I am from NY and i also had to do the 6 month requirement. I was up and down during it but at the end of it i was still up like 3 lbs from where i had originally started. I have done just about every fad diet and taken every diet pill you could think of. I had a little success back in 2009 with the alli pill. i lost about 40lbs but it came back over a period of 6 months. The first half of the 6 months went really slow for me but then at the end i actually had trouble squeezing in all my appts. Now i am just waiting for the official date.
Yes this site is great. I never feel asahmed to ask anything b/c i know someone will have experienced the same thing. And trust me there isnt much thats TMI around here.
Keep me posted on your journey!

Hope I am feeling GREAT!! Now don't get me wrong... I still have some "tender" spots, still figuring out how to get all the fluids in, the Protein up and fiddling with different mushy foods. Don't make the same mistake I did before heading into surgery. I for some reason was reading all the posts by people who " went back to work the following day", " walked 3 miles the day after" ..... THAT IS NOT TYPICAL!!!
I have had to remind myself that this IS major surgery. Take care of yourself and do the plan as you have been told and you will be just fine!!! If I can help in anyway PLEASE don't hesitate to ask!!!
Amy
thanks so much. i wish you the best and keep me updated!

Hooray! congrats to you. i def feel the same way as you do. Im scared, nervous, yet want to get on to the next chapter in my life.... Its wierd how when you are doing all the pre-op testing and stuff it doesnt really feel real. But when you get that APPROVED call you're like OMG! As of now my tentative date it 10/28. Good luck to you. I hope you have great success and a speedy recovery!

hello and welcome to the group. tell us about yourself. where are you from, where are you in the process? where are/did you have your surgery done?
You will find so many amazing people on this site sharing their ups and downs. Its like an extended family i have come to see.

wow i cant believe i actually lost 7lbs on this pre op diet so far. I think i finally hit my stride with this. yesterday i had a nice treat that was allowed on my list. a nice juicy Tomato with some pepper. I ate it like an apple LOL.
Even though i am only 7lbs down i am starting to feel different already. That bloaty feeling is gone from my stomach and i can actually feel some loss around my waist ( i always lose weigh there first) this is the most weight i have lost in five years.
Just felt like bragging for a sec! its been a while since i saw the number on the scale below 255. I am 248 as of today!

Thank u!!! And good luck to you!!! Where are u having surgery? I'm having mine done at north shore lij in long island ny!
HI jenny. I have been up and down this entire 6 month ride as well. right now i am just awaiting an official date. Some days i feel confident like this is the greatest thing i am ever going to give myself (besides my 2 daughters). Some days i feel like OMG am i insane?!? What am i about to do? I just keep trying to keep the big picture in my head and pray that everything turns out well. I have to put my trust in my surgeon now. I am having mine done at new york hospital queens in flushing.
My niece had her sleeve done at Lenox Hill in march and she said she kept second guessing herself until the moment she was on the operating table, so what we are feeling is all normal.
Good luck to you!

A beef jerky outlet store? please excuse me while i wipe the drool from my mouth! Im glad my fave snack is safe!

It's my new favorite now. I became interested recently because a lot of post ops eat it. I'm still pre op so I decided to find out what they were so hyped about and fell in love. What I keep hearing is to make sure you chew, chew, chew, chew, chew, chew....I think more RNY folks have problems with it getting stuck. Never heard anything like that from Sleeves.
I been eating since i was about 14 (im 30 now). i first fell in love with it when visiting my cousins in texas, now mostly i eat the jack links brand. YUMMY!

Maybe a strange question but i was just wondering if any post op people have any experience eating beef Jerky? I am still pre-op but this happens to be one of my all time favorite Snacks (plus i know its pretty high in protein). Any problems with it going down or chewing it? is this a good snack option?

That's a personal call. Even if the surgery is delayed, you will still have lost some weight which contributes to a decrease risk of having a fatty liver. So it's worth it to keep on the liquid diet for now.....No harm, no fowl....
thats true i have already lost 6 lbs according to my scale this morning. i wouldnt want to regain anything at this point and plus today i think my body finally got used to it. i feel much better today than i have the past few days.

well i just called the insurance company and the coordinator. The insurance comoany said the surgery was APPROVED! I have a tenative date right now of 10/28. Oddly enough the coordinator said she hasnt heard from the insurance company yet. she said they had to wait for a letter. I feel kind of numb right now!
So i had already started my liquid diet (im 5 days in) if theyre talking not til end of month should i maybe ease up on the liquid diet a little and then become strict again in the 2 weeks before?

Im still sitting here waiting for the coordinator to call and tell me if i am approved by the insurance. It seems like its taking forever and lately it seems as though that everyone is getting approved within like a day or 2. I know i was told within two weeks i should know but it im afraid the longer it takes, the less chance i have that they are going to approve it.

Every doctor is different. Some folks will come in here and tell you 3-4 weeks. Some will tell you after 1 week. Some will tell you after 6 months and I have even seen someone come in a say after a year. You won't get one specific answer here, unfortunately.
i agree. you are going to find many different answers to that question on this site. Probably best to ask your surgeon yourself. My surgeon told me last week if anything is going to happen it will be within the first 30 days after surgery.

congrats on quitting smoking. it is a really huge deal. (i picture that little band singing I just want to Celebrate another day of quitting!) ive never been a smoker myself but i wish my stepfather and mom would quit.
My stepdad had bladder cancer from smoking back in 2006 and had to have his bladder removed (now wears a bag.) you think that would encourage him to quit but no. believe it or not the man still smokes 7 packs of marlboro a day!
Not even joking. i once timed him and he light up a cig every 3 mins.
congrats again! stay strong!

no word on my approval yet either. boo, hiss.

I am also on day 3, but I don't have an all liquid diet until the 8th day. I have two Protein shakes and 1 meal that is suppose to be under 300 calories. I usually drink a flavored Water and have a sugar free popsicle. I've been eating baked chicken and broccoli for my meal. Yes, it is hard!! ) but, I am going to do my best to stick with it. I dread day 8! Hang in there. My surgery is Oct. 14th, when is yours?
You lucky goose, lol i prob would of given a kidney away for a piece of chicken yesterday lol. I dont have the date yet (which i think is sort of puzzling that i had to start without a tentative date even) but i talked to the coordinator a few mins ago she said the insurance def received my stuff and we are just waiting to hear back.
Good luck to you on the 14th!

.I'm on day 4, I feel your pain. You just have to keep telling yourself I'm going to kick this diets a$$!!! You are doing great, keep up the good work!

Well today is day 3 of 14. Seriously this is freaking hard. Im hoping after another 2 days or so my body will adjust.
Ive been a grumpy gus the past few days. everyone at work keeps asking me whats wrong. Yesterday i really lost it and yelled at my kids (i felt so guilty). Idk if i lost any weight yet figured id wait until friday to weigh myself. But i def feel "lighter" on my feet today if that makes sense. ive been drinking 5 shakes today but thats pretty much it. Im allowed a few other things but dont have anything on hand right now. the end/beginning of the month is very rough in my house as im trying to catch up on bills. This liquid diet makes me feel kinda "wierd"....like off.... and i am really tired constantly. i guess when your body is used to taking in so many calories its such a shock to switch. I know the weekend is going to be very hard. I hope I can make it thru to the end of the pre op without giving in.
Good luck to all the liquid dieters right now! and anyone having surgery this week!
