  1. So I don't know if this will help you or not but what works for me is to judge myself by my actions, not by my outcomes. Before you "feel like a failure", ask yourself if you did everything you could and should have done.

Did you eat Protein? did you drink your fluids? did you eat junk? If you answered yes to the first two and no to the last, then you did your job. Your body needs time to do it's job. Don't obsess about what you can't control.

And the fact is, we can control our actions, but I have had to accept that I do not control my weight. Some complex mechanism seems to be in charge, and it is not me.

Don't judge yourself based on stuff you don't control.

I will also say that there is some research out there to suggest that we stall for a while once we lose 10% of our body weight, and based on your ticker, that's how much you seem to have lost. Rest assured it will come off, just at it's own pace, not yours. Unfortunately :(

Having said all that, I wish I could just give you a hug because I can totally relate to the frustration and hopelessness you must be feeling. ((hugs))

thanks so much. I have been working the exact program that they gave me in my handbook doing Protein, whatever veggies were allowed, taking my Vitamins etc. i have not had even one crumb of junk food, and if i thought about junk i think of something i read that proudgrammy wrote when she said we still have to control what we put in our mouths. ive been controlling myself so much that people are so proud of me and say they dont know how i do it.

  2. Had my 1 month post op appt yesterday. I only lost 3 lbs. bringing me down to 226. The dr and coordinator were very disappointed. I cried on the exam table. They questioned me as to what ive been eating. i told them i am doing 1 meal a day and 1 sometimes 1 1/2 Protein shakes. I was advised to backtrack and stick with eggs, yogurt, cheese and Soup. They told me not to worry about hitting the Protein goal but concentrate on getting fluids in. The dr said my metabolism may not have caught up yet. and they want to see me back the end of january to check my progress. im so frustrated idk what to do.

I feel like such a failure. I've been stalled since the 2nd week. Ive lost 16lbs post op and 15 on the pre op. Ive read about stalls but really....come on...what the hell is going on here??? am i gonna be the one freakazoid that gives up 85% of their stomach and STILL cant lose weight? i suck...

  3. So I dont hve a date yet, getting close. Doing research still and I hear about the horrible gas pains. So.. I must know, is it gas or do u poop and have relief for a bit? Is it ongoing like u wanna die? Or is it like spasms and contractions? I heard 1 girl say she used a firm smll pillow to rest her incisions on. Wondering if that would while u tried to use the bathroom..

Please, any feedback is much appreciated thank u

your talking to the queen of gas pain after surgery here lol. its ironic b/c i am not a gassy person regularly at all. i rarely burp or fart. i had them 2 weeks straight from the minute i woke up. morphine gave me 2 to 3 hrs of relief and i was given tylenol with codeine to go home with for pain. they were horrible and radiated up to my left shoulder and they brought me to tears quite a few times. No amount of walking of gas x strips took them away. and honestly i was kinda afraid to poop or fart for the first week and a half at least lol. although my experience was bad with them some people to have them at all. hope you are one of the lucky ones

  4. I know it might sound silly to have second thoughts but did anyone have second thoughts after starting the process. My husband is not all together on board telling me to try the natural way. I am just hoping notn goes wrong for him to say I told u so. Remember I can't get my stomach back but on the other hand heart disease is in my family diabetes cancer HBP u name it, my family has it. But who wants to be overweight? I just want to be healthy, I want to see my 3 yr old grow up, my eldest is almost 18.

its not silly to have second thoughts. most of us if not all of us have these thoughts. i second guessed til i was up on the operating table. it was difficult as well thinking about my children being without a mother ( they are 5 and 2) You have to really sit and think have i done everything i possibly could to lose the wieght on my own and do the beneifts outweigh the risks? for me the answer was yes to both. ive been overweight my entore life and tried countless diets. my weight was just continuin to go up and i was getting to the point where walking was becoming painful. best decision i ever made so far even though im still early out i am feeling confident i can finally achieve my goal

  5. quick question ladies. at 31 years old i have always had normal periods since i was 14. i had my period nov 1 and then like clockowrk after my surgery (11-12-13) i had it again on dec 1st but on sat and yesterday ive noticed some spotting, nothing coming down just a little there when i wipe? i wouldnt be expecting it again til the week of jan 1st....

anyone experience this so early out from surgery? could it just be my hormones adjusting?

  6. i noticed this a few days ago and im not sure what it is. From one of the incisions that is on the upper right side, theres something poking out....it looks and feels like a clear nylon string or a piece of plastic? . i havent called the doctor about it yet, i do have an appt next thurs for my 1 month follow up.

it doesnt hurt or bother me. its just kind of annoying and i have an odd urge to pull it or clip it but im afraid i might screw something up. Any ideas what it could be or anyone ever have this?

  7. I feel like the only person who is weighing monthly, is that super weird of me? My first weigh in is this Thursday, the 12th and I'm not looking forward to it at all!

I don't think it's super weird if it's working for you. I'm a data collector by nature (my profession, too) - thus the need for the data on my weight. LOL!

