  1. I know it won't be all that bad. The worst part will be the bowel prep solution tomorrow night. The other thing that sucks for me is that I just started my pre-op liquid diet yesterday, so unfortunately I can't really "eat" after the procedure. I was supposed to have this done on 6/27, but the hospital called me a couple of weeks prior and had to reschedule.

good luck to you on thursday and let me know how it goes. maybe you could ease my fears a bit. Yeah i def think its more embarassement then worry about the procedure itself. I remember my stepdad had this done a long time ago and i was cracking up all night watching him drink the solution and get up to use the bathroom literally every two mins. Wont be so funny when its my turn!

  2. I had planned on putting off my gastro visit until the end of the process since i am s**t scared of having the EGD. But over the 4th of july weekend i figured i may as well just make the appt to meet the doc. Turns out he was very nice and thorough and gentle. He explained lots of things and the egd procedure to me. The nurse was a little rough with taking my bp. the cuff actually left me bruised. blood pressure was on the low side as usual only 100/60. Some of this post will have TMI but hey if i cant share here where can i share lol

Dr says: we will get the other appts scheduled for you, but first i need to give you a rectal exam

Me: (as my face drops) Now?

Dr: yes i need to make sure there is no blood present in the rectum

Me: cant you just take my word for it?

Dr: dont worry ive seen that face many times, itll only be a second

    Me: oh lord

So after that embarassing few seconds turns out some blood did show up and now i may need a colonoscopy as well. what could cause this? im 90% sure i dont have ulcers. I have my abdominal u/s friday and the egd is scheduled for 7-26. He said as long as the egd looks ok we may not have to do the colonsocopy. so i am keeping my fingers crossed for that.

  3. I am on the 6 month diet also with my pcp. My last wiegh in should be sept 21st. So prob no surgery until oct =( Plus i have to attend two weight loss support groups for my insurance. I started the process april 18th ditto on the six months being helpful. yes im anxious to have this done but it is giving me time to work with my portions.

  4. I hate this waiting as well. My last 6 mth appt is in September. I wish they didn't make jump through hoops like this. Doctor states surgery should be October. Cannot wait. I'm jealous of people posting july surgery dates

My last 6 month appt is in sept too! it feels like its taking forever. everytime i see ppl posting there surgery dates i get so anxious. i cant wait until its me posting that. i just want it to be done already.

  5. I just had my 3rd weigh in of 6 on saturday i lost 1 lb. In my 1st to 2nd weigh in i had gained 3. So in total i am up 2 from when i originally met with the surgeon. I have been trying though and been keeping a food diary. I get frustrated but hey, that why i am going for wls to begin with. Despite my diet efforts its still hard for me to lose weight. Its hard to lose when you feel hungry all the time. I am looking forward to getting that full feeling of a few bites of food.

  6. So I went to go see the shrink yesterday. So not what i expected. I thought i was going to have the big lost of questions to answer as so many of you have. He literally asked me like 20 questions. Most of them were about my family history and he described some symptoms of depression and anxiety. He said i do exhibit anxiety sypmtoms (im not surprised since my mother suffers from this) but i am ok for the surgery. He didnt even ask me that many questions about the surgery which i was surprised at. So after about 40mins he sent me on my merry way and said he would fax the report... To tell the truth the shrink looked like he needed a shrink himself lol. ]

At least its one more checkmark on my lists of testing! next up is weigh in #3 of 6 with my PCP on saturday!

  7. 6 days post op today. Yesterday, I went to the mall - to the food court, looking for won ton Soup, which i could have on my Clear Liquids. Nobody had any, but I was SO JONESING for a hot pretzel, I was dying. Here is what stopped me- 1) the fear of physical damage to my baby sleeve. 2) the overwhelming feeling that I have worked too hard to get to this point. I didn't walk away empty handed, though - I treated myself to a nice cup of jasmine tea, which is a treat for me. Now, I realize that a hot pretzel is nothing like jasmine tea, but I think because I identify the tea as a treat as well (truly, I love it), I didn't feel like I was giving up *as much* in making that choice.

Do you have any go-to or "treat" foods that will HELP your weight loss? If not, find some that you can swap in when needed.

Also, the other poster's suggestion to carry stuff with you is spot on. I found that really amping up my Protein during preop allowed me to feel satisfied all day. Also, the longer I was able to stay away from carbs, the less I wanted them.

Good luck to you. I know it's not easy.

thanks for that advice. I am going to try tp up the Protein even more. I def think carrying stuff with me will help as well b/c most of the daytime i am on the go btwn work and the kids. I do want to find a "go to " treat too. I'll make it a swapportunity! (ive always wanted to use that word in a sentence lol)

  8. I have weigh in #3 of 6 with my pcp in 11 days. Last time i gained 3 pounds. Im trying sooo hard to lose something by the time i go back. She gave me suggestions of greek yogurt or eggs for Breakfast and for lunch and dinner grilled Protein and veggies. Ive been following this for nearly a week already but i feel like i am at war with myself trying to fight the hunger in my head.

