  1. Just catching up on everything you've been going through. I am so sorry that you care from the Dr's isn't what you asked for. I personally think you should start talking to a lawyer. That being said, don't start to sue until you are stabilized. If you sue your care could be even more compromised as then the Drs really won't want to help you. Also, make the appt at the Mayo clinic and then continue to call and ask if the've got any cancelations or openings. Just keep advocating for yourself as best you can. If I lived in FL I would definitely come visit you in the hospital. Keeping you in prayer.
  2. Hope you are getting the care you need. Saying more prayers for you. Hang in there and try to have faith that you will get through this. You have been and are still incredibly strong and your life and quality of life is worth fighting for.
  3. Not good news. Keeping you in my prayers. Have you discussed the possibility of converting your sleeve to an RNY Bypass with the surgeon to see if would help? Just an idea cuz thats what the do if you have acid reflux that is extremely bad.
  4. Hi. I doubt most healthcare providers would approve of using both Zantac and Nexium but I too can't handle the idea of converting to the Bypass and undergoing another surgery. I also have mild sleep apnea and have noticed that the apnea and the reflux seem to be inter related. Not sure which one causes which. But if you weren't tested for sleep apnea prior to your surgery you might want to get tested for it or re-tested. The treatment is the CPAP machine, which I also couldn't tolerate but that's just me. Most people seem to adjust to it without an issue. I think there are other home remedies for reflux that you could research on the internet, a type of tea I think. I hope you get some relief soon and no more pneumonia! The antibiotics will totally mess up your digestion too so be sure to take a probiotic once you're done with them.

    This made me sad

This is heartbreaking. Food can be a drug, a very powerful one. I struggle with it everyday. So sad for this man and his family.
  6. Lookin good! Glad you are doing so much better and wifey too!
  7. So sorry you are having such extreme reflux. I have issues with reflux too but not as severe. I had pre-surgery too but it got worse after my sleeve surgery which I knew was a risk. I am an opera singer and the reflux can really harm your vocal chords. Have you seen an ENT? Here's what I currently do. I take a Zantac at night when I go to bed. You can take two if you want which would be the prescription strength. I also take a Nexium in the morning and I add 1tbsp of organic apple cider vinegar (Braggs) to my first glass of water and drink that down. The Zantac is an acid blocker, the Nexium an acid reducer and the apple cider vinegar helps populate your gut with the good bacteria that aid in digestion. You really need to discuss this with your Dr, especially of you are on other meds. Some people end up having to convert their sleeve to an RNY bypass because of their reflux.
  8. Sounds like a good idea. I would probably purchase calcium and multi-vitamins.
  9. I went from 44 GG (as in GoodGolly!) to a 36 or 38 DDD or G depending on cup type/style and bra brand. I still have big girls and I have tried on tons of bras. My advice is to buy one or two bras at most because you will change so rapidly in the first 6-8 months post op. Don't make a big investment until you're done losing your weight. I used to spend a fortune on bras and now I often find them at Marshalls, TJMAXX and Nordstom Rack.
  10. Great news all around! Gonna keep you both in my prayers!
  11. Thanks for the update and good news that you are feeling better and seem to be on the mend. I am so sorry to hear the bad news of your wife's diagnoses. I will continue to hold you both in my prayers. If you are ever able to get any answers from the Dr about why all of this happened to you it would be nice to have that knowledge, Keep on and stay strong!
  12. I can only speak from my own experience. I can definitely eat more now at almost two years post-op. Can I eat as much as I used to? No way! Does this mean that I've stretched my sleeve? I don't know but I guess it's possible since the stomach tissue is very elastic. I am still thrilled with the results of my surgery but at this point it's up to me to maintain my weight loss. I can't eat the same volume that I used to but I can eat too many calories and gain weight.
  13. Glad you are home and are getting some nourishment and hydration. I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
  14. Keeping him in my prayers. Hoping we'll get some good news soon.

    Horrible eating over Christmas

Alas, that loud thud ya'll heard was me falling off the wagon into a pile of holiday cookies and candy. Sigh... Too scared to get on the scale yet.

    No caffeine ever?

I am almost 2 years post-op and I drink a 16oz latte every morning. At first after the surgery I couldn't handle coffee at all. But eventually I started easing myself back into my morning coffee habit, the only modification is I make a latte with skim milk which I heat in the microwave. The milk buffers the acidic coffee and is yummy and comforting. I like to use a sugar-free syrup to flavor it too. Everyone is different in what they can tolerate post-op and that can evolve quite a bit as you go forward. As for sodas and carbonated drinks I can't drink them. It's like my sleeve just rejects it. However I can drink a beer, no problem. I guess the alcohol in the beer relaxes my tummy, along with the rest of me (LOL) but it is quite filling.

    Feeling down...but not in weight

Congrats on losing 100 lbs! Not sure how much more you want to lose but most of us start struggling at approximately 1 year post-op. I have been fighting with the same 8-10 lbs for quite a while now. I'm sure if I had weighed myself today I would have been upset with the number on the scale. The holidays are brutal on weight loss efforts. I am planning to start the 5:2 diet in January.
  20. Saying more prayers for you right now. Asking God to heal you of this terrible affliction and help the Doctors help you to be well again. How is your wife? Is she with you there in the Hospital? If you were my husband I would be going crazy and raising hell trying to get you the help and care you need. Please don't give up. They should be feeding you intravenously since you can't keep anything down. Fight for your life! You are worth the effort. Asking God to send you love and healing.

How to get out of mental weight-loss mode?

Nope. I have the same issue. Been trying to lose weight my entire life. Still trying to get to goal. My advice is to try and enjoy your new self but i've found that I have to stay vigilant about what I eat and drink because it's actually very easy to regain some weight.

    Not much new sexy

Go get a new hairdo and a makeover. Ask a friend who's style you admire to help you find some new clothes. If you're still changing sizes rapidly shop at consignment stores so you don't spend a lot of money. Even Walmart has some cute clothes. Getting the right fit is important. You deserve to feel sexy and happy about your appearance. Your self image is going to change drastically along with your body and you will gain increased self confidence. Self confidence is what makes anyone sexy, IMO.
  23. Saying prayers for you. Hope you are soon out of the woods with all this soon and feeling better. I am so sorry you've been going thru so much hell. I know you are worried about your insurance coverage but I think it's time for your wife and you to start making a fuss and getting the care you need to get well. It isn't supposed to be like this. Keeping you in prayer!

    Will I always be cold?

I've always felt cold because I'm hypothyroid but at almost two years post-op VSG, I get very cold if I'm not moving around. It's not as bad so far this winter here in Southeastern PA as last winter, which was epically nasty for this part of the country. Last winter I froze my nernies off! My hands and feet ached because of the cold. So far I'm not suffering as much as last year. I did invest in some warmer clothes and a down coat.

3 year surgi-versary - updated info from NUT

Awesome job maintaining your loss! Thanks for the update and information. I am planning on giving the 5:2 plan a try after the holidays. Dating is VERY fattening. There's a reason for the saying "Fat and happy"! LOL! It's all the eating and drinking together and contentment! So happy for you that you've found someone new to share your life with.
