

So you had surger, you're at the airport, you joined this site at 10:28, read for eleven minutes and posted the above at 10:39 deciding this place is not for you?

    Huh...

  3. I used to have an English teacher who would answer the question "Can I go to the bathroom?" with "Yes you can, but you may not!". I always hated that teacher, but I did learn the difference between CAN and MAY.

HA!!! I didn't read the responses before I posted!! Was I your English teacher?

    Nope. I taught math/science/EXed. HAHAHAA!

    I need tutoring.

MAY i become an obedient student ?

Go stand in the corner. We will talk during detention.

  4. Okay so I had something on Wednesday that didn't agree with me. Today's Friday, and I'm still really sick from it. I'm not able to get my Protein or fluids in because it makes me so sick and I'm running to the bathroom. I've talked with my surgeons office and they're not concerned but I really didn't think I would still be sick from it. Plus I'm extremely gassy (burps) from it. Has anyone else experienced staying sick for multiple days because a couple bites of something didn't agree with them?

  5. @@suzzzzz Hello friend! Happy New Year to you as well :)

You're talking about taking responsibility for your actions and that's not behavior that's seen very often around here. It drives me NUTS the way folks want their poor choices validated.

I just ate a piece of cheese toast. It was a crappy choice. If I'm lucky, I won't eat even more because I was dumb enough to have white bread which I know is a 'gateway food' for me. I own it :)

Yummmmmmm... cheeese toast. I haven't had that since I was a small child. Of course, I don't think I've seen the cheese my mom used since way back when either. It was a white cheese with some sort of seeds in it. OMG that stuff was awesome melted on bread in the broiler. I wouldn't know where to even start looking for that cheese now. But thank you so much for making me think about it, because now I'm going to be obsessed with it. LOL.

Wegmans or Whole Foods is always the answer. Go to the cheese counter and describe it. They can find it.

  6. What the heck. Why not? I made this meme for another incident, but never used it. So I'll just trot it out now.

I have that meme in the flavors of a$$h0le and idiot. :D

I generally try to stay away from those terms - except in private conversations. ;-) I've actually told people on various forums point blank that I am not allowed to write what I think about them because of the forum rules. It usually gets the point across.

I made this version after someone here came all unglued on me for what she took to be a serious post when it was humorous. I sprinkle humor everywhere, but it is usually not hard to tell which is which.

Please note that I only use them in private groups and conversation. :D

  8. So.....stop.

Just stop. Quit sabotaging your ability to gain results.

It's not too late to get realigned with the suggested methods your bariatric group instructed you on.

You use the term, "I can't ". I'm calling BS on this. You can, you simply choose not to.

You've had weight loss surgery.....altered your body in order to set yourself up for losing weight. It's not to late to make the mental adjustments needed to support this.

People the world over are flooding their gyms and diet centers this month in hopes of fulfilling their New Year's resolutions to lose weight. Be a joiner, lol. Follow along.....or better yet....lead the way. You've had a head start on them.....now leave them in the dust.

    Or don't.

    Your choice.

Keep doing as you've always done and be content with not getting the most from your surgery.

Or follow the rules and thrive with the benefits that will be forthcoming.

Smart and cute to look at.

  9. Do a meal prep. When you go out put some healthy snakes in your bag that way when he stops to get something you will have your snake ready. 9 pounds is so close. Watch your salts and flush your body with lots of Water. You got this!

    Snakes?

  10. You can't control his actions, you can only control yours. It sucks that he isn't being more supportive, but that said, he's not having surgery, you are.

The world isn't going to stop eating crap because you can't. food commercials are still going to be crazy. Restaurants are still going to serve unhealthy stuff in huge portions. Everywhere you look there are going to be people eating, shopping for junk food, etc.

You do you and ignore him.

  11. @@Elen

If you read what I wrote, you would recognize that I don't care if you were talking about ME or not. Many people took the time to answer your question and you belittled them for it (unfairly, in my opinion). Their regrets were genuine and didn't at all take away from the "reality" of the question.

It's ludicrous to think that every answer on a public message board is going to be crafted to fit your specific desires.

    Good luck with your surgery!

