  1. I'm sorry for those of you that are having a tough time. One thing I remember that the psychologist told me is that a person going through this process will have a lot of emotions as I'm sure many of you were told the same thing. It's almost as if you are going through a divorce' date=' you have divorced food. You have broken up with all the comfort food you are used to and now just left with liquids. Just like your mate taking everything and leaving only the clothes on your back. It's going to hurt at first but eventually it gets better. I think what makes it hard is that after being sleeved you can't do anything but sit at home and keep track of your Fluid intake. That's boring and with boredom comes our wanting to eat. The thing that helps me with this process is journaling. I know it sounds super cheesy but I write down exactly how I feel. I was sleeved exactly one week ago. On my 4th day out from surgery I was upset because here I was trying to get in as much liquid as possible when all I really wanted was a bite of real food even if it was a vegetable or fruit. So on that day I have an angry journal entry. After writing my feelings down I did feel better. Did it take away my want for food, no but I recognized why I was angry and sad. It's like talking to someone. It may not solve the actual problem but afterwards you feel better.[/quote']

This is very inspirational.... Thank you for posting it. I am in the middle of my preop diet, scheduled to be sleeved on June 10. Today is a really bad day for me, having eaten no carbs, dairy or fruit all week. You are right. It is like a divorce. All I wanna do is eat a piece of bread! I am fighting my cravings and "head hunger" like crazy!! But instead of binge eating this weekend I plan on "binge watching" a tv series on Netflix! Anything for a distraction! It's good to know that there are others out there going thru the same feelings. We can all do this. Be strong!!!

  2. Charming' date=' I agree with you. I prefer unjury and Suntrax's Nectars. I did try the egg white one and it wasn't bad... in fact I thought it was good compared to a lot of the other brands. I tried about 10 different brands.

The reason why we are told to take Whey Protein isolate is because it can get into your body fast (shakes) and absorbed much quicker than food Proteins alone (whey isolate). With the Egg Protein, it is more for those who have a sensitivity to whey as whey is derived from dairy. Additionally, egg white protein has a better amino acid profile than whey, but whey has a higher concentration of branched chain amino acids than any other protein source. However, when considering the nutrient value between both, whey is more superior. Whey protein has a protein efficiency ratio of 3.9, a biological value of 104, net protein utilization of 92 and a chemical score a bit less than 100. Egg protein has a protein efficiency ratio of 2.2, a biological value of 74, net protein utilization of 61 and a chemical score of 69 (Ivy & Portman, 2004).

All in all the egg white protein is superior than whey concentrate but not whey isolate.

Wow, could I have not gone any more nerdy than this????? Sorry for that science part, LOL. Back to the OP get some samples and try them out before you invest in a huge tub.

  3. Your NUT is giving you very good advice. Whey Protein isolate eliminates all lactose. Since lactose intolerance is much more common this is beneficial. Additionally micro filtered whey (unjury & nectar) are more quickly absorbed.

Thanks OTR- BTW- I have heard that the isolate Protein really helps with shrinking the liver prior to surgery. Have you heard of this as well?

  4. I am in Jax/St. Aug area and had surgery in 12/27- Dr. Uchal. He was/is awesome! No issues at all!

Hello! I am in the Jacksonville area and Dr. Uchal will be doing my surgery in June..... Are you still happy with your decision to have the sleeve, and how are you doing? I am curious to talk to some one else that has been sleeved by him.

  5. I'd recommend getting sample packs from everybody you can. Syntrax offers a one time sample pack for 13 including shipping. 866-333-7403

Then once you find the flavors you like' date=' I order mine on Amazon for 32 for a 2lb tub and it ships amazon prime.[/quote']

Thanks again! I'll give them a try!

  6. Thanks to everyone for you replies! I think journaling is a great idea.... And reminding myself that I do not want to be this weight anymore! Little things like using a seat belt without an extender, going to Disney world and actually getting on a ride with my son, sitting in a booth at a restaurant, so many things that I hate that I can't do. I am really looking forward to the non- food life changes that will happen. The new "normal" is worth fighting for.

  7. Thanks a lot, MrsG!! Congrats on your weight loss and thanks for the kind words of encouragement! I agree with you that staying positive will help. I am working on that now, starting the positive self talk. I am very lucky that I have a wonderful and supportive husband and family, as well as friends. I think the biggest regret I would have at this point is if I DIDN'T have the surgery! And you are right, reading and posting on this site will only be beneficial.

  8. Hi everyone..... I am new to posting on this site, and I am hoping for some encouragement! I am hopefully being sleeved in June (we are shooting for the 10th) and I am both excited and scared to death! I didn't think I could have both emotions at once! Lol

I just feel like losing so much weight (200+ pounds) is so daunting, and I hope I am making the right decision. Has anyone else felt this way?
