  1. I'm 3 months out and absolutely religious about measuring/weighing everything I eat (unless the rare occasion we go out to eat, then I let my sleeve be my guide---gone out to eat twice since surgery). The problem I'm having, if I measure out 2 ounces of chicken or fish, I cannot eat it during the 1/2 hour recommended time. I may be able to eat it in an hour, but then my stomach hurts................The other choice is to graze with my measured food, which my NUT said we don't want......her recomendation was 2 ounces of Protein, and an ounce each of veggie and healthy carb or fruit, and I struggle just getting in the protein. So I'm wondering, at 3 months out, is my expectation of eating 2 ounces at meal time too much? I don't eat anything else with the 2 ounces of fish/chicken (which is always moist).....and follow the no liquids rule. That being said, I can do better with: no cal drinks, protein shakes/drinks as long as they are not thick, yogurt, cottage cheese, chili....any thoughts, suggestions, input? Many, many thanks!
  2. Recovery was very easy......a little soreness where they cut off that part of the stomach......not even enough discomfort to warrent pain meds. But, I may have a higher pain tolerance than some........Good luck

    2 days post op

Whenever I had something to drink that early out, I had horrific pain when I swallowed even just a teeny tiny trickle...........my stomach was spasming.........I was told to warm up my liquids.......and it made a difference......the spasms would happen even with room tempearture liquids. I warmed up everything, even my crystal light...ask your doctor's office about the pain you're expereincing be patient with your body.......your tummy is swollen and pissed off as hell That being said, a week makes a huge difference.....Wishing you the best and an easy recovery.....welcome to the losers' bench!
  4. relationships will change, I think they have to......my relationship with hubby is better than ever, we are more active.......with regards to friends, they are happy for me........I'm am not as sedentary as I used to be, and really have to ask myself before going somewhere "is it more important than working out at the gym?" Thankfully my closest friend joins me at the gym, and I appreciate that time we have. if it doesn't fit around my priorities, and I can't move my gym time around......then it doesn't fit in my schedule........gotta put yourself first, right?
  5. Wishing all our preops the best of luck! There's a huge list of suggested items to bring to the hospital......I packed very light.....had my phone & toiletries, which I used, had a book which I didn't read--was too busy walking LOL I used two hospital johnies....one worn normally and one as a robe....left my pj's and robe home. One thing to consider is the clothing you'll wear after being discharged......make sure it is loose--my waist was bigger after surgery than when I went in....the other thing is shoes you can slip in and out of (I brought berkinstocks because they had good support) Good luck!
  6. So sorry to hear this! Sounds like you've been through enough already. I am one of two sleeved patients at my support group.....and every single person who has had the bypass at this meeting does not regret it......they are so positive about the bypass that they don't understand why I chose the sleeve.....sending warm thoughts your way and hoping for the best.
  7. Me too! I saw the first video.....luv "yuck in a cup" LOL
  8. I really like that, but then do you have any idea how much protein you are getting, or don't you worry about it.....and how far out are you? Thanks for letting me pick your brain, appreciate it!!!
  9. Oh my gosh, I have totally taken over my boss's oscillating heater......we didn't have heat at the office for a few days....so he let me borrow it.....he's never getting it back......I should be ashamed LOL
  10. I don't know the reasoning behind it, but my NUT stressed to only eat within 30 minutes.......
  11. Thanks.......I'm worried if I do that I won't get enough Protein in.....

    Sleeve or bypass

Have you met with the doctor one on one yet? That's when we looked at my particular situation and came up with the decision together. I don't know if the dumping syndrom is permanent.....I travelled with a bypass patient, and at 5 years out, she clearly did not have that......but she did experience it early after surgery. I understand the calorie absorption of the bypass is not permanent, but the malabsorption is....if you are anemic or have any other nutritional concern, bypass may not be the best choice. As you said, they both have their merits......good luck whatever you decide.....I know people who have the bypass and someone who had the sleeve, and they all had 200+ pounds to lose and everyone did it very successfully and are maintaining.
  13. I thought it's because we lost our insulation......I always noticed my thinner friends/family were cold while I was always hot... Last night I went to bed with socks on, a sweatshirt, and grabbed an extra blanket......brrrrr...... Hubby likes the house warm, really warm in the wintertime......he's always cold..........I think he's looking forward to this year when we both will want a warm home.....
  14. I think it took approx. 7 business days.......good luck
  15. You are way too funny, thank you for this post.
  16. Having 80% of your stomach removed helps a whole lot.....those first few months not feeling hunger is an added bonus (for me anyway)........but the big thing is the "head work" mentioned. If you haven't already, start attending support groups.....they can help...............good luck!
  17. I'm sticking with the greek yogurt (per my NUT's instructions)
  18. Google this: BSN Syntha 6 It's a type of Protein powder (I hadn't heard of it either.....I saw an add for it after googling it--the formula isn't supposed to have that whey flavor)
  19. Has anyone tried this? Have you doctored it up, and if so, how? I made some up this morning and thought it was pretty good.......after I sampled it, I threw in some PB2 to jack up the flavor, and I just have to say Yum!

    I want to zumba

I love zumba......but my old knees can't take it anymore........KrissyJo, what are your doctor's guidelines for exercising?
  21. I'm just a few shy weeks away from 50......my weight loss has been slower than some.......BUT could I have lost 35 pounds in 11 weeks on my own? no.........I struggled losing 3 pounds in a month pre surgery......so I am a happy camper
  22. We were talking one minute, the next minute I was waking up.....a little sleepy, blurry eyed, but felt well rested and started walking in recovery as soon as I could. I've had surgeries where I get really angry when they are waking me up---things have changed over the years LOL I felt like I had the best sleep of my life........for me the surgery was easy peasy.....
  23. It all depends upon the Protein drink......I had a problem with unjury strawberry, and while on the phone with those folks, they said their shakes can be made up a day in advance and put in the fridge (they aren't typically thick shakes anyway) I would imagine the Syntrax nectars can be made up a day ahead (lemonade, iced tea, and the like).

    I GOT MY DATE ????

absolutely, all normal emotions................woo hoo..............congrats! Best wishes on this journey!
  25. Fortunately I kept some of my old clothes, so I'm set for 4 sizes........but church tag sales, good will, thrift stores are great places to shop......I've gotten things like Chico's clothing, brand new, with the price tags still on them for a few dollars....can't beat it. There are also things to make your dollar go farther.....for example, this website shows how 13 pieces of clothing can give you 31 looks........http://moneysavingmom.com/2011/09/13-different-clothing-pieces-turned-into-31-different-outfits.html I used to know how 9 pieces of clothing gave you 27.......can't remember the details, but very similar to what they show in that link. I tend to wear tops a little longer......as I lose weight, I tighten my belt and then if desperate take in my pants at the waist.......and it may not look the best, but my tops and suit jackets cover my newbie sewing attempts and no one is the wiser, so I can wear the pants for 2 sizes.......