  12. I appreciate those of you who took the time to answer this question as it was intended. In other words, you either replied yes, that you regretted it or no, and not the "only that I didn't do it sooner," which is irrelevant to what I was asking and just sounds so preachy. I understand that this is likely not your intent (or maybe it is in some cases, what do I know), but just for what it's worth, when you answer a question that wasn't actually asked it comes across as a bit patronizing, condescending and, frankly, even rude.

I love it when people ask questions on a public forum and then get irritable about how well intentioned people choose to answer it.

I don't think I answered, but if I did, it would have been a "I wish I'd done it sooner" response. That's not at all "patronizing, condenscending or rude" -- it's simply MY truth.

Next time you pose a question, set clear parameters up front on how you'd like it answered.

And then ... good luck with that objective. ;)

  13. In most ways, I'm a lot like @@LipstickLady - I'm blunt and direct, and I don't pussyfoot around.

I'm also logical and dispassionate (which serves me excellently in my avocation). This frequently puts me at odds with drama queens who are ruled by their feelings and little else. Oh well, tough titty.

And I don't believe in personal attacks... until you attack me. Then it's gloves off, *choose your expletive*.

"When all is said and done, usually more has been said than done. "

Yup. But I still do it without the name calling and expletives because I am a lady. :D

  14. @

Just going to throw this out there...

First, I have no idea the scenerio or the players that you are referring to, so I am definitely not taking your words personally.

I will tell you that I, personally, am the exact same in person as I am behind my computer. I don't curse at people, I don't call names, but I am fairly blunt and opinionated. I am not a warm and fuzzy person by nature so while my intent may be genuinely caring, some people take me as too direct or harsh.

Please remember that you cannot read tone on the internet. What you want to interpret as an "attack" may well have been meant as constructive criticism. What you take as nice, might be what others take as pandering. I can honestly say that what you've communicated as your desires above on these boards would deter me.

I don't always want encouragement, especially if I make a bad choice. I don't want or need "in the nicest way" because at times, I really need a kick in the pants. I prefer someone tell me how it is rather than patronize to my feelz.

I rarely consider people "mean" because a stranger's words on the internet do not affect me personally. The only time they seriously p!ss me off is when they start in with name calling and personal attacks towards others. I seriously don't even care if they are calling ME names. I find that humorous and very telling of their character.

We are all very different in the way we communicate AND in the way we interpret. I rarely block and I rarely report. I appreciate disagreements, banter and debate. It's how **I** learn and grow.

Once it gets PERSONAL, the problem starts and the blocking begins.

  15. There is an ignore button, as has already been mentioned. It is not like blocking people on Facebook, where they virtually cease to exist. You will still see that someone you have ignored has posted, and then that itch of curiosity starts in. What did they write? Did they mention my name? I have to know! So you end up reading it anyway.

Of course, by now you may have found the ignore button, and aren't seeing any of this. ;-)

Yes, I do wish it worked like FB where you can't see them and more importantly, they can't see you. I think that would stop a LOT of issues.

That said, I don't click on the names of people I ignore 99% of the time. What would be the point?

  16. I am new to the the forum. I am so scared that I will miss things I love so much. Stuff I believe keeping me fat. I don't want to give up an occasional glass of wine. A nice sandwich from time to time. Or even a slice of pizza. This is my dilemma. I am clearef for surgery on the 23 rd of January. I want this so bad but I don't want to let go stuff I enjoy sometime. Iam 5'3". I weight 216 lbs. Tried every diet in the book. Nothing worked for me so is there anyone that could shed some light on how I am feeling

Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App

I'm three and a half years out and I have a glass of wine or two pretty regularly. I can't eat a whole sandwich, but I can usually eat most of a half if I take the top bread off, and I have a leftover half for the next day. As for pizza? I can eat a slice of thin crust, but I usually choose just to eat the toppings. and a bite of crust.

I can do all of the above while wearing my size 8 skinny jeans, or a tankini at the pool without feeling self conscious. I can wear heels all day without killing my feet. I can shop at any store now and I can buy clothes off the rack without trying them on.

So no, I've lost nothing but gobs of fat. The ginormous quantities of food? I don't miss that at all.