Take for instance yesterday I had 20 dollars. As i took my 35 min bus ride home all i could think of was yes lets get off the bus and get a few slices of pizza. no one is going to know. I was literally i need of that "high" that food gives me. I kept going back and forth in my head. I ended up winning this battle by getting off the bus a stop earlier and getting a Protein shake. I knew if i got off at the other stop id head right into the pizzeria. By the time i was half done with the shake i was satisfied.

So how do i keep fighting this hunger. Is head hunger less intense post op or about the same?

    4. Not have to hide under the covers while being intimate

    5. Not get insane heat rash between my legs from my thighs rubbing together TMI sorry

    6. Shop at a regular sized clothing store

    7. Wear a bathing suit. My swimming attire is currently a t shirt and calf length capris

    8. not have to unbutton my pants after eating cus i cant breathe

    9. love the way i see and how i feel about myself.

    10. Not have the urge to pee all the time.

  10. When I sit on the floor with my very young ( 2 & 11mo)I think about how much it hurts my hips and back. I want to be able to be healthy for them, I want them to have a mom who can keep up.

i can totally relate to this i have a 5yr old and 2 yr old that always want me to play with them. Unfortuantely i have to sit on the couch and play as the floor is too painful. itll take me forever to get back up.

  11. I bought my dry brush at Target for under $10. It comes with a long handle but its removable. I just use the actual brush cause it has a strap that you slip your hand into. You CAN use the long handle I suppose but I brush better without it. You want to make sure to brush everything towards the heart. Except for your tummy region, that gets brushed in a clockwise motion. If you check Pinterest, there are plenty of articles about it.

yayyy plus ill get my discount since i work there lol! gonna check it out today!

  12. Ive been dry brushing (you can google it) for the past 6 months and its supposed to improve blood circulation, regenerate skin cells, etc. There are lots of great benefits to it but one of the benefits is its totally reduced the appearance of cellulite on me. I had pretty bad (cottage cheese looking) cellulite on the backs of my thighs and its hardly noticable now. It really works. Its cheap to do so why not give it a try?

thanks so much. i did read a little about this before. i will def give this one a try

  13. Hello and welcome. If you are interested in the sleeve you might want to check with your insurance company first. Just a suggestion b/c Some insurance companies (mine included) require that you have 6 months of weigh ins with your PCP. If your insurance company is like that, and you wait the 6 months before starting, then you probably wont be looking at surgery for about a year.

    Good Luck!

  14. honestly i would just tell people to mind their own business or to "eff" off. My bff at first was unsupportive and i told her she can either get on board or i wont discuss anything about it with her. Its my decision. For me, this is not what god gave me....I made myself this way with no exercise and disgusting eating habits. My body is a temple and i am trying to find the way to take care of it properly. Personally i dont care if ppl at my job know or not. Im not much of a social person at work....i have a close circle of friends here and thats about it. As long as i get a paycheck every two weeks im happy.

  15. Hello and welcome! i am way at the beginning of the process as well so would be happy to answer questions. what insurance do you have? i agree with the others about checking with your insurance first. The other things you have to do will depend on your surgeon. I went to to the seminar first and then had a cosultation with the surgeon. They gave me a list of all the things i need to complete before i go back to them for my second consult in 3 months. My insurance requires 6months documented weight loss attempts with my pcp. my surgeon also requires a nutrtional visit, cardiologist, pulmonologist, gastroenterologist clearance as well as a pshyc evalutaion.

    Good Luck!

  16. weel i had my nutrtionist visit yesterday and it went awesome! she said that i was a highly motivated patient and she thinks i will have great success. That was so good to hear.

Anyway i am going for my full bloodwork today at 3. I know i have to fast but am i allowed to drink any Water? ?? its going to be a swelterting 93 degress here in ny today. thanks

  17. I had my 2nd weigh in with my pcp on saturday. I gained 3 lbs putting me at 254lbs. What the heck is all i have to say. I did a pretty good job writing down everything i ate which she was happy about. I was honest as could be even if i ate something that would be considered cheating. The day i felt most satisfied was the day i had a Tomato basil salad and grilled swordfish. She said it was because for once i had a well balanced meal.

She said that i am eating too much processed food and gave me a list of a few things i should be eating daily. I have my 1st appt with the nutritionist tomorrow.

This 6 month wait feels like its dragging on forever. I have to go for my bloodwork on friday and i did manage to set up an appt with the cardiologist for june. Hoping to set up the psyhc or pulmonologist for june too along with weigh in #3 with PCP

Back to the drawing board for now i suppose.
