  1. I lost about 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks. Trying not to get on the scale is hard. I was low BMI and have already lost 10% of my body weight! Very proud of myself.
  2. I'm in week 3 post op, sleeved 28/5 and supposed to be on full liquids but have had egg and potatoes well chewed up this week. Really needed to chew something! Haven't had any issues except I felt nauseous when I had soup and ate too much.
  3. I did 2 weeks of protein shakes and salad pre op. not going to lie, it was hard. I had to add some carbs because I felt so ill but you get through it.
  4. @ harlemzheiress. You'll do fine, I'm sure. Nerves are normal but most people have a relatively uneventful recovery. Follow Drs orders and listen to your body and all will be fine. Good luck!!!
  5. I'm from airdrie and was sleeved 28th May in Tijuana by Dr Valenzuela. I feel great!! Lost 19lbs since day of surgery and haven't had any issues. Not sure whether my family Dr will treat me if I do have any as he wasn't on board when I mentioned that I was thinking of having this done. I'm so pleased that I did though!!!!
  6. My surgery was may 28th and ended up taking 4 hours because of adhesions from previous surgeries. Felt crappy afterwards but by next morning I felt amazing. Very little pain, no gas, no nausea. Started full fluids 6 days after surgery. Went out to dinner last night, I only had soup and creme caramel and didn't finish either but enjoyed both and felt a little bloated. I had a hankering for scrambled egg today so had one and it filled me up. Feeling kinda guilty about how easy it's been and have even thought that maybe they didn't do anything!! I'm losing weight steadily, down 19lbs from surgery day. The biggest issue I've had is that the tape is pulling the skin off my abdomen. So glad I did this and can't wait to be a skinny b***h again!!!

    bruises anyone?

I'm black and blue even on the side of my boob. I've had laparoscopic surgery before and remember that I was badly bruised then too. It's perfectly normal. Your body has suffered massive trauma and this is just its way of showing it. It'll soon clear up.

    sipping vs gulping

I was sleeved may 28th. I keep forgetting that I'm supposed to sip, especially a lovely cup of tea, and take a couple of decent swallows. Other than a little gas pain tonight I've had no ill effects.
  9. I was sleeved on the 28th in Tijuana. My 1 1/2 hour op turned into close to 4 hours. I had adhesions from a previous surgery and it took them hours to release them all. Felt pretty crappy Tuesday night but since then I've felt great!!! No issues with drinking anything. That first cup of tea yesterday was like the nectar of the gods. I had to be careful not to chug it. Lol. Drinking lots of Gatorade, sipping every few minutes. Walked 45 minutes to Walmart, uphill. I've had it easy I think. Poor hubby at home in Canada, on the other hand, says he aged 20 years while I was having my op. can't wait to get home tomorrow. ????
  10. Lol. I feel pretty awful but can still type fairly well.
  11. That's supposed to say ketosis not keypad. Bloody autocorrect! Lol.
  12. I'm going to Tijuana. Mi Doctor with Dr Valenzuela. I'm on clears too. Diabetic and felt so sick earlier that I had some apple sauce. Head is pounding, can't stop crying because my blood sugar is way too low. Other doctors recommend 200g of carbs per day pre surgery for diabetic patients to avoid hypos and keypads.

Reason for Pre op liquid diet?

No, Susan, I didn't. Family doctor is not on board with the surgery at all. Waiting list for Alberta health care procedure is 5+ years and I could be dead by then! Self pay so going to TJ. Downside is that advice and diet plans are done over phone or by email and seem to be one size fits all. I'm fairly lucky and know my diabetes really well, so can tell when glucose is low. Dreading clear, no cal liquids next week. Not sure how I'm going to function without carbs!!

shakes are awful surgery may 28

I'm dreading next Saturday!!! Have to start clear, no cal liquids and I'm diabetic. First day of protein shakes made me ill because I wasn't getting enough carbs. Can't imagine how I will function with none at all for 3 days!!! ????

shakes are awful surgery may 28

It's around 16-20 depending on the amount of oatmeal and flax. I've been using 1/4 cup oatmeal, 1/8 cup flaxseed meal, cup of skim milk, handful of strawbs and same of raspberries. Thinned it out with Water.
  17. Same place but May 28th. Good luck!!!

shakes are awful surgery may 28

I can't handle the protein powder. Tastes gross, as do all the prepared ones that I've tried, so I've been making my own with powdered oatmeal, ground flaxseed, berries and skim milk. Tastes pretty good. I just ground up the oats in the food processor, flaxseed I bought ready to use. Soaked both in milk for 15minutes then added frozen berries to the blender and whizzed it up.

Reason for Pre op liquid diet?

I started mine on 14th-surgery on 28th. I'm allowed 2 shakes and a protein and salad for dinner. I'm diabetic and immediately felt ill, glucose was low, shaking and headache. I had to add a little carbs in because I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise. 1 small slice of dry, whole grain bread made all the difference. Praying that it doesn't affect my surgery!!
  22. My date is may 28th too. Dr Valensuela at Mi Doctor TJ. Having a few issues with the pre surgery diet. I'm diabetic and have been feeling ill and shaky. Had to add a little carbohydrate to bring my blood glucose up to a reasonable level. Excited to get sleeved though!!!
  23. I'm having my vsg with dr Valenzuela on May 28th. Excited and nervous too. A bit apprehensive about how my lifestyle is going to have to change. Anybody else going to Dr Valenzuela around that time?? I'm going alone so would love to have a buddy!!