I think you'll be surprised! Let us know how is goes!!!!

    mcbutterpants,

how are you doing? i havent weighed myself since we spoke im going to wait for my checkup on the 19th, but i have been feeling pretty good since ive kept the scale off my mind. i worked out for the first time last night. i did some kickboxing power workout, but just modified whatever i felt was too much twisting etc since i havent been cleared for excercise yet. and for once i worked out and im not sore today! i once worked out by doing squats and couldnt even sit on the toilet for 2 weeks lmao!

  8. Hopeliveshere I am from Baltimore and I will be having it done at GBMC by Dr. Liao on feb 4th. I'll be 21 on January 31st so I'm guessing any drinks are out ? I have 1 last class to take on January 20th where I can ask any last minute questions but I am so anxious to know in advance, so thanks for all of the help and advice

oh yes drinks would def be out then also i was advised not to take anything containing ibubrofen. If you want you could PM me anytime and will do my best to help. theres a learning curve to this journey and so many wonderful people have helped me on this site i would love to do the same for someone.

  9. has your surgeon given you a handbook yet? and have you seen the nut? every surgeon is different but they usually give you a general guideline for post op eating. immediatley after you will be on Clear liquids. i was not allowed anything but Water, Jello and broth until i had my 1 week post op checkup, after that i was told i could move on to full liquids, which then you can start incorprating the Protein shakes i believe. then your diet will continue to progress.

where are you from? where are you having your surgery done? :) ttys

  10. I am 13 days post op and I feel like I've already been stalled for a week. I have heard of the 3 week stall, but one week, really? I am at the puréed stage and I eat 3 meals per day (1 egg w/cheese for breakfast, 3 oz chicken salad for lunch, 3 oz puréed chili w/ cheese wedge) plus one Protein shake amounting to 600-700 calories and 70-80 grams of Protein per day. I haven't started exercising yet but plan to start walking next week. I have lost 8 pounds since day of surgery. Is it too soon to panic? Please help? Does this seem like too much food too soon? Thoughts?

Also, this may be TMI, but my monthly visitor is here this week. Could that be the issue?

i was posting this about a week and a half ago. i stalled after the first week and it was that time of the month as well. but even after that was over i still didnt lose any. i was eating 3 meals a day but not hitting the protein marks. ill get my official weight on the 19th...if cut myself down by having a Protein Shake for breakfast and lunch and then 1 meal. im hoping that will break the stall.

in addition i did also read the article on butterthebeans signature about stalls so early out and it sometimes takes your body time to catch up to what we have done. good luck

  11. Yes, you will be sipping fluids slowly! this is the best way to prevent dehydration throughout the day. My surgeon advised me to take 2 large sips every 15 mins. gulping your fluids can cause extreme discomfort. now that im a bit further out i fill up a 20 oz bottle and take that to work and sip throughout the day, at least i know im getting in 20 oz of my 64 oz for the day. if i gulp the liquids, then it feels like its stuck in my throat.

  12. today i am 4 weeks out. i started feeling better by day 5, but had lingering gas pains for 2 weeks. i had soreness/discomfort for the first 3 weeks i would say. but everyone is different. each day will get better and better.

  13. CindyGirl & Hopeliveshere

Thank you for the feedback yesterday was a set back I think I didn't rest enough had my husband not come to my rescue I would have passed out in the shower I feel like I’m not full I'm drinking Water through out the day having chicken broth but I still feel like something is missing it could be the lack of Protein but everything I find is horrible. Any good suggestions on Protein?

that whole first week i wasnt hungry at all. you def need to make sure you are drinking enough fluids. honestly i cant stand the taste of plain Water unless its poland spring which i dont always have $ for, so i had switched to crystal light a few days out. i think by day 4 i was only getting in 1 oz of Jello and my fluids a day. i didnt even start back with the Protein shakes until i was like 2 and half weeks out.

the ready to drink shakes are much better than the powders but a bit more pricey. muscle milk isnt bad i like the chocolate and the premeir Protein Shakes (frosty choclate) taste very good IMO esp when they are ice cold. which ones have you tried so far?

  14. Thanks Proudgrammy and Patty. It hurts my heart to see my 70 year old mother get around better than I can, I just want to be able to keep up and give back that handicap placard.

    sandee,

i had so much joint pain as well. my whole body was literally just sore all the time. my hips would hurt even sitting in a chair. i had nearly 260lbs on a 5'3 frame so i can relate. i had a hard time getting up out of chairs and bed. i also had alot of pain in my left food, everytime i would get to a standing position the first few steps would be excruciating.

It WILL get better. with the 28lbs that i lost since my sleeve, my foot pain is already gone! it really makes a difference!

  15. i had gas pains for about 2 weeks. i did everything you could think of to get rid of them gas x, 3 hour at a time walks, even having my boyfriend try to burp me like a baby. the gas pains with this surgery were even worse than my c sections. keep walking and sipping it will pass it just takes time.

too bad the docs cant squeeze us out after the surgery!
